Bob Newhart has died. The Emmy Award-winning comedian and actor, notably remembered by his deadpan delivery, was best known for his sitcom ‘The Bob Newhart Show,’ from 1972-1978. He was 94.
It takes a certain breed of comic to make people laugh without being dirty, and it's commendable. But, dirty is also still funny, so it doesn't make him better, just a unique breed that isn't seen much anymore, and he was good at it. That being said, there are still good, clean comics out there. You just have to look. Could you imagine a clean George Carlin? Ugh! Makes me shudder.
"Bob Newhart and Don Rickles are back together again." And so are Bob and Emily Hartley (Newhart going home to be with Suzanne Pleshette, who was Emily).
😢😢😢😢 I'm 53 black woman my grandmother passed last September at 93 she and my paw paw loved mr Bob and I did too I'm so heartbroken right now rest in Heaven Mr Bob Newhart kiss my grandmother and mommy for me😢😢
@@MiddleAgedGeek Yep, I'm an old white man and used to like watching Sanford and Son, so I guess people can laugh at people who have different skin color than their own -- who the hell woulda thunk that, eh? I was also told a few years ago by a bunch of white privileged liberal kids that black lives matter, which I always thought they did, but apparently some people didn't know that so these privileged white kids have gone out of their way to tell every white person that they do. I heard a Chinese-American kid saying 'Does that mean that Chinese peoples lives DON'T matter?' cause he sure as hell thought it sounded that way. Damn, these rich white kids sure have me confused these days, always tellin' me who I'm supposed to care about instead my own broke white ass ☺
Here’s one former little girl who’s life The Bob Newhart Show filled with laughter and joy. Thanks for the wonderful Saturday nights, Mr. Newhart. May your life be a blessing to your loved ones. It certainly blessed mine. 😭🌹📺❤️
His show on Saturday night? The Tiffany Network back then had great first-rate shows were on Saturday night. Along with the other networks giving excellent choice. That, too is gone now.
Drunk driving kills. Could YOU be next? Please, stay sober on the roads. The life you save might be your own...walk or take a cab if you need to go to the bar to drink.
When I told my wife about Bob's passing, she was understandably sad, but we both agreed he had a long run, and brought a lot of happiness into the world. And then she said, "Now he's with his best friend, Don Rickles." And that is a comfort.
As a young man working at Harris’s Casino in Reno, where Bob was performing. I was called to fix something in his room. He was the most genuine nice man I have ever met. Introduce me to his wife, made sure I had tickets to his show and gave me a big tip on top of it.
One of the truly original comedians ever. His dry wit and quirky delivery never failed to bring a laugh. And he was never mean about humor. And the ending of the second Bob Newhart show with Suzanne Pleshette reprising her role? Genius on so many levels! Here's one actor I will truly miss.
When I read your comment "he was never mean," I couldn't help thinking that his best friend was Don Rickles. I've heard that Rickles was a very kind man, but I never liked his style of humor. However, I loved the comedy of Bob Newhart. His wit was dry but brilliant.
My Father had some of his records so we used to listen to then growing up. I intend to connect up my record player (finally) and reminisce about both of them. Simpler times and intelligent humour.
Bob wasn't really known as a physical comedian, but his physical timing was just phenomenal. He could give a puzzled look and stammer over a single word for 4-5 seconds and get the hugest laugh imaginable. He invented that brand of comedy.
I am 57. Bob Newhart has been there my entire life. He was funny, but he always seemed kind and wise. I felt a ripple in my soul with his passing. You will be missed, Bob!
I listened to his album in 1960 as my Dad bought it and I played it many times. "The Driving Instructor", "Abner Doubleday and Baseball" "Sir Walter Raleigh and tobacco" --"Crazy Walt is calling from America about a weed he wants to import, he calls it Tobacco"
I'm 58 and all the entertainers I grew up with from the 1970’s - 90's are passing away. It's a wake-up call I suppose as I'm up there as well. All these deaths are almost giving me a bit of a panic attack. 2024 has been another year for huge losses. RIP Bob Newhart. One of the greats.
Can't take it anymore. 😢 yesterday I found out my first love. The first real man I fell in love with passed. I looked on the internet and found out. I reached out to see how he was. I did so one more time. He's been on my mind every other day. He needed liver transplant. Suffered from cancer. Retired Nypd police officer. Last time he reached out to me about last year. He never answered my call or text. Now ❤ I know why. I didn't get my chance to speak to him to tell him I loved him. I didn't get my chance to tell him goodbye. Hurting. I'm hurting. My 😰 have not stop falling...like there falling now..😢
@@robertschuster6922 For me, this is the second hardest death this year. In first place, composer Richard M. Sherman, who wrote the music for Mary Poppins and the Jungle Book and Winnie The Pooh
A classy, clean comedian who did not have to rely on filthy monologue, tasteless references to sex or all-out vulgar innuendos. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. I was just a little boy when I first saw you on television. RIP Mr. Newhart.
Will never forget him as the voice of Bernard in "The Rescuers" and "The Rescuers Down Under"... Both movies were a part of my childhood and now both he and Eva Gabor (Miss Bianca) are in Heaven 🥲 RIP
Mr Newhart elevated the notion of comedy from the clown with a red nose and a Selzer bottle, to a thinking mans comic, with his deadpan delivery and dry humor he was the greatest that all other comics tryed to imitate but few succeeded. Thanks for laughter sir, we'll never see the likes of you again.
he was the BEST dead pan comedians ever. I immensely enjoyed both his sitcoms, just a true straight up comedian. RIP Bob, now you can spend the rest of your time with your true love once again. God Bless
As a child in the late 60s , I taped onto cassettes , off the radio at 1:00am , many of his routines , as well as other comedians , to enjoy over and over.
He was a sweet, good, lovely, gentle soul; and this shown through in all of his understated humor. :) :) THIS is what everyone responded to... Rest in peace, beautiful man. ❤
I had an uncle that always reminded me of Bob Newhart. I told my uncle that and he said that a number of folks had told him the same thing. I lost my uncle many years ago and now I feel like I have lost another family member. He was so good, because he was an everyday person. RIP!
That’s the number one thing with Bob Newhart and Mary Tyler Moore neither one of them needed to have all the funny lines neither one of them needed to be on the screen all the time… they shared their shows with their cast members. Rest in Paradise Bob! 😇🙏💟✝️✡️☮️✝️💟
My dad had his albums and I listened as a kid in the 70s. I wanted to live in his apartment from the "The Bob Newhart Show" so bad! Glad that a wonderful man like Newhart lived such a long wonderful life with his amazing wife. Bye, Bob!
The ending of the series "Newhart" was genius! When Bob woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette and tried to explain the dream to her, "I owned an inn in Vermont, and our maid was an heiress. We had a handyman who couldn't fix anything, and there were these three woodsmen...." It was even funnier if you recognized the twist was a satire of the TV series "Dallas" where Bobby Ewing was killed off, then returned an entire season later when his wife Pam found him in the shower when she woke up, so the entire previous season was supposedly just Pam's dream! "Newhart" is my favorite ending to a TV series. Rest in Peace, Bob. Thanks for the laughs.
Oh, not Bob Newhart! I love everything he's done. My family sure enjoyed watching The Bob Newhart Show together. Such great television. RIP Mr Newhart. Thanks for so many years of laughs. We'll miss you.
I loved Newhart. I was a kid when it was on, but I washed it with my parents and grandparents. The theme song is always in my head. I love watching it on TV now and try to get my kids to watch it with me. Larry Darrell and Darrell was the best gag ever. Grandma and grandpa are long gone and now Bob joins them. Thanks for the memories ❤
The 70s and 80s were the top of the game for a lot of sitcoms and shows and bob newhart and cbs were right there!! The whole family could watch many of the shows and remember watching them with my parents, even saturday nights !! RIP bob newhart, you are amoung the angels now!!
Bob was awesome. The way he would stammer telling his jokes. I would watch the "Bob Newhart show" with my mom late night when I was a kid. You'll be missed, sir. Thanks for the laughs.
I actually just wrote a letter to Bob Newhart earlier this month congratulating him on the 95 years he spent in the field of stand up comedy, and I certainly hope it got to him in time and that he got to read it. RIP bob Newhart, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart were some of my favourite sitcoms growing up, and he is going to truly be missed.
Always loved, adorn, admired and respected Mr Bob Newhart. Immensely sorry to hear about this beautiful man passing away😢i will always love❤and miss Mr Newhart Especially his Bob Newhart theme song❤❤❤ always made me smile 🙏🙏🙏🙏 rip beloved friend 😢
Bob is woven into my life and it brings a tear to my eye that I will have to continue without the smile he gave me from all his portrayals. Ultimately like all the greats his roles just became showcases of his iconic style that we all looked forward to. Saying Bob will be missed is an understatement as we will forever borrow little pieces of his act and cherish the privilege of his having shared it with us. There are so many times I am on a phone call where I feel like I am in a Bob Newhart routine.
I LOVE this man!! MY all time FAVE!!! The BOB NEWHART SHOW WAS one of the BEST sitcoms ever!! You have me in tears again only this time for the GREAT LOSS ! Thanks for the LAUGHS!
The mold was thrown away when they made Bob. I loved his humor that was on time and natural. It was real intertainment with great characters back in those years. Thanks for all the laughter Bob 💕 💖🕊
What a lovely tribute to Bob by ET. I would say he’ll be missed but I believe he’ll live on forever in syndication and make future generations appreciate him as well ❤️ RIP 🥲
This man's wonderful understated humor and presence in the world meant so much to me. R.I.P. Bob Outwardly, he couldn't have seemed more ordinary and everyday, but his humor and wit had a charisma all their own, enough to drive what I think is the greatest sitcom of all time - The Bob Newhart Show. Still watching
Bob Newhart's "Button Down Mind" album was a passion of my father's. An early and precious memory of mine is being held by my father, and the sound of him laughing as the record played on the turntable in the dining room at home. I grew up knowing his comic monologues inside out. I loved them as my father did and I love them still. That's the great thing about 'funny'. It has no sell by date. It never goes out of fashion. Thank you Bob for the memories and the laughs. RIP.
Grew up on a farm in Pa in the 1970s, watched him every Sat night at 930 and dreamed of going to work in an office, living in an apt in the city and being married to Suzanne Pleshette. Got everything but Suzanne. RIP Bob Newhart, my quiet funny hero ❤😊
A true hero of the entertainment industry...there will NEVER be another Bob Newhart...thank you Bob...to me you will always live in the minds of generations to come
Watching all our big stars from 70s to 90s pass away is so painful. Its like my childhood fading. Fearing to see more pass away before my time can really bring a person down. Rip Bob.
In 2024 I'm still watching the bob newhart show with suzanne pleshette. And the newhart show on Monday nites. Tonight I'm gonna end my evening with a couple episodes of the bob newhart show and all the crew. ❤❤❤RIP
I grew up in the 70’s and we watched the Bob Newhart show, Mary Tyler Moore and All in the Family every week. I loved his delivery, his humor and humility. His monologue routines were absolutely priceless. RIP Bob. You were as good as it gets. ❤
Bob Newhart was a total riot - in his early and frequent routines with Dean Martin, and then the classic The Bob Newhart Show, to Newhart. Always self-effacing with a great cast on both shows. A true legend. RIP
I was in my early 20's and I loved Newhart. I saw every episode, I liked Bob's dry sarcastic wit. Rip Bob, Up there with Peter Scolari and Tom Poston again, and your wife. Thank you for the laughter
