Part one: • BMW F25 N57 Rod & Main...
Reassembling BMW n57 engine after bearing failure, standard size KOLBENSCHMIDT bearings were installed, clearance checked with plastic gauge, 0.043-0.047 was the measurement across the 7 cups.
BMW n57 engine failure, cranckshaft bearings worn out, the ones on cap 7 were completely gone. This unfortunately is a common problem on bmw n57 engines, the 35d and 40d models are affected the most.
In this episode i m trying to save this badly damaged n57 ebgine block
Thanks for watching

I have an E92 with the N57D30A engine and my engine had exactly the same damage by itself. First main bearing after the crankshaft pulley was worn down to the copper but it hadn't spun the bearing around, other main bearings looked worn but still okay, conrod bearings looked like brand new. My engine didn't have oil starvation but it was a high mileage engine. The engine was still running when I decided to take it apart. My crankshaft had a mark on it that couldn't be polished out. The block also wasn't looking great, one cylinder had a pretty deep scratch in it. I decided to buy a used engine and rebuild that. I've driven 8000 km since the rebuild and all seems to be going well. I hope your engine will last too after the rebuild. The only thing I regret is that I have rebuilt it with original BMW bearings.

Hi, Thanks for your message. I’m not far behind, covered just over 6000km, also using the car for towing. Did you measured the oil pressure since the rebuild? I would be curious as a comparison, since you have used original bearings, probably your tolerances are a bit tighter, resulting better oil pressure. Mine is 4.6bars at cold start up, after the engine is fully warmed up is 1.2bar. At high rev is 4.8-4.9 bars. I like this car the power is good, but i still don’t trust it 100% :)

I'm at 10.000km now and gonna do an oil and filter change next week. Curious if I'm gonna find any metal particles. I unfortunately don't have the equipment to measure oil pressure. But I've been trying to keep the rev's up a little bit by often running a gear lower than what would be best for fuel efficiency but I'd rather do 70 kmh in 3rd gear at slightly below 2000 rpm than in 4th at a little above 1000 rpm to try and keep oil pressure a little bit up. I don't have a tow hitch but I have been driving it hard from time to time, power is indeed not bad at all :) I do let it fully warm up before giving it the beans. I'm also running Motul 300V ester oil for some piece of mind and as long as this engine keeps running fine I'm gonna service it every 8000-10.000km. To be honest I'm not sure if I will ever be able to fully trust this engine. Many people say a rebuilt N57 won't last. The reason I went for original BMW bearings is in their procedure for fitting new main bearings they mention there are 3 sizes of bearings and you need to order specific sizes based on numbers written on the block and the crankshaft. I don't know what's the exact reasoning behind it but I thought it might be a safer bet than one size fits all aftermarket bearings. Nobody actually knows specifically why N57's fail this way, is it bad OEM bearings, is it flawed oil distribution system design, is it crankshaft developing runout? We'll have to wait in fear if and how our engines will survive or not...

@@arnobruynen6073 I agree with you 100% on not being able to trust this engines. I did 3 oil changes right after the rebuild within 1000km using cheap Mannol oil just to flush the system. In the first 2 filters I’ve found some amount of particles but judging by the colour 85% was copper left from the damaged bearing. Since then it’s almost 100% clean, but at the last oil change when I’ve cut the filter open and checked thoroughly i’ve still managed to find minimal minimal amount. But i find that amount in all n47 engines when i m doing oil changes, for friends and family. Oil pressures are the following with a fully warmed up engine: At 2000rpm is 2.6 bar At 2500rpm is 3.2bar At 3000rp is 3.9-4.0bars Keeping the car in 7th gear when cruising is a good idea indeed. Also if I can reach 1000 subscribers AND THE CAR is still running in a year time now, I will open the bottom end and check the status of the bearings:)

@@W15Garage I did 4 oil changes the firs 2000km. First one at 250km there was some glittery oil in the bottom of the pan and large particles visible in the oil filter without having to cut it open. Last oil change the oil was clean and I had to cut the filter open to find a very small amount of tiny particles. The particles I found were silver coloured. That’s why I’m very curious if I’m gonna find any metal after 10.000km. If the oil and filter looks fine I’m gonna tune it :) wishing you the best luck with your engine brother ;)

Thanks! I m glad I went with the Kolbenschmidt bearings as a replacement. All the evidence shows the original BMW main bearings is the weak point of this engine. I’ve covered over 5000km since the rebuild, still going strong, and the car is used for towing as well Good luck with the project!

@@W15Garage I stripped down the engine yesterday to find some disaster..5 main bearings was bad which of 2 have spun round and round.. 2 crank bearings was bad too.. Disassembled the oil/vacuum pump and the vacuum pump was very worn and have probably fed the engine with dirt/metal

De nézem a videóidat! keep it up

Egy motor blokk, hajtokarokkal/fotengelyel megoldana a problemad, de sajnos nem olcso. Sok sikert a javitashoz!

Hi! No, it was in good condition internally. Oil pump is not the weak part of the engine, but the OEM bearings. I m monitoring the oil pressure since the rebuild, it’s good.
