In building a board track racing tribute, the ultimate tension is between authentic look and budget. In this video, I weigh the advantages and disadvantages on several options when it comes to your seat or saddle choice. Do you go with a vintage bicycle seat or a reproduction Mesinger Board track Racing Seat?
Ultimately, it comes down to your budget, authenticity of your build and really your preference.

first off, THANK YOU for starting this series. I have been sitting idle on my first build for a couple years now. I am wondering if you will be covering motor mounts? I have the frame, tank, wheels, and a Honda clone engine that I want to mount vertically. problem is, the company that had the mount I wanted has been out of stock for about 2.5 years now, and are unresponsive to emails. looking forward to this series, it's got my mind and blood flowing again.

So glad it was a help and I appreciate your comment! I can totally cover motor mounts although there are few options when it comes to clone engines mounted vertically if you aren't able to weld. I've found the bolt on ones are hard to handle the power from those motors.

I really like the Gyes saddles and have them on my bikes. I'm not saying they're the most authentic looking for a board track racer, but they're good quality imo. There is a version that has two hairpin springs at the back instead of coil springs which looks cool.

I'm a big fan of old leather Schwinn seats I've seen lots of Brooks saddles break I don't know why but it's always where they connect where the bends in the metal are the saddles themselves are fine it's the connectors. If you want a cheap big one, Ural and Dnepr saddles are awesome

I built my replica out of an actual Indian bicycle. Don’t know the name of the seat, but it’s sprung on the back with a hairpin on front.

Currently have a tan/brown brooks saddle and love it, really piece’s the whole bike together. If my next project is another BTR, I’ll def go messenger style

Brooks are great saddles for sure. I love the mesinger style with the springs for comfort.

Where does the Springer Mount come from that was attached the the Sportman Seat at 2:44.

great question! This was a custom setup using two sets of springs off of other motorcycles with a bent steel round bar with threaded ends so you can bold the springs to the end so there's a stop to change the spring rate and secure the springs.
