Since we went over 10,000 subscribers I thought I would help everyone get caught up with a look back and where we've been. After the 22 minute mark we move on to notching bottom frames for the bilge stringers.

wow looks super awsome! i work in a small shipyard, of like 5-6 people and we build tugboats(about 40ft-60ft length boats), we crank out a fully operation on in about almost a bit more than a year. watching this just make me so happy watching some one love what they are doing and trying to make everything the best they can

Could an 18yr old get some form of an "apprenticeship" at a place like that?
@patb686
@patb686 5 лет назад
@@christiankane5802 for sure! if you want you can buddy and you are at the right age to do it. Do what you really love and you will succeed and sometimes even do better than someone having years of experiences. Just need to find the right place for you and I have a little secret for you. When you seem interested guys always like it and when they explain something to you lisen carfully and they will even like to show you tricks that lots do not want to share just because they learned it the hard way. But because you lisen and seem interested in their stuff will make them in high esteem sometimes. It could be basic stuff when I'm saying that like it but you will see what I mean on the tarmac when it wiil be the moment. That's an old trick from my grand father and belive me I used that many times and it reslly works. Sorry I'm french and I don't speak english really, then I hope you understood the highlights of my advices. Otherwise you need to try it to see what I really mean and of course it's always different from one guy to an other. But like I said you need to want to do it first and foremost and do it with a smile on your face that's important. Peace and good luck!

As a fellow boat builder I have to send kudos to you. That is certainly a big hole in the water you have undertaken there. When I was building boats people always used to asked, " when will it be done?", "how long did that take?". To answer these inquiries I came up with a unit I measure that I will pass along to you to use. It is called the 1 Boat Hour. How long will that take? 1 Boat Hour! The Boat Hour is like Murphy's Variable Constant it can be expanded or contracted to express reality. Some mornings I would walk into the boat shed and just be overwhelmed by the behemoth standing before me. With all the resolve I could muster I would say to myself, " well, to hesitate now all is lost, just put in 1 Boat Hour and THEN quit." It is amazing what one can get done in 1 Boat Hour.

I never see people address the issue of rott during a build. All you have to do to dramatically reduce future rott is to spray or roll everything (especially endgrains) with Smith's epoxy oil or flexible epoxy resin before paint. Skipping this step creates a nightmare of constant future maintenance.
