You can tell from the hesitation in her voice that Joyce was obviously quite nervous but I think anyone would be if it's their very first time on camera. She did do an excellent job of explaining her methods and techniques with creating seascapes! I'm sure Bob was proud!

We miss Joyce Ortner. She passed in about 2015 from cancer. She was a ware of the system we lived in and supported the Resource based economy. I introduced it to her. She is missed. They do still sell her DVDs on her website. Her husband is taking care of such things.

Joyce is right. You don't have to have a painting like this done in half an hour. Take your time. Remember, "You can't rush art." Bob and his friends can do it in half an hour because they're professionals, they've spent years painting to become this good at it.

Cuz it looked like it was a total disaster at that point, like she was some kind of beginner that Bob brought onto the show just so he could make a happy little accident with her! But then she fixed it right up into a nice painting. Can tell she isn’t at all used to that kind of time pressure though.

@@ivelinda I kept trying new tutorials and I found ones from a channel called _"Positive Sketch Art"_ that has a lot of videos that you can follow. I improved a lot thanks to that channel! My advise for you is to keep trying, don't give up. Painting is an accumulative activity, but you'll improve with time. XOXO

i paint abstract, some of the things they talk about in this show have helped me, like how to use light and how to use different types of strokes for different effects. But ultimately, I'm just here for the soothing voices and to watch someone create something formative in less time than I can make a spatter painting.

I watch to learn even though I don't paint with oils and nowadays do more digital compositing. There are many things to pick up on with technique here. I also am an abstract painter for the most part but want to broaden that horizon so to speak.

I have watched Bob for 30years now and 3years ago I decided to try his technique. It actually works and really helped me a lot. BUT the relaxing/interest factor is still the main reason I watch

Her voice is/was lovely! Man, how better life was in the 1980's. People were not as hurried and rushed as some people are today in 2021. A lot of people had soothing, calm voices.

Actually Bob only received money through his own works and private corporation, he did all episodes for the Joy of painting absolutely free. just for the pure enjoyment of passing on the torch to aspiring artists. He was quite a guy, so sad he left us so soon. he was a ledgend in his own time & will always be remembered & admired : )

lenny108 I found the way she explains things is a little like a math teacher - circling what she’s explaining about the waves and shit. I found myself skipping parts of the video whenever she did that, it was too “teacher like” for me. And with my ADHD I found it INCREDIBLY boring and uninformative. I like the way Boss explained what he was doing.

I really liked the tutorial aspect of her video. For example, when starting the wave, how she did the arrows and then below the baseline of the wave, she made the “c” and “s” - both shapes you do not want to do

You can really see the glare on the painting when looking at the sky, and tell that she really blends the white into the blue toward the beginning of the painting, and the lower half of the canvas toward the beach side of the painting near the end of the video. You know, Joyce has a nice soothing voice, too. I could listen to HER voice all day. ;- )
