- Spray guard to rear wheel drive: T30 Torx key - 8 Nm
- Rear wheel to wheel carrier, T50 Torx key in diagonally opposite sequence - 60 Nm
- Final drive Oil level plug with new copper washer, T40 Torx Key - 20 Nm

Just bought an 2008 R1200 GS Adventure...my girlfriend and I put 200 miles of paved/dirt roads, most amazing bike ever after 50+ years of riding!

So much easier than my 06 where you have to rotate the final drive to drain it and refill through small sensor hole. The only advantage to the older design is that it forces you to inspect and grease the spines. Once drive is tilted, you can loosen the trans boot and pry the shaft off so you can lube botheends.

Hi, I am fortunate to be located near a UK BMW dealer so I buy the washers and other small parts from them directly. Ebay is an alternative or any motorcycle repair shop will have some in stock.

I simply wonder why BMW didn’t make the oil pouring hole on the top of the final gear case on the right side so that you don’t have to remove the wheel.

What Torx is it on the drain plug? I thought the 2008 model had the plug also above pointing to the back, not only below?

Hi Felix, Thanks for the comment. Details of the torx bits and torques setting are listed in the description above. Yes, models before 2008 have the drain plugs at the back (left side). I will post a new video of the 2007 model very shortly.

Hi David, regardless of the service schedule I do mine every year. A litre of oil is only about £10. Same thing for the transmission/gear box and engine oil.
