Spiff is more of an exploit mechanics to get tons of items or something, not clip through a wall. Think of breaking the game's economy and balance. What this is, is more or less a traditional clip through an object to trigger the loading zone.

Yeah, it saves up to two minutes of a sequence in the game, a sequence that most players seem to not enjoy. It's also never been heard of or done before and the implications of how the skip seems to actually work means that it could be implemented in other places which could shorten speedruns massively.

Its not "layers", i-frames are a normal thing that doesn't require "layers"(and layering is largely a graphical thing for 2d games anyway, not a mechanical thing or used much for 3d beyond UI), the actual cause is the flinch animation changes Snake's hitbox in such a way that it can reach through the door to tap the loading zone behind it, which is what triggers the screen transition

It's actually apparently super easy to pull off, people have figured out that chaff grenades work best as they do minimal damage to you and still trigger it.

@@supermatt87 I mean, I dislike it, hate I suppose means more to some people I used the word for simplicity. As well, a friend told me saying "I dislike _____" sounds robotic. I could say I don't care for but I like plenty of stuff but hardly care for it. I don't like "don't like" because it's like saying I'm not happy, not happy is sad or empty, there are better words than just saying not something. If that makes sense. In regards to the speed running I dislike it because I hate, and I do mean hate, time pressure. It can make diamonds but I've gotten within 10 minutes of an achievement before and it is just so heart breaking. There are those who shoot whiskey and those who enjoy scotch, I am more of an enjoy it slow kind of guy. I like to go places and see things. Skipping a cutscenes in some games is like throwing away half the content. Not getting the collectibles or doing the side quests is like another 25%. There is a time and place for enjoying just parts of a game, like watching your favorite scene from a movie instead of watching the whole thing. I do that often. Also I don't like the idea of the skill behind it being linked to using exploits instead of mastering the intended mechanics. I know it takes skill but exploits just aren't my thing. I'll gladly take my personal record over a record gained by clipping into something and not taking damage.

@@RoosterFloyd you're treating speedruns in the same league as enjoying the game normally, speed runners dont gain pleasure by playing the game again and again, they love the feel in breaking personal or world records of the game. They're not actually playing the video game, they're basically in a running race, and each different video game is a different running course/track. They love running not the track.

@@Smilinturd I understand the mentality. There's why I don't call speed runners dumb or insult them for their hobby... In fact, all hobbies are great, if it makes you happy and gives your life a sorta meaning. I am just speaking personally. I don't hate speed running as a thing I hate speed running as an action when I do it. Although I don't and never will watch a speed run either, I don't hate the audience or the creator.

This is even better: like not even looking for gold in the dried up river but finding it anyways.
