Bob Knight indeed was inflexible in many ways, but strategically one of his most brilliant moves was having his team run with the UNLV Runnin' Rebels and shoot quickly instead of trying to slow the game down. Nobody expected that. This was in the 1987 semifinals, and the Hoosiers won that game as a result and then defeated Syracuse for the championship.
RIP “The General” greatest coach in history. My HS coach modeled his program after coach Knight. Society needs more Coach Knights. Our country today is in shambles because of weak leadership. Big deal grabbing a kids arm or shirt. I played at a very competitive level and would have loved to have played for coach Knight. RIP Coach
Bo Ryan everyone Is flawed however Mr. Bobby Knight was meticulously impeccably prepared to fearlessly relentlessly compete The Best College Basketball 🏀 Coach
As an IU fan, old enough to remember IU basketball when Bird was a freshman, I too wish Knight would've done something to save Bird from leaving. IU would've probably won another championship or two with Bird in the late 70's. Woodson came in '76-'77, so those two would've played together in the late 70's.
I'd like to correct one point. Scott May played seven minutes in the 1975 NCAA regional final against Kentucky. Indiana had a very deep team that year and was perhaps a better team than the 1976 champions. Kentucky was a senior dominated team that year and had been embarrassed by the Hoosiers earlier that season. Would Indiana have won with a healthy Scott May or a young Larry Bird? Impossible to know. You play with the team you have and Kentucky won that day.
Great Stories: If anyone else can tell some first or 2nd hand stories of Bob Knight it would certainly be appreciated. You can leave them as a comment to this post and thanks again!
But if Landon Turner had transferred like Luke Reckor did would he still have taken care of Turner like he did because he didn't do so much as send Reckor card after his car accident that left his girlfriend paralyzed and killed her brother
@@wadevandort1598 Where did you get that tidbit of "information?" I can find absolutely nothing to back it up. Maybe it was through a friend of a friend of Kent Benson?
@@wadevandort1598OK, do you have a link to the article? If Bird really didn't attend classes and wasn't concerned about getting an education and a degree, why did he stay through his senior year? Why didn't he just declare hardship when he was drafted in 78? Doesn't make sense. And again, I've found nothing to back up your claim.
