Mine was too close too. Previous owners tapped the secondary pan down and put a hole in it. You can unbolt a motor mount and disconnect the shaft and raise the back corner of the engine to get the kit in. I’ve got a seep in the oil pan and will be pulling the engine up to replace the pan. I’m going to the. Pull the secondary pan so I can clean under there and repair the pan.

Thanks for the video, is it the same oil for the injection pump oil change?

I usually use 10W-30, a multigrade, in the injector pump, and 30W single grade in the crankcase. I see the injector pump as being newer and less worn than the engine so I believe it will benefit from a multigrade. Whereas the engine is 51 years old and worn, so it wouldn’t benefit from a multigrade. Some would say it isn’t too critical what grade of oil you use in the injector pump. Good luck!

Why not add the oil change kit( modified plug and hose) at the drain plug, so you can draw out all of the oil, instead of leaving 3 quarts of dirty oil in the engine?? I can get all 12 quarts out this way, with a manual oil change pump, in way less time than your electric pump, which is restricted by the wimpy little suction line you have. A small plastic dust pan works best to catch the oil from the injector pump. Use it as a funnel, between the pump drain and raw water pump.

Good idea, but on this particular installation the stainless steel drip pan beneath the engine fits too close to the engine drain plug, preventing the installation of the drain device you described. Otherwise I would have done as you described.

What oil do u use for this ford 2712e?

In the Ford Lehman diesel you can use a multi weight like 10w-30 or 10w-40 or a single weight like 30w or 40w. Be sure to use an oil designed for diesels, such as Shell Rotella or Chevron Delo. They have special additives for Diesel engines.
