This guy is a big dude who obviously is a very good rider and makes it look easy. There is no doubt this guy could ride this bike anywhere but don't get it twisted this bike takes a lot of skill to ride it off in any real off road conditions.
Which makes offroading with big bikes fun. You're forced to ride and practice based on technique instead of sitting you lazy ass down and dangling your feet. You dont need to buy a 20k motorcycle either. What idiot goes offroad with 20k of motorcycle?
@@sinki19841984 A lot of "idiots" ride this exact bike off road all the time. That is primarily what they're built for, hence the term "Adventure Bike".
Made me laugh. Last time I rode in London it was an anti helmet rally in summer 77 on a GS750DB.... The GS (BMW this time) is just wonderful for European touring. So keep well away from London and try Vienna, it’s far nicer. I’ll be back there when the world opens up again
Having a smaller bike for off-road riding in addition to a large gs does mess up your skill on a gs. With enough exclusive time on the large bike, your skill and confidence improves remarkably and off road riding on the big bike does become a pleasure. The only downside is the cost of repairs since you do drop any bike eventually on dirt. That is the only reason to own a cheaper bike for dirt work. What works well for me is a second older and cheaper 1200gs I don’t baby in the least bit. That way I get used to one bike only.
I love mine and ride it 50% off-road. Just stay away from deep mud and deep loose gravel the rest is easy. Great bike for my next trip from Seattle to dead horse Alaska.
it looks sooo easy but its also so easy to loose it and as soon as the bike tips I am not able to hold it and I could not lift it up from the handlebar...
Sounds like they speak fluent Gibberish. The GSA is a good multi-use bike. I ride mine 50% on tarmac, 50% on dirt, and the remaining 50% on steep mountain rocky trails.
Saw this at the show as well, he rides it like it was a 125 very impressed with the new 1250..... I know everyone harps on about it’s too big and heavy to take off road, get a small bike, but just goes to show what you can do with a quarter ton bike and a bit of training 👍🏼
Go further, with smaller Japanese bike. Cheap on maintenance in everything. Most engine is bullet proof. New high tech is so economical and faster. My friend R1250gs cost $4.5k to replace broken shaft drive. F700gs rear shock can get destroyed ! Never goes wrong with bullet proof Japanese bike. KTM not reliable. Needs lots of elbow grease. Fuel pump problems. Ducati parts are expensive !
Yes, great feature - if you're alive, conscious, and are fit/able enough to reach that button........ Interestingly, my BMW dealer reckons you don't have to have it fitted, as he said there "should be a similar sort of app you can download". It is intelligent though, the functionality of it.
Brilliant, I’ve got one one mine (second hand so I didn’t personally spec it) I’d always wondered how it worked...... I’ll be on the look out for a very tall guy if I’ve had need to press it. I’ve got one in the car too - is it just a bigger guy or are there more of them??
The secret of why a GS is so good, balance, easiest bike to ride fast or slow, I’d have a smaller bike for serious off-roading but such a superb road bike. Just about to buy my third😆..
These new 1000cc+ adventure bikes are heavy a f. You've dropped your bike for a reason and it's not going to be on "flat" ground. You're going to be in the middle of nowhere, on the side of a hill -with slippery gravel, rocks, or mud under your feet, and the bike loaded with gear. Trying to stand the bike up by yourself in a real-world situation, let's just say, will be something you'll never forget. Don't even think about going off the road without at least one other person riding with you.
This guy is a man mountain, not many people make GS look small and light! Obviously a good rider though and probably one of the off road skills place in Wales. But who would take £16,200 bike off road?? There more suitable machines?
Robert MacCready yes, sorry about the sound quality. My phone was still in the waterproof case. I almost didn’t post it but though the picture quality was good enough. I’ll know better next time.
Paul, see if there is a chance to provide relevant to what they were taking about your own comments to overlay their talking. Can’t understand a thing...
Not a real world situation at all. Its a professional muscle bound ape riding a bike with no bags no luggage no tour pack trying to trick people into buying this over weigh and convince them they can ride it off road! I'm 76 years old been riding for almost 60 years. I use a Yamaha XT350 off road. By the way I own 7 bikes one being a Rnine t.Glenn Krick Hastings Minnesota.
I'd argue this is one of the most capable dual purpose bikes I've ever seen. A decent amount of weight will keep the bike stabilized via increased momentum. The bike is easy to pick up because of its low center of gravity and wide crash bars. I recon a liter bike would be harder to pick up. Love how the suspension is on full soft soaking up everything. Really want to see someone get after it off road.
I am 5' 7" & know it's a daunting task handling my 2018 GSA rallye low version. I can lift it by myself when dropped but still something am wary about & keeps me from going off road solo! Just did a short trip north Thailand Burma mountain area. Rented a Honda cfr 250 😁
Boaventura Rodrigo Afonso no not at all it’s a great bike for all sizes it’s about getting in the correct standing position more than anything 👍🏻 check out the online magazine and RU-vid channel from Brake Magazine
May I suggest you watch my upload that has improved sound quality? Check the comments for the link. You are right though, the sound quality is appalling. My phone was still in its waterproof case.
BMW R1250 NEC Motorcycle Live 2018 Demonstration (Improved sound quality) Sorry, phone was in its case and so the sound is bad. The above link is the same video but with improved sound quality but still not brilliant.
U r my f???ing hero u can pick up yr bike! Seriously, there is a RU-vid video on this! OMG stupidity rules here! Just from this video alone I am happy I ride KTM!
