Boarding windows is quick and easy if you follow these step by step instructions from Lowe's. Learn how to board your windows with Clearview® polycarbonate storm panels.
Measure each window opening and add 8 inches to the height and width. If your window has a sill, only add 4 inches to the height. The hurricane panel will be attached to the sill with a mounting bracket.
Mark and cut the panels. Mark holes 6 inches from each corner, at least 1 inch from the ends. Then space the holes at most 12 inches apart. Make sure the holes line up with a solid surface on your house, like a stud.
Drill the holes in the panel and make sure the UV side of the panel is facing out. Center the polycarbonate panel over the window and mark the hole positions on your house. Drill the holes and drive the anchors. If you have a sill, install a bracket.
Remove the film from the inside of the panel and install the hurricane panel. Install the washers over the anchor and secure with a wingnut. Remove the film from the outside of the polycarbonate panel. Mark the panel for future use.

I have a brick home. I have used hurricane clips with polycarbonate. I put a small scree in the clips to poly.

Similar to other comments here, we were wondering about the mounting bracket. I called Storm-Busters and they said they don't make one specifically for the Clearview system, but you can just use a common aluminum L-bracket that you should be able to find at a place similar to Lowe's/Home Depot/etc.

I wish you Hurricane specialists would help us Wildfire people out west. ;-) I love the way people in Hurricane areas have figured out what to do. Those of us feeling more wild fire risks don't often get enough warning time. Any way to put polycarbonate sheets permanently over our casement windows that open outward so that they don't keep the window from opening when there's no fire?

Where do you get the mounting brackets for Concrete, anchors and other accessories like washers, wing-nuts, H panel connectors and paintable caps. I don't see them on your hurricane preparedness web site.

Take it from someone who lived this nightmare of over tightening and stripping the screw mounts, causing the hurricane shutters to be nearly impossible to be uninstalled bc the wing nuts then just spun round and round with the screw. Don’t over tighten.

For those of you looking for the bracket, alternatively you can drill into the sill some small 2" L-shaped angle iron brackets with holes and use machine screws and nuts to fasten to the backet from the inside so the threaded ends of the screws stick out - ideally flush with the ones drilled into the wall. For a 42" wide window you can probably get away with using just two little brackets so the screw mounts are 12" apart if you count the mounts ones outside of the area of the sill. Of course the brackets would look ugly if left on so they should be removed along with the panels when the storm's over.

Gotta make sure you get that UV protection during a hurricane because, ya know... that's really important. UV radiation from hurricanes can be brutal.

We had translucent polycarbonate at a home in NC. We installed the anchors flush with siding, and used large screws to keep insects out. To install the panels, we simply removed the screws, put the panels on the siding, and used the lag bolts to attach the panels to the anchors.

Can you join 3 panels using the H-panel connectors? My window opening is 54"x119"

Yes you can. you have to have mounting holes at the top and bottom of the middle piece.. I assume the left and right pieces would be mounted on 3 sides. I consider the part that goes into the H connector is an edge, so the mounting is 6" from the edge.

You have to drill down 5 pages to find them... on that web site... but regardless... the Video saids "to get the printable instructions goto lowes.com/videos" displayed on the bottom of the video @ 2:15 ... this is a 6 year video... and the link goes to their web site, and links this 6 year old RU-vid Video... For someone in I.T. this should be updated. It shows that "Lowes"E-Commerce" staff is taking too many coffee breaks... This is coming from a retired I.T. Manager... ...and also... have you tried to order these from Lowes @ this time of the year... "Not in Stock"... you have to find another vendor. Lucky for us we know the other vendors... Lowes has to think like a "Customer" to better make these videos. Just my 2 Cents

I would use both Plywood and poly... Plywood to use the clips with but I'd cut a big window hole in the plywood and mount the poly over it. The plywood acts as a frame for the poly. You could even keep the plywood stronger by cutting 4 square holes in a grid and mounting poly over the whole thing. This way you get best of both.

My concern with this panels is if they are flexible and a piece of something hits the panel and breaks the window

Ideally you mount them with a three inch gap between the panel and window. Then the window doesn't break. At the end of the day it better to have a broken window than a compromised roof and no home.

No, UV discolors and damages polycarbonate. However, many manufacturers of polycarbonate glass panels will add a layer of UV protection to protect the material from UV damage.

The heavy duty velcro works, and is used by many, but will degrade very quickly in the Florida sun. The bolt anchors are durable and permanenet

yes they are, but you might have to get them professionally installed to pass the insurance requirements. They want to know that they were installed correctly
