Best expletive video on the matter, wish I had stumbled on it before, replaced the compressor on a 530xi it was extremely difficult to remove one bolt under the compressor; had to remove the thermostat which led to a whole set of issues cause of that U shaped hose, a big leak in that area showed up when I was refilling coolant after I put everything back, apparently all those issues were caused just because I failed to drop the sway bar, and to remove the bottom , I still has the thermostat and water pump out, it would be nice if this video explained how to drop the sway bar and to remove that protective covers, cause there is 2 plastics covers, one heavy metalic plate cover, and some other protective plate but no video online has explained how to remove those, because those are critical they r part of the job that real make the difference between reconnecting properly those back hoses, and no one in the videos posted online so far has highlighted that critical step to help do this job properly. Also, it is important to let people know not to use power tools to remove those single use aluminum bolts that attach the water pump. Even a weak 12 volt power tool will break them. If that happens, it's all hell break loose. I'm just saying it's happened to me and spent a whole day retraed that hole, and it was a real pain...

The heat gun tip to get the plastic connectors off of the plastic thermostat is probably my remedy. Also, your advice about replacing the o-rings is very solid, this job is way too much disassembly labor to not be as thorough and complete as possible. Update: The heat gun softened up the spring locked quick disconnects of the thermostat enough that prying and twisting 'em made 'em separate! Thank you very much for the guidance.

Just an EXCELLENT JOB! THANK YOU! One question for me is "Is this much more difficult to do on a x drive car??" Thank you again for this full info and adding the red fusable link info too!! 😊😊

Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts, we appreciate your kind words very much. I have done them on the X5 as well, however I have not had the pleasure of doing this job on an X Drive car yet, but I do suspect it wont be much more difficult to do than shown in the video due to the experience I do have. Just work slowly, methodically, and safely and you will be just fine. Feel free to come back to these comments and ask any questions you may have as the job, progresses, good luck, friend.

Thx for sharing your knowledge in the manner that you did, left no stone unturned. (AHEM... but, for a fella with a Snapon kit, you need to spend a few $$ for a decent cam.) Great job JDM!!

is that crystillisation of the coolant in the old pump the result of the wrong coolant or the result of mixing coolants that dont work together? I have florescent green coolant in my 3 series e90 and have done 30,000 kms since i bought it (was green before also). I just put on a new pump and thermostat and then both looked very clean inside.

A question, bro. I know u posted this video a while back. I just hope you are still around. How did you remove the black metalic shield? Before or after dropping the sway bar?

You are using pre-diluted coolant. Do not add water, distilled or otherwise, to it.

question bro, i haven't scanned my car for any error codes yet but my fan is going crazy like running really high for a few seconds then back down then high then back down just non stop..ppl were saying it's my water pump so i did the test where u just have your battery on and you hold the gas peddle in the activate the pump and it seems to be pumping fine. the car isn't overheating but it is running more on the hotter side of "normal" around like 220-230. do you know what it could be?

you may have a thermostat problem. There is also information that older pumps have coolant entering into areas where electronics occupy. you can imagine how disruptive that would be.

You can get that large hose off the radiator very gently with a large pry bar

I only have the water filling expansion tank when the engine is running
@MechaniclifeJDM
@MechaniclifeJDM 3 года назад
Did you remove the fragile little air bleed screw on the expansion tank, and fill slowly using only mixed coolant, and then run the bleed procedure with everything closed?
