As an owner of 22 M Sport version, I agree that its a nice, steady, smooth and linear power delivery bike and can do 40mph even in 6th if you want. But that being said, I would never reach even the 5th in any of the speed you were riding. I seldom see 5th and only see 6th when Im doing long highway cruise in 80-90mph. The other way to enjoy this bike really is keep the gears and take the revs 6K and beyond. Then its a totally different animal showing its true colors and behavior. Take it to a nice empty road and try that. Its already a superbike or a high sport bike inside just with some touring ergonomics! You ride a Gixer, so I am sure you know what I mean :)
I use mine as a daily, commuting about 25kplus per year. It is a docile, nice bike below 7k revs and satan enters the game above. I had a GS as a courtesy bike when mine was in for valve servive at 60k, and I was so happy to get mine back. I seems like the people who don't like the bike, ride it like the boxer, tehy shift up betwesen 4 and 5 k. The people who ride it like it should, instantly fall in love. It is the porsche 911 of bike, a true sports engine fit for everyday use.
I guess the drawback of super tractibility (30 in 6th which that engine is renowned for), is a very busy/buzzy engine, not what you'd ever call relaxing but wow what a motor.
The buzz that you feel is character isn’t it? It’s nice, nothing unpleasant, at least to me it isn’t. I went for a ride on this model and next I tried the RT… felt everything so different . The front on the RT wanted to do what she wanted, and I had to push it to do what I wanted! With the XR the bike was sharp in every way. Even in road mode it was precise enough to ride it fast. On the RT in order to stop the wobbling on the semi fast bends I had to put it in dynamic mode. After twenty minutes later I was adapted to the bike. But at the beginning that swap wasn’t easy 😂 That BMW S 1000 XR is such a wonderful machine! I loved it! Thanks for the video. ✌️✌️
I’ve owned 3 x XR’s. I’m currently on the 2021 M Sport. I hated the first 2 x Gen 1’s I owned, hated them. I wanted to give BMW a chance because I believed there was potential with the next Gen 2 that BMW were releasing. I wasn’t wrong. My Gen 2 is a weapon. I remapped the ECU & removed the catalytic converter. What a bike!
I got ice gray 2020 and I love it just put servo buddy on it amazing sound. Proper weapon of a bike. alen Jefferies at Shipley alway do you a good deal of you are in the market for 1
This reviw is a bit like a Rolls Royce affecionado reviewing a McClaren 720.. Clearly not the bike for you... or, at least not a fair evaluation of this motorcycle's capabilities.
