How spoiled were we in Southern California? Chick Hern calling the Lakers, Bob Miller calling the Kings and of course Vinny calling the Dodgers.

Giants fan here. He was the best ever and we were always jealous of the Dodgers having him even though we have a great crew. Thanks Vin

Also a Giants fan. There are plenty of Dodgers have our grudging respect, but obviously we don't love any of them. Except Vin Scully. Never heard a Giants fan say anything negative about, never heard anybody suggest that any of our great and well-loved announcers were superior to Scully. He was absolutely the best.

I was never jealous. Still an admirer of Vin and acknowledge his greatness but the Giants also have an have an all time great in Jon Miller and Kruk and Kuip are also future Hall of Famers so jealously has never been my thing when it comes to that. Both teams have been very blessed to have these men.

Not a Giants/Dodgers fan here but fan of Americana. Vin Scully epitomized purpose in life.

@@franciscocolin2008 True. Overall, I think the Giants have the best broadcast team. They're all excellent. But as an individual, nobody matches Vin Scully. He was just the best, and it's a loss for all of baseball.

Growing up in Los Angeles,I had the great pleasure to have Vin Scully and Chick Hearn. Learning both games from both men who I considered best friends and grandfathers. With baseball being the first sport I fell in love with, between my dad and Vin Scully, they both taught me the game the way it should be played. Blessed to have had these guys in my life. Rest in peace Vin. 🙏

MY memory of Scully is 1961 - July. While eating early dinner w/ my grandfather in LA, we listen to Dodgers-Phillies and Dodgers-Pirates. Vin Scully, hypnotizing us with his call of the games. He was unparalleled. The best of the best.

Bob's description of the trip across the country brings a tears to my eyes. Makes me long for those days again. I always loved listening to Vin Scully, but in Detroit, we had Ernie Harwell, too. I miss those days.

I watched three Rich Eisen videos now about Vin Scully's passing. Rich, who moved from NYC and Bob Coatas, did themselves proud talking about Vin, a guy who grew up when radio and baseball were THE thing and was originally a NY Giants fan. Amazing. I was born in 1953 but don't remember him doing Dodgers games in Brooklyn. I do remember Red Barber, his mentor, with the Yankees, another class act. The amazing thing about Vin Scully's voice doing baseball (versus golf or football) was that he SOUNDED like Southern California. But I knew, as well as Yankee and Met fans of my age, he was NYer and Fordham graduate, who knew New York baseball. I hope his health was good enough to know that his old friend Gil Hodges was elected to the Hall of Fame before he passed. Vin Scully is baseball and Americana. Rest In Peace.

Vin was my favorite since I was ten years old in Brooklyn. He was amazing and was the Dodgers voice. We loved that he was a lip reader and would tell what was being said during screaming matches between umpire vs manager. “Fertilizer!” Instead of “B_____it!”. When the Dodgers retreated to the left coast, the only times I saw Vin afterward was when he did World Series games and I enjoyed his work. Especially when my newer favorites, the Mets, played in 1986 series. He was a gem.

Curt, 55, in the Philippines.. I grew up Dodger blue.. as a kid at home, listening to Vin Scully at night from a small transistor radio. *Rich summed it up brilliantly with ONE COMMENT.. he made it cool to be stuck in traffic. What a hero of mine.. and gentlemen like Vin, are what the USA needs now more than ever.

RIP Vin Scully. Thanks for being an intricate part of my childhood. Two of the most iconic calls in World Series history, 1986 Bill Buckner Game 6 & 1988 Kirk Gibson's Home run Game 1. Vin Scully could do play by play of paint drying and make it interesting & compelling.

How many MLB LEGENDS have been so eloquently honored and remembered by Bob Costas ??? How about ALL of them since the 1980’s. There will need to be a special place held in Cooperstown for the day it is someone else’s duty to honor and remember his incredible contributions for MLB. We’ll see you soon, Vin ⚾️🧢🏟

Great line by Costas about the game somehow fitting around Vin's anecdotes ... Nobody ever lined into an inning-ending double play while Vin was telling a story. The baseball gods simply would not allow it. ROFL!
