I'm a retired Major paratrooper and a black belt in Kenpo Karate, all those "macho" things. I still needed some kleenex for my misty eyes. Your video touched me. Thanks for your service and your inspirational you tube posting.

No words can discribe how touching this is. This is what Christmas is really about. Caring for your fellow man. I almost lost my husband this Christmas. He was in a car accident on the 22nd. By grace of God, all that happened was he got mild whiplash, the car was totaled. A car can be replaced, but not a loved one.

I lost two wonderful sons to a drunk driver years ago. I still vividly remember the knock on the door and the compassion of the police officer. I actually felt sorry for him knowing the devastating message he had to deliver. I was alone and I know I just sat there and went into shock. He stayed with me until my wife and daughter returned from shopping. My heart goes out to anyone who has to deliver such messages.

Thanks so much, Bob and Sue. I lost my wife just over eight years ago now, and I still remember the wonderful Indiana State Trooper who was there to help me when my truck had broken down on the interstate the day before I was to bury my wife, who had just died from cancer. He not only helped me, but he prayed for me and my family at that incredibly dark time. I haven't forgotten, and neither has my family, nor will we ever.

I fully understand your Christmas Eve story, for you see, I too am a retired State Trooper, North Carolina, and experienced the unfortunate responsibility of delivering "death" messages. This responsibility never came easy. I recall meeting an out of state father of a deceased young Marine & taking him to kneel at the very spot on the shoulder of the highway where his son took his last breath. Yes, this never comes easy, but it does come with serving as a State Trooper.

Bob, I want to personally thank you for putting into words things I have felt and thought for a long time. I too am a retired Highway Patrolman from California. And I too have reflected upon all the tragedy and sadness that our jobs have brought us. But I also am blessed to also be able to reflect upon all the truly good side of humanity that I have experienced while on the job. Thanks again, glad we made it to retirement. Enjoy it. We've deserved it. God bless everyone in public service.

God bless you Bob Welsh! 33 years ago this week I was headed home after a snowy shift at the Dayton Post when I came on a accident. As you might guess, no units were available so I started to handle the crash. A few minutes after I started the paperwork a semi ran off the road and hit my car in the rear end. What a ride that was! Not much of a Christmas that year. Hearing your story reminds me of how proud I was to be an Ohio State Trooper!
