He had me at Whipping Post. And when he dropped to his knees...sweet mother! I watch this from time to time to cheer myself up. I have NEVER forgotten this performance! I was fortunate to see him live and he did another Allman Bros song, Midnight Rider. Incredible. Love me some Bo! ❤️
I think the fact that Bo never sold out and stuck to his roots during the entire season speaks volumes about this guy... Great singer, and hope he does well!!! Long live Southern Rock!
There's a before and after this awesome performance in the history of this show, Bo definitely kicked the door open for artists like Chris Daughtry and David Cook, he was my favorite along with Carrie. Honestly i lost track of him over the years, but i hope he's blessed and happy in whatever he's doing, and if he's still rocking at least kinda like this, even better 💖
Bo...with song & the rest you should have WON American Idol. This was on of my favorite episodes. You Rule & Rocked Stage!!! I remember this night & even at this moment in time, I feel like I was there ready to rock with you. It gives me chills how deep it was & your dance proved it. You are & ALWAYS will be my American Idol...you try deserved to win, I voted at least a thousand times, maybe a thousand & one would have given you the win...you are the winner in my book...Love You Bo!!!👊💯💞🏆
Bo fans are very loyal. If you have ever met him in person, he still is the same genuine and humble man he was 6 years ago. Bo you will always be #1 with me, seen you many times since this and you make us all proud to be one of your fans.
Here I am in 2022. Listened to the Alleman bros version and remembered Bo. He could have been a thing given the right people. Find your way back, Bo Bice!
Paula was right..Bo is the real deal! He's the best rocker and most original artist I've seen on this show...He fired up all the other rocker guys to audition the following years..
One can only have so much to give but some have too much to expect from a two minute song. Bo makes this song his own even if it's only a two minute limit. His voice is even so much better. His live performances are even ten times better. Live, he even used maraccas or the tambourine. Best rendition ever!
Yup he was. Had a bad case of flu two days before during the show in Anaheim. Show was cut shorter and he apologized he had to go. A nurse was called in backstage. He's now back to the studio to finish the album.
First and foremost, NOBODY sings Whippin' Post like Gregg Allman. That being said, I think Bo did the song justice and given the short time frame the band had to arrange the song, they killed it!! These guys are one of the best bands on TV, drummer Teddy Campbell is one of the main reasons to watch the show.
"they told me i could choose between american idol or my job, so, i said well i'm going to have to stay on american idol. they said, well, you need to quit.. and i said, i'm not going to quit, if i quit i don't get unemployment, so, they fired me, and i got unemployment for a couple of months."
He should have won. How on earth did Carrie Underwood win? No competition, he should have been on another year and he definitely would have won, over Taylor Hicks? I LOVE Bo
see AMANDA OVERMYER, also American Idol Finalist Season 7, sing this same cover song WHIPPING POST at all her concerts while on tour promoting her new Album SOLIDIFY (itunes). You can see Overmyer's vesion also posted over RU-vid ...
It's a singing competition. Viewers don't want to watch a guy stand around on stage twiddling his thumbs while the guitarist they can't see takes a solo. Plus, there is the time constraint of fitting all the contestants into the hour time slot AI has.
Bo is a fan of Allman Bros and he admires them. Because of this song, people have had renewed interest in them and in Southern Rock in general. Bo is not a pop singer per se but had to sing what he had to sing on the show. If he were, he would have sang Barry Manilow or Justin but he did not. But you're entitled to your opinion. By the way, I like the Allmans too.
I love the Allman Brothers... hands down the best thing I've ever seen that's been even remotely associated with American Idol. Go Bo! Way to stick it to the awful pop that normally dominates
You must understand that he's given only 2 mins to sing solo of this whole band song. You must also remember he had the Idol Band as backup vs the original AB band - that is a totally different story. Bo's solo performance was a milestone at Idol. I have copy of the original song and while it's not my style, I will not take away from the Allmans what great song they did. Neither will I take away from Bo what great rendition it was, not a copycat version. Prefer Bo's voice though.
@jdmyerscountry ^ this That's (at least, IMHO) all it took, all along--just a bit of assertiveness to really stay the artist you wanted to be. Granted, I haven't challenged this system, but I like that this guy rocked one of my favorite songs :)
If you like this song then check out Frank Zappa's version of it with Bobby Martin on Vocals from the album: Does Humour Belong In Music (there's a great live vid of it on you tube).... then you'll hear how it SHOULD be done. This Bo geezer does a good job though.
I have to agree with rob140138. Some folks on here are a little harsh with their comments and I feel like they are of base. A butcher?? He didn't butcher the song. Did he do it as good as Allman? No. I don't know anybody else that would. He did the best he could in the context of American Idol. I hate American Idol and how they don't let an artist be who they are. This guy was the first one to actually fight the system without being an asshole. He stuck to his guns and I respect him.
the outfit is HOT. hes the best. and guys its not about who wins its about who accomplishes. think about jennifer hudson. she didnt win but look at the things she acomplished
this one was amazing... he also sang another one I think that same day... I cant remember but the song lyric had something about Chemical... moma... something... dang... I can only remember those 2 words does someone remembers the song he sang?
