I am a Buckeye fan but what Coach Stoops is doing just shows how honorable of a man that he is! OU is lucky to have him on their sideline once again. Good luck to the team as long as it's not against the Buckeyes!
He may not be my favorite guy, but you have to respect the man. I liked what his brother did for you guys, though...that was awesome! 🤣 But Bob Stoops has always demanded respect and he deserves it. Pure class.
@@dsumpter5450 Hey, the success of our teams is tied to each other's. I've always had nothing but respect for OU, and glad we are both going to the SEC. Also, the horns down doesn't offend me, it's all part of the game and the rivalry. I think most UT fans really feel this way. Y'all deserved more respect from your outgoing coach, especially toward his players and recruits. It's no secret that he's a big name coaching prospect. I think I can speak for most people, in that we all thought his loss would be to the NFL... not a lateral move to another NCAA program. In all reality, it's a step down. If I were OU, I'd try to keep Stoops on for at least a season, while more vacancies and coaching prospects develop. It provides continuity for the players and recruits, and shows that you've currently got a proven coach on staff.
I'm born and raised in Texas. Longhorn for life. I am not an OU fan at all...Stoops is truly a class act. I hope OU tears the shit out of everyone they play moving forward
This is like putting a band aid on an open wound. Stoops is not the long term answer. Stoops is here for 1 game and if anybody wants more games with Stoops then that is asking for bad news.

Okahoma is the better job-place to live than USC-LA...... I would even rather live in Oklahoma than Los Angeles. Only good thing about LA is the beach, the drive out to nice places 1-2 hrs away and Beverly Hills.... Other than that Norman is even better. Plus Oklahoma has nicer stadium, fans, facilities, media,etc LA mem colliseum is horrific after the renovations. Its actually a worse stadium.
I think Mike Gundy deserves just as much for his leadership and loyalty to OSU. He is Mike Gungy the head coach north of OKC in a little town called Stillwater, Oklahoma, and will be until the end of his career and beyond, Cowboy orange is part of his blood. As always, I will have your back in the Big 12 championship game and (crossing fingers) hopefully the Playoffs too, unless you're playing OU. (ugh) Go Pokes!!!
@@tomwoods6082 There’s no coach I’d rather have than Gundy. I think his brother should get a shot at the OU job. He played there. He’s been on the coaching staff there since 99. When asked why he’s never joined Mike in Stillwater he said he would never leave OU. That’s the type of dedication they need in the new coach.
Say what you want about Bob but loyalty is a very good trait to have. 18 seasons says a bunch. And he had several chances to go elsewhere, both college and NFL. Thank you Coach Stoops.
OkState fan here… Nothing but respect to coach Stoops, even more today seeing him taking the interim role to help out the program. Nothing but huge respect to him. He loved OU. All the best!!!
As a lifelong Gator, Florida won a NC in '96 with Bob Stoops as our Defensive Coordinator. He was a first-class act then just as he is today. I rooted for OU except when they played Florida and still do. It will be exciting having OU and Texas in the SEC.

I’m sure Stoops knows the job is his if he wants it. Don’t expect him to take it but anything’s possible. I think it’s a class act of him to step up for the bowl game
You know in a time when every single person is looking out for themselves this might be one of the most inspiring moments from an unimportant needless press conferences about sportsball. Watching the joy that Bob has been able to accept the challenge of helping Oklahoma through this time is some of the most inspiring shit I’ve ever seen.
This is a all-hands-on-deck moment for OU, and Coach Stoops is right out front. So glad the OU leadership and Coach Stoops are stepping up and taking control of the situation. Sooner Nation is in good hands. Boomer!
OK that is really good for the bowl game but what is the plan for 2022 and beyond? I tell you what, Stoops is not the answer. Big game Bob is not the answer. I guess he can fire up the team for 1 game but that's about it. Asking for more from Stoops is a dream! OU is in big trouble because more players are going to leave the program to play for Riley or someone else.
he did what was best for him. Hard to say thats not what you or I would have done. At the end of the day we each do whats best for us and our families.
I’m trying to be positive lol. I’m saying I hope Nebraska can pull its head out of the gutter and be competitive again. I know OU fans and college football fans in general would not have a problem with Nebraska being competitive again.

There's a reason he just got into the CFB Coaches Hall of Fame. Dude is made of class and integrity. Sadly we missed the mark there on this latest coach but hopefully the next will be.
Wow! Didn't know stoops was stepping in and helping the program. Dude is a legend for sure. Btw buddy looks great! Wouldn't mind if he took the reigns over for a few years and molded a new HBC that will stick with the program for a couple decades.
Gotta say I’m routing for you guys, being a Michigan fan I know how it sucks to have bullshit after going through success. Would love to see OU and Michigan start this season and next 10 years being dominant.
I think he will for a while. He really cares about OU. If he is going out recruiting I think the first question I would ask as a recruit is are you going to coach me. We really need him to stay as head coach for a few years. I heard 4 of the top recruits have already turned away.

Man i didn't think seeing hi up there would do so much for me. i didn't know this would effect so much but man i was real down about 5 minutes ago its crazy how lucky we are to have stoops and how him simply stepping up and saying its gonna be alright actually makes you feel like it just might be.
I gotta say…I was really glad when he stepped down. I thought it was time. Now? I feel like the luckiest fan in the world to have a guy of his class walking around the University.
USC fan and alum here. I’ve always admired OU from afar and have respected Coach Stoops for a long time. I’m glad USC hired Lincoln Riley, but I didn’t appreciate how it went down. I’d imagine the way OU fans feel about Lincoln Riley leaving is similar to how USC fans felt when Pete Carroll left, likely worse. You guys are in good hands with Coach Stoops. I want to apologize on behalf of the USC program for how this all went down.
Red Raider fan... When I think of OU football I think Bob Stoops... The dude is a relentless competitor and he shoots from the hip! This here just shows this man's love and commitment to OU and he's all in! He's right this is just a bump in the road! Wreck'Em!
As a Longhorn fan I've always had nothing but respect for Bob Stoops and now that respect just grew exponentially!! Way to step in and be there, never cared to Riley know he was a snake in the grass

@@toddrainer3889 how many other teams did the same thing over the years. Only reason this is such a big deal is because it’s OU and Texas. They bring 50% of the money by themselves they have every right to leave.

Put Bob on the Short List of candidates, he is rested now. And I think of what Bill Snider did at K-State on his second time around and I know Bob can top that.
Coach Stoops was the only Fox Analyst Picking the Michigan Wolverines to win "THE GAME" before the game started. He also appreciated Jim Harbaughs loyalty to Michigan and the University Sticking with Jim Harbaugh. The Law of Diminishing returns comes into play at some point in Coaching! OU will have to navigate this the best they can. Hoping USC and Oklahoma will be on a collision course in the near future!
I didn’t lose respect for Lincoln Riley leaving for another gig as a young-ish coach, but I really respect Coach Stoops for stepping in after a crushing moment for OU. We’re looking at what seems to polar ends of no loyalty vs. true loyalty, and it is interesting overall because people didn’t expect either Riley to leave or Stoops to sort of step up out of nowhere
I've lost ALL respect for Riley. Lied to his players, lied to parents. Zero loyalty, zero heads up to the AD or the University, leaves before the bowl game and then takes half the coaching staff??? No, zero respect for that shady move.
@@conservachick100 Ageed, he literally walked into to a meeting with the players and coaches and said I’m going to USC and walked out. I knew he was soft but I didn’t think he was disloyal.
Husker fan here. Much respect to OU! Stoops is right! You guys have nothing to worry about! You guys are a great program, and have been! Now it's time to head to the SEC and kick some ass! You guys always kicked our ass for years, but you did it with respect! I feel Oklahomans and Nebraskans respect each other, we've been to battle together, and both have came out victors! I wish nothing but the best for OU, unless we're playing you!
Sooners are so lucky to have a guy like Stoops attached to the program. Honestly watching this really upsets me greatly about how the local media treated him during his last few seasons. This is a guy who should have always been treated with respect.
Hopping the best for you guys and your program. Get the right coach that can help your kids achieve the greatness that is inside of them and this time next year you won’t even be able to remember Lincoln Riley’s name. And ROLL TIDE!!
Bob Stoops is a class act, a man of great character. Oklahoma is going to continue to be a very good football program and wish the players and those involved at every level success.
Trojan fan here. Bob Stoops is an exemplary human being. He’s doing a good thing for a university he obviously cares a lot about. OU is going to make it through this and keep on winning.
Call me a football nerd but i've grown up a Sooners fan, my dad and two of my uncles went to OU in the 80s, so that being said i've always had respect for Bob Stoops. But hearing these words from Bob Stoops during such a devastating time for an Oklahoma Sooners fan was so encouraging and inspiring. And then Brent Venables' entrance on top of that and the way he's led this team to being 3 - 0 has been so inspiring to the say the least. I wrote this quote down from Coach Venables' post game interview after the Nebraska game because it really spoke to me ""You develop an identity and mindset through some failure and adversity. You grow and improve."
i thought stoops coming back for interim was kind of corny and a hack move... i was wrong dude took over that room and set the record straight.... with him and switzer leading the charge out there OU will get a good guy.
Also a Buckeye fan and I’m happy for Sooners fans to have Stoops step up and do the right thing for those young men that were legit just left by their HC. I understand it’s part of the business but these are young college men that look up to their HC and Riley legit just left them overnight and didn’t give two cents. It’s sad. He could have been way more professional and mature about his choice and decision to leave for USC. Happy that Stoops is a honorable man and loves the Sooners program when they legit we’re screwed big time! #Respect
OU back in really good hands, I’m happy for the young men in the program there and the fans but also sorta hope he doesn’t stay too long , I’d worry a lot more when the team I pull for plays them with him on the sidelines instead of the guy who just left…. Bob Stoops is heck of a coach and a class act for stepping up
Definitely not a Stoops,Sooner fan, ever. However, Coach Stoops has earned my respect and the rest of the football worlds respect by the speech he just made concerning this football program. Any parent or student athlete recruited by O. U. Should be proud to play for this program. Nuff said….. whooop ! “ GIG’EM “ AGGIES !!!!!!!
Just so it doesn't get buried as a reply to another poster's comments. Bob Stoops is a good dude. He arrived in Norman and turned the program back into the national power it once was. He stayed there to join the Mount Rushmore of OU coaches and was constantly rumored to leaving for other pastures. That went on virtually every season but he never left. He always did the honorable thing and that's what he did when he resigned/retired as OU's coach. Lincoln had risen to national prominence after doing some magical things as OU's OC. Bob being astute knew that it was only a matter of time before college's would come knocking with HC positions. Having great confidence in Lincoln and believing that he would be the perfect person to replace him and lead the next era of Sooner football, he stepped aside. Bob again did the honorable and did right by the university. Sadly, Lincoln did not. However in the end, Lincoln's departure will be the best thing for OU and OU football because now the university will be able to find someone with honor commensurate to those who came before and USC will be stuck [not for long] with someone who has no such honor. Thank you Bob Stoops for always bringing honor to the University of Oklahoma.
What has been said about Bob Stoops in this responses tells it all. A Stoops (coaching), Switzer helping holding recruits is a testimony to the legend of OU football. I was fortunate to be at OU for 47 game streak.
