Today, we're changing transmission bushing on my E53 X5! This applies to all 2000 - 2006 X5's, and is simple enough to change on the weekend at home by yourself! Link below to the parts used in this video, keep in mind the mount is different between 2000-2003 and 2004-2006 models.

Thank you sir! Awesome video! My dads 2002 330xi e46 is all wheel drive and uses the same bushing. The exhaust is in the way for the saws-all so I might be hacksawing the metal relief cuts. Just did the motor mounts too. Go German engineering!

Hi! That clunk can be the front driveshaft splines that the are in his last days of life. Put in neutral and spin the front driveshaft with the hand very fast and lisen.

You could be right, but for my car I ended up needing subframe bushings! What a pain in the butt to change, but the noise is finally gone 😅

@@TheBimmerBarn great! I have a 2002 e53 3.0i at with a lot of miles and I know what are you talking about. Sorry for my English, I am from Argentina.

i know its rubber but would throwing it in the freezer over night hel with the new bushing install? opps looked it up rubber expands when cold

That's a bit of a bummer. But never mind. Depending on the mileage the subframe bushes or guibos are bad. I had this same clunck on the e36 at driving away from zero. In my case, it was the guibo on the gearbox side. Have a great weekend. Dutch regards Nico.

Yeah I know the subframe mounts are pretty worn but I hope that's not the problem! Gonna have to take a closer look at these driveshaft and figure it out 🧐

i also want to by x5 with manual transmission,very good vor towing
@tempest411

No, you don't want one of these for towing. You want an older domestic pickup truck for that. They're far simpler and much more robust.
@thetoughcookie3665
@thetoughcookie3665 Год назад
Depends of what you will tow, the hook max is like 2,3t kg only...
@tempest411
@tempest411 Год назад
@@thetoughcookie3665 The 5HP24 transmissions in these are prone to fail prematurely just moving the vehicle itself around. Using one of these for towing would only cause the transmission to fail even earlier.

There is also GM and manual options. I actually had first one but changed it to a manual.

Does the tcase carrier need to be shifted a certain way before it is tightened to the frame?

These e53s are also known for needing the subframe bushings replaced for take off clunking.

@@TheBimmerBarn It's not that bad, but you will need the special tool for it that can be found on eBay. Nothing you couldn't handle.
@thetoughcookie3665

I did it without a special took with giving heat to the subframe and using a cargo cloth and a floor jack to get them off.. did break one sturdy 2t floor jack and one cargo cloth... 😂 I don't recommend to do it ever without a tool.

👍🏻 for unnecessary sound effects 🤣 , 👎🏻 for clunk still being present after bushing replacement.

By his reaction after finishing the job that clunk was not there prior and by watching this sloppy method u assume he damaged the entire drivetrain by not having it supported initially when releasing the support bar; you can see the whole drivetrain dropped almost 3 inches and could have damaged output shaft or bearing in either or both the rear diff/ tranny or transfer case; this is an easy way to wreck and cause complete drivetrain failure and the sounds it makes is not just worn bushings etc.; I have over 200000 miles on my x5 with worn out bushings and never would it make a clunk like this, so I’m thinking he completely damaged the drivetrain, but kudos to him for showing the work involved

EBay parts are total garbage
@tempest411
@tempest411 Год назад
You can get good parts on E-Bay, but you have to pay attention to the brand. They do sell Lemforder and OE BMW parts on E-Bay. The bottom line: as ever, you get what you pay for.

Chinese rubber suck!! I would pack it out with urethane and let it dry for a day!!

If you want to spend the minimum on maintenance why would you buy one of these to begin with? Get an early 90s Chevy Tahoe. They have 1/4 the parts, and those parts they do have cost 1/4 as much, and fail less often.
