I made this video for the ones who's currently experiencing the same engine overheating, and electronics nightmare I had to endure a week straight. Check the fuse in slot 26. It's a red fuse with the number 10 on there. That controls a lot of your cars electronics. Also test your water pump by going through BMWs bleeding procedure. If none of those two steps work go ahead and change your electronic control module which is located underneath your fuse box in the glove compartment. You can buy one for little to nothing at a junkyard.

Great video, thanks! I just want to ask you one question. I took my BMW X3 2016 to the agency for a change of coolant. Days later, the fan turn on at maximum power. This just happened once. When I took my vehicle to the agency again, it did not happen. However, they told me that battery and water pump were damaged. I am in the process to decide what to do, but it seems that the problem started since they changed the coolant. Maybe, they did not purged it properly as you explained and the water pump is not damaged yet. I have driven my vehicle for short periods of time (20 minutes) and the fan does not turn on. If my water pump were damaged, would it stop completely? Is it possible that it would run intermittently? Thank you in advance.

This is just to verify that you water pump works. You could stop the process right after verifying this by turning on your car. If you let it continue, it will kill your car battery unless you have your car on a voltage regulator.

I have check the engine light on my 328i 2013, first when I've test with obd2 shows a lin bus error, CD8E10, CD8E12 I've replaced the accumulator regulator anything has been changed. then added CD9010 and 1D2404. A mechanic told me that the pump communication module blocks the signal puts the whole network in emergency and turns on the check engine for that the water pump should replace. He disconnected the water pump and the check engine light stayed off. Should I replace the water pump?

I had my 2007 bmw 335i engine pressure washed and I’m getting fault codes of coolant pump missing, I believe it might caused a circuit fault watching this video hopefully fixes my issue ima look into what you changed. Water pump won’t turn on or make any noise when manually bleeding it

hey! great video, I have an overheating/no heat in cabin issue with my 2012 320i. I cant get the pump to bleed so im suspecting that, but I'm glad you mentioned the fuse. Do you think its in the same place on my car as the one you showed here? I have already replaced coolant temp sensor and thermostat due to a previous overheating issue, do you think there is anything else that could cause it? I can't communicate with the ecm so I'm worried that is the issue but I don't know how to confirm it and don't want to throw parts at it. Thanks

I hear you. I went through that phase before. Throwing parts at the car when I wasn’t sure what the problem was. I have the 2015 328i now, if you want I could make an updated video on that car & show you what to look for if your car’s overheating. Sometimes when you’re having problems with your scanner communicating with the ECU, sometimes the gateway module is faulty.

@@GetFixedI’ve got a question. I have the bmw f30 320i 2012 with the N20 engine and I’m losing about 1l coolant in 8-12 days. It’s not mixing in my oil and I have no visible leaks. The car only has 139.000km’s about 87k miles or something. Could this be of a leaking electronic waterpump or what do you suspect?

I never comment on this stuff that is your ECM. However, everything underneath that engine is controlled by your DME and that’s inside the engine bay.

per BMW and Audi recommendation they want you to change that every 80k miles max on some cars in california i have seen that going bad around 60k miles

You may not need to worry about your water pump until a little over 100,000 miles. I love the e60 models, my thermostat gave out on me at 167,000 miles.

Hey, I have a 12 F10 , got into a accident ... my upper house was leaking and I changed it ... now the system says drive moderately engine over heating ... my gage is only at 250... any idea what is causing this ?

Check the coolant level to make sure that the coolant isn’t leaking from the F10. Look in the reservoir to verify if the levels of your coolant changed. If it did, that most likely means that there’s another leak from elsewhere ( whether that’s a lower hose somewhere or the radiators structural integrity may have been compromised from the accident ). Next suspicion is that the thermostat may have been physically damaged which will cause the the thermostat to be stuck in the closed position, when that happens the coolant can’t freely flow through the radiator, engine, and other components of the vehicle cooling system. This’ll lead to overheating conditions which can possibly cause the coolant to boil if driven long enough and cause some of the hoses to blow. Third possibility is the fuse unit in your glove compartment has a blown fuse for some type of engine electronic component that’s causing the overheating condition. That was the problem with my 525i.

Hey Paul. It should still bleed even though your heater isn’t working. If it doesn’t then get a fuse tester, locate the fuse box panel and test your individual fuses to see if any of them went out.

Go look at your fuse diagram or look online to figure out which fuse is for the water pump on your model BMW and check the fuse to see if it's blown. This is how you'll be able to troubleshoot and eliminate the potential cause of this issue.

I need some help. 2006 E90 I just replaced my water pump and thermostat and my car still over heats. I try to do the bleed process but it does even bleed. No water comes out. I've checked the fuses under the hood and all good. Please anything will help 🙏🙏🙏

Also check all your trunk fuses. Check them, if you know how to use a multimeter, set it on the settings that beeps when a circuit is completed. Stick the Multimeter prongs at the top of the two contact points on the fuse. If the multimeter beeps then the fuse is not blown but if the multimeter doesn't beep then the fuse is blown.

Check the water pump relay, also make sure the water pump is actually receiving the 12v power from the connector. If you wanna test it even further you can use a multimeter. Ground the negative lead and hook the positive tester to the control side of the water pump connector. Run the water pump test and see if you get any current values from the multimeter.

It depends on the year and model BMW you have. Not all the relays are located in the same exact places in all models.

Check all your fuses, under the hood, in your glovebox compartment, and in the trunk boot. Make sure none of them has blown. There's a very quick way to check that with a multimeter on the resistance setting, when yo connect the end of the multimeter to both contact points of the fuse, you will he the meter beep when the fuse is good.

Yes. The ECM is located underneath the hood, top left hand corner. It’s underneath the plastic that houses your cabin air filter. It’s sometimes different depending on the model BMW you have.

A few ways to know that the water pump is messed is if the car tends to overheat a minute after you start it, and 2, if the water pump doesn’t turn on after doing this procedure then it’s messed up.

Why not just turn on the car and have the cap off to see if its circulating? Instead of doing all that process about the pedal

Oh because the procedure shows you whether or not the pump works throughout the entire process. If you pop the cap off, you’ll see the pump working but the question is, does it work at all times? Does it circulate the coolant when needed.
