CP, I respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one. All of the big names you mentioned really are Phenoms. Is there more of them? Absolutely, but you can have more than one phenom. You’re compared to your peers and all of these top HS guys wrestling well at the collegiate and senior level, are still better than 99% of their competition. In my opinion, that’s phenomenal. 🙏🏼

But it is getting more common dude, he literally described it during the video, US Olympic champs are getting younger, more 4x national champs are coming faster than ever. We only had one 4 timer in the 1900s I believe and we’ve had 3 in the last two seasons.

@@matt6619 The availability of film these wrestlers can watch is contributing to success. Prior to the internet boom, the only way to get better was to be around an elite scene, either attending tournaments and watching high level wrestlers compete, or going to camps. For some kids with talent, prior to having all the wrestling you want to watch at home, getting enough funds to travel to elite tournaments or going to camps was not feasible. Wrestling, in my experience, attracts kids in blue collar communities and some families didn't have the means. The last 10-15 years are showcasing the results of determined kids studying every possible position they could be in, envisioning these scenarios day and night, as they watched rewinds of the best in the world. I'm almost 40 years old and I have learned more wrestling in the past five years than my entire childhood due to RU-vid.

The number of wrestlers at the youth level and high school level has been increasing. It is going to add depth to USA Wrestling. As long as wrestling is growing, it is going to fund the development programs and hopefully can lead to a positive feedback of bringing more kids to wrestling
@GrecoReview

We don't have the depth of Russia but our depth is getting better and our top level in Freestyle Men's and Women's can compete with anyone in the world. Not having a clear NEXT MAN/WOMAN UP is great for USAW. Now we just need to get our Greco-Roman program to catch up.

@michaelscott33 it's true that the American wrestling has evolved significantly in less than a decade, but competition in Russia always was and always will be deep. So much so that most Russian wrestlers compete for different countries, like Tazhudinov, Musukaev, Zhamalov, Bekbulatov, and Kadimagomedov, simply because they're insanely talented and still cannot get past the nationals. And then they also have to qualify in countries such as Uzbekistan and Belarus which are also highly competitive. Same happens in US as of recently with Austing Gomez and RBY, but let's be real, these guys are competing for Mexico and Puerto Rico. What kind of competition do these countries have? It's practically non existent. So no, Russia is deeper with talent. Sure they're not doing as well but that's because of all the sanctions. Trust me, Russia thinks several generations ahead. So we have high schoolers beating college guys, right? Well Russia already prepares a bunch of elementary schoolers to enter the international stage once they become adults.
@Migh7yb00sh
@Migh7yb00sh 19 дней назад
@@user-hh1sr6mp8l I agree that Russia is probably deeper atm, but as a father of 3 young boys, one who has Olympic aspirations, the US is picking up steam. Will my boy make it? Who knows, but from a personal standpoint, he will have every opportunity to improve his skills if he so chooses. We travel across the country already, and if he wants to keep going, nothing is gonna stop him, certainly not me. Have some faith! We just need to get more mainstream coverage (from a sport perspective) not having the Olympic trials at 10am

I think that were changing our style; the Jax, Bo's, Lukes are the new age of wrestling. Today, the "older generation", are the David Taylor, Kyle Snyder, Jordan Burroughs. Believe it or not. These guys are different style then the youth. I see these youth guys are really focusing much more on re-attacks and scoring off of opponent's offense. Where the "older generation" was all about offense. The offensive attack "style" is more American than anything. I see the Iranians, the Russians, the Turks, these guys at the senior level are re-attacks, scoring off opponents' offense. I've been frustrated for years at our American style. I remember Kyle Snyder going against Abdulrashid Sadulaev, the second time. This match was a prime example of our American style of offense, scoring points, going against the "scoring off opponents' offense" and "re-attacks". The days of John Smith are over. To compete at world level, it's all going to be re-attacks, scoring off opponents' offense. And the new crop of kids are doing just that.

I think Bo Bassett is as good as Pico, but he is just growing later than Pico. Wrestling is fundamentally different at 106 and 138, that's all. In a hypothetical if I put out the pre-NCAA career of Bassett, Starrocci, and Brooks, and said 2 of these guys will be 4x NCAA champs, which ones?, every single person would pick Bassett as one of the two.

@@michaelscott33 Pico beat Retherford during his true freshman year, sure but Retherford was one of the better guys in the world, even at that age.
