All so true. It is more than common to relapse after 10, 20, 30 years of clean time. And you're looking at a girl who did it. I got clean from drugs and alcohol on 2/22/91 and relapsed on prescription pills 22 years later. I still haven't drank and don't intend to, but let me tell ya folks, having a recovery program in your head while actively using is just utter hell. And take this to heart also- it is MUCH easier to STAY clean than it is to GET clean. Please, don't break your sobriety. When one door has closed, but the window hasn't opened yet, it is just HELL in the hallway.

I hope you are doing well and fighting the good fight. I'm not sure if this is true when combating any substance but I found it, hard to Decide to fight, and harder yet to stay well. Withdrawal is beyond hell but the day to day struggle After that is even harder. Is it worth the fight then? Absolutely!✌👊

You always know what you are doing is killing yourself. This is where the hard wired habit comes in. People are physically addicted to these substances and need to get to a safe harbor where they can detox and get psychological care. Also people know what harm they have done to their families and loved ones and cannot deal with the emotional pain and so they “medicate themselves”. People are addicted because of some other issue in their lives, whether it is psychological, mental or emotional. This moron above believes addiction is a “disease” which is 100 percent FALSE. He foolishly believes in the AA model and lifelong “recovery”. Lots and lots of bullshit and people die because of that bullshit. Ronald McDonald Bob needs to go back being an addict, he kills less people and leads less gullible people astray.

The feeling of being an addict is like getting raped every single day. It really is like being violated, it's losing control and choice over your own will and body. It's fucking disgusting.

@@kokokat584The very word “addict” literally means not in control. “Dict” as in “dictation,” knowing, controlling, being sure of. PRE-dict means being sure of or control of the future. A- means opposite of. A-DICT means opposite of being in control.

My avatar, when I was 9 months old, was when I started drinking. By 17 I was a fully blown daily drinker and knew I was an alcoholic having been around AA. It wasn't until I was 47 that I was diagnosed with cirrhosis and had a choice of dying or quitting drinking. I quit drinking 8 years ago this September.

From personal experience lack of support from the family and lack of meaningful relationships makes the drug problem impossible to eradicate
@td315
@td315 2 года назад
None of those things will help you quit, you need to be absolutely done with using before you stop. That’s a mirage that we make to give us a reason to not stop. I shot heroin and meth for years so I understand what you mean and that stuff does really suck. All I had to do to see my kids is pass a few drug tests in row but I couldn’t do it so I couldn’t see them for 2 and a half years. But when you really want to stop you will, to bad it’s after something happens in your life that catastrophic. For me I had a psychotic break from meth for a week where I saw things that weren’t there and other horrible things. It took year of being sober just to realize there was nobody following me wanting to kill me. I’ve never touched a drug since then and have had zero cravings. I still physically shudder when I hear things about using drugs. Im not saying that stuff has happen to quit, you just have to be done.

@@td315 I never did drugs but I use lorazepam for anxiety and I am a bit addicted to it the question is why I started it and the reason to me is anxiety fear that came from my dysfunctional family I mean my parents it was a real hell growing up in such an environment not to mention bullying at school because I was always in fear.

@@kokomanation I’ve had multiple family issues but too but you never really know how bad someone else has it because you haven’t walked in their shoes. But that anxiety medication is no joke, I was into those for short period of time and they are no fun coming off of. But if your taking close to how there prescribed you will be alright. That’s a foreign language to me because any additive pill I got it was a race to the bottom pill bottle. Dude is a licensed chemical dependency counselor in California. Combined with life experience would be a nice mix of information and various theories maybe? Listen to the 'Dont Die' podcast if checking his credentials or motive: we have an epidemic of huge proportion in this country and some folks in healthcare devote their entire life to helping the suffering drug addicts. Grow up knuckle dragger
@leonandrews7180
@leonandrews7180 5 лет назад
Grow up knuckle dragger? That’s real mature. I have learned that if someone opposes someone and has to resort to insults, they have nothing to say, you disagree but cannot give me an intelligent reasoning and have to go to calling names. “Bob” only knows what the current addiction model is and the current model doesn’t work for the vast majority of people. Calling it a “disease” is absolutely wrong. Saying stupid shit like “a belly full of beer and a head full of AA”, I mean really? People who are addicted do not have a disease. That’s moronic. People who are addicted have a psychological problem which can be helped by psychology and sometimes other medications to level out and improve mood. Opiates are ADDICTIVE. Not all people who have to do them for medical reasons become addicted but many people do. It’s not a “disease” it is just these medications are addicting. Duh. This guy thinks that some people have a genetic disease and some people are born addicts. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I know where I come from because I went to “treatment” and was part of the so called “recovery community”. Well, I got tired of being in “recovery”. I want to RECOVER. I don’t want to go to meetings the rest of my life and call myself a drug addict and alcoholic. I nearly killed myself bu thinking I had a “disease” which does nothing except to give the user a license to use. Forget “spirituality” and a “Higher Power”, instead of real psychiatric and psychological help which people need. Bob is a Ronald McDonald clown!
