That's a nice enhancement. And I am currently planning to replace my car with something else. What a shame. I should have known about this enhancement years earlier.
Can’t believe I found a channel dedicated to the same car I have, everything you have done so far looks sick man!!! Did you get custom headlights or are those stock? If so do you happen to have the link my 2005 needs new headlights after I lower it and add the new wheels next week, KEEP UP THE VIDS 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hey great vid helped me understand the install process a lot. Do you mind linking the radio and working harness used as well as the back up camera so I could get them for my car also.
😱I want those Halo-headlights for my 2009 BMW X3 3.0 X-Drive

I want a 7in apple car play screen where yours is . I found a system on amazon for $88 with a backup camera but I don't know where to get an affordable dash kit for the top portion like yours that doesn't come with a system already . can you help ?? also does your system have Apple CarPlay ?
Thanks for doing this! You make it look real simple albeit it prob is quite challenging for the inexperienced. Do you think you can share a affiliate link to the parts your installed ? I very much would like to install the rear camera and touch display on my mom's X3.
I have a 2005 E83 X3 but it doesn't have the controls in the center but it has the iDrive screen that folds up and down when the ignition is switched on/off. All the controls are in the head unit... giess they introduced the control switch only in the later models
Thanks for posting this great video. I didn't quite see from your video what you did with the CAN-BUS decoder. Did you install it? Is it only necessary for the steering wheel controls (which my X3 doesn't have) or is it useful or necessary for other functions? Thanks
Hey! I did install it. It is necessary for the head unit to communicate with the rest of the car. Even if you aren’t using steering wheel controls, you will want to use it. Installation is real simple. There is a connector on the provided wiring harness that it plugs into. Once it’s plugged in, it’s good to go. Thanks for watching!!
Can you let me know the make and model of the touch screen entertainment system along with the all the parts you used/bought? I'm looking to do this to my 2007 X3.
But is this just possible for the models without the big screen? I tried to find a system but there is always a disclaimer which says: only compatible with the normal radio. Which means without the factory installed monitor.
Love it! However, I believe viewers would like a more detailed view of how you installed the backup camera. You ran through that. All I saw was a slight modification. Does the license plate light still work, does the camera come on when your in reverse only and where is it connected to the new unit? I’m asking because these weren’t called out. I have an 06 manual 6 speed and the parking sensors are activated when in reverse as do the automatics.
Hey, thanks for the feedback! In order to make it work I trimmed some plastic off of the back of the camera, then also ended up having to put a screw at each end to hold it in. The backup camera comes with a build it license plate light. I soldered the wires on to the contacts for the original license plate light. It does come on automatically when the vehicle is in reverse and the head unit also switches to view it when the car is in reverse. Thanks for watching!!
Hey there, great video, I have almost the same model of the thingy, but when i plug the splice to the OEM radio, I can't hear anything from the oem radio, the carplay will play music through the car speakers but I can't control the volume by the steering wheel buttons, nor can I hear music from the CD player. Any ideas what might be the issue?? As far as I checked, i plugged everything correctly
I have installed the head unit similar to what you have but the radio displays "DISABLED" when connected through the cable supplied. When plugged back in the original it works fine. Any suggestions?
Hi Amrhein Garage, Gooday mate. Im trying to do the same thing on my bmw where did u get that touch screen radio with the cover that goes with it can u send me a link or website name thanks
Man, your car rocks! I´m in love with it. I also own a X3, 2006 mine and I´m also having some upgrades like you´ve done on yours. I´ve got the rear camera and will install it, but I´m in doubt of how you took that back part off, the one with the handle to open the trunk where you placed the camera. Can you explain how you took that off? and also how you placed the camera on the place of the lamp... the wire of the original lamp you just left there or have you done anything with it? also, it would be perfect if you explained how you connected the wires... your video would be much better, in my opinion, if you showed how you did this stuff in details. Anyway mate, great car! What is the next thing you´ll do?
Hey, thank you! To remove that piece, there are a couple screws from the outside and about 8 clips. After removing the screws, I worked on squeezing the clips from the inside and pushing them outward. With the wires for the original lamp, I used those to get power to the license plate light built into the backup cameras. For the camera power wire, I spiced that in with one of the reverse lights so that it powers on when the car is in reverse, then ran the video wires up to the head unit. Honestly, I think that is it for the x3. I'm pretty happy with how it is now and have a few other projects I am going to move onto.
@@AmrheinGarage awesome video! really cool they way you do it. could you tell me how does the reverse light cable look like? so that it can be connected to the red power cable of the camera...I bought a similar radio and I don't see the reverse cable. it doesn't say anything like reverse or back. thanks a lot!
Did you install the angel eyes lights or was it already on the car ? I have a 2008 X3 I want those headlights. Where did you get them ? Thanks in advance.
can you please, explain how you connected the rear cam electrical? on a cold engine the video disappears after 10secs for me and I think I have a voltage issue.
I’m so mad everywhere I go they say I can’t get a new navigation screen because they say I can’t replace my factory navigation system but nice car I got the same 1
@@AmrheinGarage great job. Am jealous...lol... I got x3 2012 without the screen. Would you please send me a link where to purchase it? I could only wish You're just next town because I don't mind driving and have you installed it on my car.. thank you
Hey man where did you wire the positive and negative cable to when installing the back up camera? Or does the camera not need that red and black wire to be plugged into something
Hello, Awesome video mate and beautiful sharp looking car! I've installed this unit on the BMW x3 e83 and so far so good unit is performing its job well! But my problem is that I don't know why the rear backup camera doesn't work! :( I did the connection of the wires as explained, but there is no response! When I put the car in reverse nothing happens on the screen, the red "Camera +12v" wire coming out of the screen reads no volt or power neither on reverse nor any situation I would appreciate any help as this is a frustrating matter. Thank you for your help in advance!
Hey, thank you! Not really sure on that issue. I believe I hooked up the power wire for the camera to my reverse light. Do you remember if you did that?
Hey I have the exact car, I would like to know where did you purchase the touch radio, I bought one but the frame doesn’t seem to fit on the dash. It’s too big.
I know the head unit switches to reverse automatically. But How does the head unit know when to switch to reverse? Did you connect the camera to the reverse light wire in the hatch? Does the canbus know the car is in reverse and provide an input to the head unit. Does the head unit just switch to reverse when it sees a signal on the rear camera input. Great video. I ordered a Seciene after watching this. Thanks!
Hey, thanks for watching! I'm not completely sure how it knows, but yes I did connect the camera power wire to the reverse light. I imagine that is how it know, when the camera comes on.
Hey can you say the size of screws you needed for the installation? I bought a similar unit but it came with no installation hardware to screw the touch screen down to the base
Hi what is the name of the LCD and where can i order? I just got 2008 bmw x3 3.osi 4 door no backup camera but build it old lcd screen already. Thank you in advance.
Hello , is the radio working on the lcd , i gave problems with mine I not sure where to connect it , or the radio working just in the unit below? Cheers
