►On the BMW F15 X5 and F16 X6 equipped with xDrive, the transfer case mount serves dual-duty acting as the transmission mount as well. Because of this, there's a lot of strain applied to this mount. Making sure that it is in good condition is paramount to the ride quality and proper function of your car.
In this BMW X5 transfer case mount DIY, having the proper tools to complete this job is a necessity. Gareth Foley, FCP Euro's BMW Catalog Manager demonstrates how to use the BAUM B221010PLUS Transfer Case Mount Tool Kit to remove and reinstall the mounts on this F15 X5. While it is possible to DIY a tool to do this job, having the proper tool will make this job fairly quick and easy to do in your garage at home.

BMW instruction requires to support Transmission or Transfer case before removing cross member. Without support, weight of the Transmission, Transfer case and shaft puts lots of stress on the joints ate the transferase and possible on the lower oil pan split joint, which may eventually starts leaks from lower oil pan gasket. Also, this is a good opportunity to drain and fill the Transfer case fluid.

I wish you would have included a transfer case fluid replacement video on this one since everything was already off. I’m looking at doing the transfer case fluid change on my 2014 X5 SDrive, is the fill plug easily accessible to drain/fill the fluid without removing all those parts first?

I’m assuming by this point you’ve come to the pleasant realization that your sDrive X5 does not have a transfer case that needs maintenance, since it’s a RWD vehicle.

Thank you for this video!!!! I do have a question. What are the typical symptoms of the mount needing replacement? I’m currently driving a xdrive35i with third row seating w air suspension and the second row (comfort seats vibrate on rough terrain. Even below 15 mph. Thought this might be related?

this is a couple years later but might be helpful for people having the problem now. for anyone wondering the symptoms, my e70 bmw x5 had a vibration that i would feel right below my center console. the vibration would stop at around 15-20mph and be totally fine from then on at high speeds. i would also feel it on turns, up to a certain mph. hope this helps! (i have my notifications on so just @ me and reply and i’ll get back to you)

@@mydogeatsmeout1941I’m getting kind of symptoms that my whole transfer case shakes when on lift when I give it little gas. And it also vibrates the whole car while turning steering to right on big road curves but goes away when steering wheel is straight and to left.

With a little more effort you can succeed in this replacement using liquid detergent in the friction soles and vaseline on the new part, 60-70% by hand and the rest with a few light hammer blows.

That's a good question. My E70 had it destroyed. Never noticed anything wrong with it. Maybe... maybe some little vibration at full throttle that I haven't felt after. Technician found it damaged while replacing transmission fluid.

I have an F15 40d. Does anybody else with the same/similar model notice when you come off the throttle at around 1500-2000 revs, there’s is some slight jerking/vibration as the revs are dropping back down? It seems to happen just as the revs drop back down past 1500rpm. It’s particularly noticeable when driving around town and you’re only applying light throttle on and off around that region. It almost feels like a misfire, but it can’t be. Any idea????

Wish you would have showed or atleast advised on how to remove exhaust pipe on driver side. Obviously it was removed before hand to show how easy it is to drop transfer case cross bar. I tried DIY, bought parts and tools only to realize exhaust pipe is in the way. Do you have a video on how to remove exhaust pipe?

My guess is that you've got a modded exhaust because it should be doable without touching exhaust. That said, BMW do like to create a thousand different variants of each series car. Edit: oh, i see what you mean. No, if you take off the shrouds on the other side then don't need to touch the exhaust.
