I would suggest a tip. The tool to open the oil filler plug is under the seat (the grip of the screwdriver is the opening tool)

Hi Alessandro, thanks for watching, I hope it helped also thanks for the tip. I'll give this a try.

The oil capacity is 4 l. I prefer the K&N Oil Filter KN-160 because you don’t need a filter wrench! Thanks.

Hi Peter, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. The capacity given is as per the owners manual. Filters, like tyres are a personal choice, I prefer HiFlo.

@@robchisholm72 you are correct the oil capacity is 4 liters. I adjusted my previous post - don’t want to mislead anyone! Thanks!

I couldn't see exactly what oil you were using, but make sure it has the correct specs for a wet clutch application or friction modifiers can cause clutch issues. Look for Jaso standards.

Hi Fiveo Waf - Thanks for your comment. I use the correct grade oil for the bike as listed in the owners manual. I've been doing this service myself for over 5 years now and having a certain level of mechanical understanding, I'd not recommend anything without making sure it is correct in the first place. However, thanks again for your comment.

@@robchisholm72 I wasn't trying to be difficult, but there's more to oil than just the 5w 40 grade of the oil, as I'm now out of warranty I no longer use the BMW oil for the cost reasons pointed out, I just have not seen that particular oil with the correct certification for wet clutch applications in the USA, perhaps it's different in your country.

Like your's, mines out of warranty and I also don't use the BMW oil for the same reason as you. One of our motorcycle technicians at work had been a certified BMW Mottorad technician & he recommended the fully synthetic Castrol oil that I've been using for years now. As he uses exactly the same on his own GS. Not sure if its available 'State side' though. In the next couple of days, I'll get back to you with the exact details if you'd like?

@@robchisholm72 I'd be interested to know and see if they have the same here in the US. I did notice when I switched to Spectro Platinum full synthetic motorcycle oil this year that the engine was quieter when hot and the gear shift and clutch take up feel nicer than with the BMW oil.

The oil I use is Castrol Edge 5W-40, this doesn't list the JASO standards as I believe they are primarily for the US market. However it does comply with the following; API SN, ACEA C3. Within the European market, we have different regulations and standards for an equivelant product to the Contintal US. However for information, the BMW Advantec ultimate oil also complies to API SN and your JASO MA2. Regards

So you put 3.5L instead of 4L
@robchisholm72

Yes, I prefill the oil filter, then add 3.5L then leave it to settle for 10 mins, check the sight glass and add extra oil as needed in 100ml intervals. Just make sure you don't overfill outside the inner ring on the sight glass.
