BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!! BRAVISIMO!!! This is one of the best free vids, and one of the topmost, of paid videos, on RU-vid!! Your in-depth descriptions of the system, how it works, why it works, and why it don't work, is absolutely challenging to the technical colleges!!! You even have an on screen personality, unrivaled in most of the repair service shows on both tv and Internet!! Thank you for sharing, and keep up the good work!!

Dear Mr Roadkill. U killed that comment! Dan is super. This is the time in his channel when he can answer all the comments, when he watches the views, when he thinks about giving us a 50 dollar scan tool that we r already have ten of. This channel will grow exponentially. When he hits 80,000 we'll get a heart. And with that success he will b able to make one or two a week. He might remember the guy from Sylmar Calif. who watches every video and plugs him on the Eric O or Scanner Danner channels. He might not. Let's enjoy it while he's still less than 10,000. Cause it's going thru the roof.

I didn't pump cycle new Bilstein shocks and struts and during brief emergency brake application at 70mph awd subaru went sideways into the wall. Had new rotors, brakes, new tires, alignment right after the upgrades. No other video instruction mentioned about pump cycling new shock absorbers. Great tip learned , thank you so much for being so detailed in every step.

As another viewer commented, I'm late to the party too. I've recently discovered Diagnosedan's videos. I've been binge watching them for roughly a week now when I'm not at work. I'm pretty sure my lady and my kids think I've disappeared! LOL. I really appreciate his in depth explanation of every system he diagnosis. The insight and knowledge he shares with us is priceless! As a tech, I'm very proficient in the domestic and Asian stuff. The Euro cars are definitely a weak point for me. Dan's videos are changing that. If you read these comments, thank you Dan. Keep up the good work! I look forward to more videos from you! As an independent repair facility, it's extremely difficult to stay on top of every manufacturers systems. The world needs more strong competent technicians, particularly on the independent side of things. It's no secret that the manufacturers would like to see all of us go out of business and die. We all gotta stick together to prevent that from happening and guys like you make that possible! Thank you.

Another cent of mine. There are two type of shocks in general. One u mentioned is mix of oil and air so the oil is always aerated - it is called emulsion which are substances that dont blend together but mix together. This type of shock absorber is fully filled with piston fully contracted to calculate for piston and rod capacity. The other type is gas filled shock where gas and oil are separated by IFP ( Internal float piston). The high pressure side of IFP puts pressure on oil side minimalizing cavitation which occurs in emulsion based shocks all the time. Another great video -thx

I work in USA at a European manufacture dealership. One of the most critical steps in diagnosis is going to the computer and just learning the basic function of a system. Often, just reading the general function document will give you all the right questions you need to ask yourself to solve the customer's concern. I used to really really suck at this job and this manufacturer is very complicated. But doing what this guy is doing (understanding where the oil goes, what happens at the passages, etc) dramatically improved fixing problems faster and correctly (and much much easier) the first time. I still suck at the job, but whatever, I make money and cerveza still tastes good, ok? And often reading the function documents for myself, then understanding them, before I go ask the "shop foreman" what he thinks about a problem frequently reveals that he has no clue what he is talking about. It lets me know that he will not be able to help me solve the problem and that I am on my own to solve it myself. Great video. This is not an easy or forgiving job. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for your fantastic drawings and your outstanding videos, you see, I've been working more than 30 years as FP&A manager but now I am starting my own diagnostics and repairing cars business (my real passion), it is quite impressive the way you explain the interaction between electronics and mechanical components and overall how to understand the way of testing, validate their functionallity and fixing failures. I think it is very important to have some knowledge about elemental physic's subjects such as Ohm's law, Venturi, Bernoulli and Archimedes principles, signs law, etc. so we can understand easily the infromation provided by advanced tools. Thanks again and please continue the good work As RuinMan says Gold Stuff man!

thank you for adding that Dr.Dan, everybody on your channel wanted to get inside the damper module. Personally I bet it was a bad solder joint on the controler chip. Molding the PCB inside epoxy did not prevent it to fail... 3 more wheels dampers left to fail from the same batch. LOL

I wish you would of cover typical reasons for shock failure/wearing out...I'm surprise no one has come up with an after market control module for the shock...That's crazy to replace the entire unit for that module...That's why we here in the States we say BMW stands for Bring Money With you.....

Thanks for another info packed video Dan. Almost feel like I could go for BMW service tech now. I have heard of coding especially with Jaguar/ Landrover but never seen how it is done firsthand. Despite its complexity, the VDM does look like it is worth having. Still amazing to see you open that panel in the boot and it is full of connectors and stuff. Also appreciate the time and effort with the damper tutorial.

Hello DiagnoseDan...I was truly impressed by your presentation & clarity in technicalities shared. Truly outstanding insights ever seen. I had this "chassis error- Drive moderately"....for a while now. The car runs okay with this error in the background & flashing used to occur immediately on starting. First 3rd party scan diagnosed Front Left Vertical Accelerometer Sensor permanent fault...I swapped the sensor from left to right & got rescanned. The error then shifted to right...Now I ordered the OE part & replaced. Also, i had put new dampers in the front. The scan sees no error on either sensors but the Chassis error continues...but appears after few seconds on starting...The scan shows a Low Voltage error of front suspension (Not sure about the language). We in India are too short of expertise except the Franchise Services which I have not checked yet. Please guide. Just need a direction on what to expect.

Very good video and there is only one thing I can add. When diagnosing Flexray we measure the resistance in the circuit and also check for B- or B+ shorts. we don't use a scope because the Flexray is extremely fast and on a lower end scope it will give an incorrect reading which will lead to a misdiagnosis. Keep up your videos I really enjoy your channel.

It might be interesting to point out that cavitation is not really air in the oil. The low pressure causes the oil to change from a liquid to a gas. Those are the little bubbles that we see as the oil loses its effectiveness. This boiling of the fluid can be mitigated by raising the pressure on the fluid or choosing a fluid with a higher boiling point, or both. Great videos as always.

a concise instructional video thank you, I wanted to know what this repair cost, I found a new rear damper on ebay at £400, although it was possible to get a pair of re-furbs for the same price, with labour that's a very expensive fix for one corner. .. simon sherwood I do a lot of B2B (Business to business) work. Meaning i get a lot of work from other shops. This car was in the showroom of another shop ready to be sold. That's why a lot of the cars i work on are clean🤣
