Especially when earlier in the song he talked about "sweet summertime". I'm 57 now, but man oh man did I love the sweet summertime! Autumn is indeed closin' in, but it is still sweet to experience those Indian summer days occasionally.

I'm 61 years old and it was just about 8 years ago that it hit me like a hammer what this song is really about. The stages of life. As you get older you hear the thunder and how far off you wonder. You are wondering when the end will come.

I'll take a Bob Seger song any time... incredible story teller with a groove. Bob always takes you way back to your youth in a wistful kind of way but the memories make you feel good. Lots of great songs, personal favourites include "Main Street" and "Like A Rock".

Seger was an Ann Arbor kid. I grew up in mid Michigan in the same era. Drive in’s, fall colors, winter closing in - his songs evoke many memories in a very good way. Want an upbeat hard driving rock tune? His first hit Rambling, Gambling Man or Kathmandu - they fit the bill. Want a rock ballad? Turn the Page. He has way too many pop classics to choose just one!

Bob Seger charted 31 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. I was fortunate enough to see him during his farewell tour a few years ago and it was one of the best live shows I have ever been to. Loved the way he paid homage to all of the greats who have come and gone by displaying pictures of them on the stage backdrop. This man knows how to write a song that connects to your heart. He played hit after hit after hit, nobody ever sat down during his entire show. At one point I counted 11 musicians on stage. Just a phenominal evening for the memory banks. Enjoyed your reaction, TY.

This guy named Bob Seger is a MONSTER songwriter and singer! 31 Top 100 and 7 Top 10 songs is an amazing accomplishment for a guy that looked like a Woodstock hippie but sounded like a freight train with a little gravel over honey. We all love great lyrics, grooving tunes and top notch production value. That’s BOB SEGER . Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with fellow Detroit native Kid Rock giving a great induction speech ❤

I saw Bob several times over the years - always a killer show. When they hit the slow spot in this song all the lights would go out, with just a couple of tight spots on the slowly revolving mirror ball above - the audience adrift in a field of stars - everyone quiet until the song kicked back in - and BAM! what a release. The song Hollywood Nights is a kick-ass piece of R&R.

Another great record and reaction--you and your fans continue to delight. In case you haven't noticed, I love pondering and interpreting lyrics. Here, I notice how before the break, Seger sings: "Oh, the wonder. Felt the lightning, and waited on the thunder" Then the music turns contemplative, and Seger sings: "I woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off I sat and wondered"' Is that the thunder he was waiting for, a reminder that those days have passed him by, or both? Thanks all, for so much delight. Peace.

"With Autumn closin' in..." F*ck. Me. That's even deeper than it looks on the page or sounds to the ear. Bob Seger is one of the greatest rock voices of the American Experience, and absolutely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as his fellow poets Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Melloncamp, John Fogerty and Bob Dylan.

getting a piece was the first part of the song, when the song slows down he is years and years older and is reflecting on his youth but now is facing old age and death thus the lyrics "with autumn closing in" this song is deep.

Great tune from a Detroit Son. My house is on the side of a hill looking over the valley I own in Up-State N.Y. near Cooperstown. SO... I have two JBL 12 inch speakers mounted outside facing the valley. Sometimes I turn them on. There is only one neighbor 1/4 mile away, occasionally he'll call and tell me he liked the tune I was playing. this is one of those tunes he likes as much as everyone else.
