EPISODE 74.
In this episode I work on repairing and reinstalling Tally Ho’s original transom timbers. Being Teak, they have escaped rot, but have a lot of damaged areas and holes that need to be filled with plugs and graving pieces. I also need to add a couple of new planks, so I visit a friend with some Teak for sale, and have a look around his interesting workshop. The planks are joined together with vertical splines and fastened to the stern of the boat. An assortment of animals try to get in the way, as always.

After watching the very emotional launching video, I simply had to watch the transom rebuilding again. If any, they're my favourite videos and I've watched them already at least 6 times. Great craftsmanship and real dedication is shown here. I love to watch Leo working. Definitely my personal favourite craftsman/artist/restorer.

I was going to ask a question here, but you already answered it. So now I'm just commenting, to help with the algorithm. That said, this episode really made me happy, seeing genuinely large chunks of the original timber going into a significant part of the new build, AND you're putting them in their original location. I love seeing my inner rational asshole come up against my inner romantic hippy, and they both just shake hands, and say, well done.

Watching Leo waltz through the shop reminds me that the owners of the property have been a significant part in the heart & soul of this project. I know men who would about kill to have a shop like that. I reckon the floor space is at least 80 x 40. To have a 'ready made' shop plus the adjacent yard is a dream come true. Also, will the lofting floor panels be donated to the A. Strange Assoc. if not a maritime museum?

One of my favourite of all the videos in this series and I have loved them all. Two thoughts. The transom looks fantastic. I love seeing the red lead. When I was ten years old (1950) my grandfather and I, using a baby stroller (buggy, carriage, etc) walked several miles, several times over the summer to buy house paint from George Kirby's shop (different then than now) to paint our house - Grandpa painted while my father was at work. When I was in New Bedford two years ago, following your comment that Kirby was the last remaining red lead manufacturer, I made it a point to pass by their present day location - residential rather than their original mill area address.

And no PPE is significant of what? His legendary status? What an idiotic thing to assert. Do you know the man? The fact that he helped out Leo is enough to establish his cred as legend.

Those cuts of Teak that have the old fastening holes would make some real nice decorative pieces that you could sell to help fund the build.

That was fantastic and took my mind off what's happening here in the UK ..... BRILLIANT building as always and the transom will look fantastic in the end and will be such a good talking point for you in the future...... You guys imagine what it took to build HMS Victory hay..... Nahhhh it's looking fantastic due to your hard effort and work...... Hats taken off to you all from all around the globe indeed.....

I love when you introduce us to another craftsman that would maybe otherwise go unrecognized. I certainly learn all kinds of things watching g these videos. Never would have thought about running the spline grain at an angle to avoid splitting. You are truly a master that defies your young age Leo.

Transom is looking awesome. It's wonderful that you are finally getting to use pieces of the original Tally Ho for the build. Yay! BTW, I love the detail on the beam shelves.

Bravo Leo! This has been my very favorite episode so far as a life long carpenter, the last ten years before my retirement were in restorative work on the mansions in SF and peninsula towns like Atherton and more. You bringing back that teak transom was a joy for me as old growth and original timber in non dimensional sizes always catch my eye! I like the explinationof the grain of the spines used. The soft wood note was something new to me. (Perhaps because none of my house spent their lives on water) But as always, every bit of all of this endeavour you have undertaken has been an adventure for me in my chair. Thank you again for inviting me and everyone else along

What a great episode Leo. Norm deserves a video to himself, an absolute character. Pete of few words has been a real find as he clearly loves the work and is making a great contribution as indeed are all your assistants. Getting the transom test fitted was excellent to see.

Stephen Gent >though it’s bad luck to chase a dog off the project... I’ve found that until a dog sits (or otherwise baptizes with butt flesh) on a wood project it never seems to come out just right. So...dog-ON!

What another great episode.Has to be one of my top favorites. Just seeing the transformation of the stern being remade to be useable. Leo is so resourceful and capable. It’ll look magnificent once varnished. No better place on the boat to incorporate some of its original structure. Tho it wasn’t my efforts - worth the extra repair work I say.

Those beam shelves are beautifully finished. As is the whole of TallyHo! Your fellow co workers show the same care and detail as you which is a joy to watch. Also congratulations on passing the 200k subscribers, no mean feat. Cheers from Devon🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. Forgot to say that transom looks stunning, love the honest repairs shows the history of the timbers. I used to do a lot of repairs on National Trust & English Heritage property’s all repairs were left visible if possible.

That an original piece of structural wood is going back in Tally Ho is awesome...and in such a prominent place...truly amazing. Yes is may have some repairs...but, to be over 110 years old, it is beautiful.

i just really want to know how darn many clamps you have !! the transom has to be varnished that is a total no brainer , to paint it would make this entire restoration a waste of time , in fact there should be a law against painted wood transoms !!
