On this channel, I'll give general motorcycle related information, from how to complete basic maintenance to kit reviews.

I gained my motorcycle licence in 200, and in 2009 I did my first long distance ride, 1024 miles in 20 hrs 13 minutes, this was for an Iron Butt Challenge subsequently doing more than 6 of these and joining the Iron Butt Association UK for long-distance riders. In the subsequent years I’ve discovered the diversity of the biking community, from joining my local Blood Bike group to being an Isle of Man TT Marshal (the Orange Army) as well as a brief stint as a salesman in a multi franchise dealership. The above has led me to now working for a major manufacturer's events team.

Hi Nigel, glad to have been of help, like many things, yes it's 'easy' when you know what you're doing but before then it can be rather daunting. Once you're happy changing pad's before you know it, you'll be doing an oil change (see one of my other video's) and other 'basic' maintenance. Owning a set of tools is always useful and is like Pringles "Once you pop.... you can't stop".

Hi and thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a question. I used different makes of brake pads, at 1:50 is with OEM BMW pads. While at 10:10 I've used Brembo pads. The spring plate would not fit as at 1:50 with the Brembo pads but did fit securely as at 10:10. So in one way, they are both right.

Thanks for a helpful video, Not sure about copper grease on the caliper bolts, I'm sure they'll be fine if you torque up to the 24 Nm spec, but generally the advise seems to be to thread lock these bolts for safety when re-fitting. I guess it's a double precaution because of the criticality of the caliper bolts not loosening.
@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 4 месяца назад
Absolutely, it's 'belt and braces'. Copper grease withstands higher temperatures and also aids removing the bolts next time, but you are correct, torque to correct setting every time.

I like this brand, seems like good quality. Is it only for winter use? Can your foot breathe? Can you use it at sommer tem. 20⁰-28⁰ ? Or what do you recommend for warm weather?
@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 4 месяца назад
Hello and thanks for watching and commenting. This is a premium brand of motorcycle boot. Given the boots have a Gore-Tex liner, they are breathable. I've used them in all seasons and when paired with the Daytona Trans Tex socks, this increases the breathability for the warmer months. These are a great 'Touring' boot which will work in all but the hottests days, 28c +. However, if you're looking for a boot for all but the cold Winter months, can I suggest looking at the Daytona Spirit Pro Perforated Gore-Tex boot. Personally, the choice of boot ultimately depends on the type of riding you do, all year commuting, Summer touring or a track focused boot. I prefer a touring boot as this tends to cope better with most weather conditions. I hope this helps?

I have the Knox MK3. It's so comfortable I don't even know I'm wearing it. It IS the Jacket for Protection! It is Perfect. I have looked everywhere for pants to match. I have found 2: The Bohn Body armor pants with body armor in the tail, bone, hips, thighs, and knees. They have a Summer cut, a Winter cut ( 8.0 oz. Brushed Lycra) with knee pads extending to the shins, and an Adventure cut, same ( 5.14 oz brushed Lycra), with smaller knee pads, no shin pads for your higher off-road boots. Beautiful! The second pair of pants I found were Pando Moto's skin AAA Armored Leggings with hip and knee pads that have a skin of double-layer armored fabric. Perfect! I have an underlayer of protection now.

I came across this tent in my search for a tent with a larger vestibule that still packs down small - we go car camping with our Z3 and it has a tiny booth. I would like to be able to at least sit on camp chairs inside (with two people), and to be able to stand up would be even better! My backpacking tent has two entrances across from each other which I absolutely love, so that this tent has the 'back door' is a huge advantage in my book. On warm nights that cross ventilation makes all the difference. Thanks for your review! Going to measure how the packing size compares to our current tent (and for car camping weight is of course not a big issue). And then consider if it's worth the price :D
@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for watching and also for yor comments. Like you if I'm using a car or motorcycle then weight isn't high on my priorities. However, I, like you, prefer to be able to stand up in the tent. As you may see in the video, I use the vestibule (which can hold a large adventure bike) as my 'day room'. I use it for cooking and also hang laundry/wet clothing in, while I've still got the sleeping area which remains a clean and dry area. I've had my tent for over 10 yrs and its still going strong, yes, it's not cheap but I do believe it's worth the cost. I think if you did buy one, you'll be happy with it.

@robchisholm72 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for your input. You're correct, if the retaining bolt on the top isn't tight enough they won't hold the speed, (I've found an allen key is needed to tighten it sufficiently). This being said, I don't believe they are designed to hold the speed for any length of time, simply to give you time to shake off any cramp in your wrist or hand.

I installed one of these on a 2006 sv650 I used for a daily rider. It worked flawlessly for over a 100,000 miles. Not once did it leave any oil spots in my garage. It takes very little oil to keep the chain wet and definitely cuts down on chain wear. Later I installed one on an fz6 and it worked great for while then quit. For the life of me i couldn't figure what was wrong,its a super simple design. I just took it off and started using aerosol chain lube as i dont commute by bike anymore. If you ride daily and dont have bike with a center stand its worth a shot .

Thank you for your video.👍 Tomorro day and night i will be riding the motorcycle. Almost 32 hours with a few stops. And the next night have to set up this tent. So a bit explanation is always good. So i atleast have an idea how to start setting it up. Sadly to be honest the tent is way to heavy for carrying with the motorcycle. Also a bit to bulky. But once it is standing it gives you a tremendous comfort. Better then any other tent out there. I have the solo tent. And it isby far big enough for one person. What i like is that when raining you can sit in the garage. And also on the side of your bed is enough space to lay some gear. The tent has to be steaked out very good because it is a windcatcher. In Sweden when i came back the whole tent was gone. The open side was faced towards a lake. Probably suddenly some wind catched it. Had only a few steakes in the ground. It did atleast 500 meters. Not one Sweed had tried to catch it. Strange people. 😁 My phone, Exped bed and sleepingbag were still in it. Left a scrape on the screen. Looking at it now.🤤 But i can tell you that it was extremely difficult to try to sort it out while everything was in it like the pole. Had not clue how to start unfolding the tent again. But after a while i manged to do so. Although it did not stand as good as the first time setting it up. I was planning to go to Bulgaria with the bike and a hammock. But the weather is so hot that it is no fun riding. Even a bit dangerous to be honest riding in such heat. When you have to wait somewhere in traffic. So changed plans and go to Sweden again. This time with a big knife. So to cut a lot of guylines.😅😅 Revenge.🙈 What i find interesting is that almost noone seem to park their bike in that garage. Almost everyone use it as a living space. So it could have been a bit smaller. If it would be half the size it still (for me) would have been large enough. But i would have saved weight and packing size. I have to say that i do find it to big and to heavy. I like to have as less weight as possible on the bike. Also like to do a bit offroad. In their next model i would like to see half the garage size and a way to split the tent in two while packing. So maybe your could hold it better in the main bags or panniers. Also for the center of gravity. Especcially when you ride a lighter bike. This has a big impact on that. I think that everyone has to carry it in a dufflebag on top of the bike. Or maybe i once i am going to tdy a small tent like the Hubba from MSR and my tarp from the hammock to create a dry living space. With a tarp you can be creative you know. Not when there is a lot of wind. I do like to be able to sit dry in a chair. Have some Chinese knockof as you beautifully told. And for me it also does the job. I find it so important after a long day ride to be able to sit. And rest my back. Giving the old musculs some well deserved rest. Whenever you go to the Netherlands. Let it know. I live in the Dutch Venice at the countryside. More then enough space for people to set up their tent for a few days for free. And water is also not a problem. If more people should allow such things then going abroad on a trip will be a bit cheaper. Life is expensive enough.
@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 11 месяцев назад
Hi and thanks for not only watching, but leaving your comments and experiances. Agreed, it does need to be pinned down but having used it in high winds it does stand up to some serious weather. I've also used mine during some very heavy and prolonged rain, as you said I use the garage as a living space. As I ride solo, I always place the tent on the pillion seat, yes it is bulkier than some other tents, but if I'm away for any length of time, I'd prefer a larger more comfortable tent than something lighter and smaller that isn't as comfortable to 'live in'. After all, the bike's carrying it not me. Remember, the tent was designed to give a traveller a place to sleep, eat and live while keeping your bike out of sight if needed.

@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 Год назад
Hi BronsonDC, thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Glad you've ordered it, dependant on where in Canada you live, you'll probably only wear it in the Summer unless you choose to use it as an armoured layer with some warm or waterproof layer over it. I tend to use it as a summer 'jacket'. My stats are 5'6" with a 41" chest and around 154 pounds. So I think the large is the right size, bear in mind it has to be close fitting or figure hugging all over, that way the armour stays where it's meant to. It does feel tight when you first put it on but it's meant to. I hope your's arrives soon.

@robchisholm72
@robchisholm72 Год назад
Hi Ted, It's not as big a job as some mechanic's/dealers would have you believe! I've found that some pad manufacturers do have 'tinfoil' on the outside. Personally, if a bike has Brembo's brakes, I always use Brembo pads. If not, my choice is EBC Sintered pads, HH grade either all round or HH on the front and GG on the rear. HH pads give greater friction ideal for modern high performance bikes or track use, but can take time to bed in and warm up. GG grade is a softer compound and is ideal for general day to day use. Being softer, they bed in to warn brake discs quicker too.

When I know its going to be wet, I wear Seal Skins. It’s April 2023, and I’m going to be buying the new version, which is now Gore-Tex, and has been change slightly, including the BOA system. It’s an expensive boot, but an investment, that should last for years, as my current version has, which I will continue to use, or keep atleast keep as a backup.

Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Totally agree, it is worth investing in good kit, buy cheap, buy often! Mine haven't had the same issue but then again my Gore-Tex trousers sit over the shin area of the boots anyway. I've had to replace the BOA system on one boot as it had broken but other than that, they've been very reliable and get used alot! As I'm not currently looking for a new pair, I hadn't realised Rev-It had brought out a newer version, I'll have a look at them.

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. Do you mean how long does it last? If thats the case, I've had mine for around 5 yrs without any issues. If you need to, you can buy replacement sponges. I hope this helps, if not, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Howdee. 6 of us bought the CFG earbuds to use with our Cardo's. Have to say the earbuds themselves are brilliant. On a downside, the service was crap, took much much longer than the stated time to make and deliver them. I hope they've got that side of things sorted, cos it was a real let down after all the promises. At the moment, one of our lads has sent his back for repair, and they've had them quite a while already, so fingers crossed for him.

Hi Howdee, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm really sorry to hear that the CFG service wasn't up to standard, but glad you like the actual product. I can't use mine with my Cardo as I've gotta have the volume up really high and I have to say I had to wait for mine, but can't recall exactly how long. I've had mine a while now and they don't seem to fit as comfortably as they once did. I may well get a new casting taken at this years NEC bike show and I'm not linked or have any affiliation with CFG, but I do think they are amoung the best on the market for their price range.

Hello mate ! Thanks a lot for the time & offer to present and review this tail bag ! Do you believe a 15'6inch laptop would fit ? Is it possible to do so, without expanding it ? I am about to purchase this, but I need to find the proper bag for my business laptop. P.s The packaging of the laptop inside the bag will be by using clothes around the laptop ;) Thanks once again

Hi Sakis NS, firstly, thanks for taking your time to view the video and leave a comment. It's much appreciated so thanks again. To answer your question; a laptop that's 15.6 inches wide won't fit in the bag without the two expansion 'pods' being unzipped. My laptop is 15 inches wide and fits, but only with the pods unzipped. It's worth remembering, this bag is not waterproof, so even though it comes with a waterproof cover, If I was carrying a laptop, I'd make sure the laptop (or any other electronic equipment) was wrapped in some sort of waterproof bag, same goes for your clothes to be honest. Nothing worse than a wet ride to find your dry clothes aren't.

Thank you for the review, makes me feel even more satisfied.Mine are still new in the box waiting for the ice to thaw (and to get a bit warmer), will come in handy when the season starts (Sweden). Regarding battery status, just solder in "BMS 3S Lithium Battery Charge LED Display Tester". You'll find them on Aliexpress and all the other places, cost me £8.60 for six of them including shipping. By the way, I'm making my own battery packs, 50% more capacity - And, with battery meter and a male plug. Total cost below £20 a piece with HQ LG cells, I'm making four packs to start with. PM me if you want some DIY tips 😊
