Jerry…As with the other commenters, I am so very glad you are back. As soon as I saw the RU-vid notification, I headed for your channel and hit play. You have been greatly missed. I hope your hearts are healing. May God richly bless you and your loved ones in 2024.
Thank you for including the sad saga of Emmett Till Those brothers didn't have to serve time on earth for what they did to him, they're serving it eternally. As my mother-in-law always said to me: Don't worry, the Lord will take care of it.
I can tell you are a fine southern gentleman Mr. Skinner. I’d just like you to know how much I appreciate your work. I’ll be darned if her grandmother didn’t live a whole century!
"Ode to Billie Joe" is a song from my childhood Jerry. Makes me smile whenever I rediscover it. My mom's name was Bobbie and she spelled it the same. Welcome back cousin!
Another well-done video, Jerry. Always loved Bobbie Gentry’s soulful music. We visited Las Vegas and Bobbie Gentry and Richard Pryor happened to be appearing at the Sahara. My dad took my and my sister’s photo in front of the big sign with their names. Thanks again, Jerry. Hope your daughter is doing well.
Back in 1977 and 1978, I was fortunate enough to have been hired by Bobbie Gentry, to play in her production shows in Las Vegas. In '77, we were at the Fontier Hotel We played two, hour-and-a-half shows per night, 7- nights a week. Al Alvarez conducted the orchestra. Norm Crosby was the commedian on the show. In '78, we were at the Aladdin Hotel and Jim Stafford performed with Bobbie there. Al gambino conducted the orchestra. When the shows at the Aladdin Hotel ended, that was the last time I saw Bobbie. She was a marvelous person to know and her talent was unequalled, for her ability to perform with spectacular professionalism. Her personality was always bright, positive and cheerful. I've never worked for a more wonderful star in the music business than Bobbie Gentry.
I was a rocker back in the 60s, definitely not a Country fan. But I was struck by the beautiful, haunting song Ode to Billy Joe. It was one of those songs that I love to this day. Thank you for this video.
Jerry so nice to have you back. As usual your stories are always a fitting tribute to the people you feature in them. Always done with dignity and respect. Again welcome back, well done sir.
Hi Jerry, it's great to see you back. I hope that 2024 started better for you and your family than 2023 ended. Please give Tammy my best. With love from Millicent AKA Millie
Wow! What a touching, thorough, and heartfelt tribute! Well done, Jerry! I briefly met Ms Gentry after a concert she did with Glen Campbell. I photographed her and Glen backstage. They were both gracious, and insisted on posing for a picture with me. To this day, she is still the most attractive and electric woman I've ever put my arm around. Hope she's happy... and RIP Glen.
I was just talking to my brother today about Bobbie Gentry. I was just a kid in the 70s but man Ill never forget seeing her on TV and listening to her on radio. Super talented and striking good looks. I still live on a dirt road LOL
l remember her well and she is very beautiful.....Thanks Jerry and hope y'all are doing well....lt is very good to see you back ans thanks again 👍 l am in my late 80's but still going..... Shoe🇺🇸
I remember as a kid I had such a crush on this absolutely beautiful woman. She was an amazing talent but I appreciate her more now than back in the day. thanks Jerry
Amazing history and very fine of you to share the legend of such a beautiful voice of a fine young lady. Appreciate people like yourself that keep these beautiful singers alive in modern times.🫶👊💪😀🇺🇸
Mr. Jerry it sure is good seeing you put out a video again. I know you guys have had a bad year with what happened with your Son-in-Law. Good to see you back on RU-vid. !!!!! GOD Bless !!!!! James and Judy Hopper Romans 6:23, Joshua 15:24………
Wow just wow. As a young man I thought I was in love with her. Today I still remind people the significance of the music she wrote. I was introduced to her originally through duets with Glen Cambell. Funny today you remind of her, yet also made me made realize she north of 20 years my senior and still prettier than I Mountain man
I always pour you a cup of Joe when I'm having my mud in the morning Jerry! You Are Family whether we can sit and chat or when we ALL are thinking of you and hoping all is as good as it can be for you and your crew! I often go through your video library MAINLY to hear your voice! It is a steady reminder that I'll be just fine regardless of how crazy life can be for us all! Thank you Mr. Skinner for always keeping your Fan Base Alive in your Soul as we Followers do when thinking of you often! MOO From COW-lumbus, Ohio 👋
Thank you MOO. I never turn down a cup of coffee, so save me a place at your table. You can tell me what parts i am doing wrong and don;t say there is not any. Thank you again my friend. Jerry
Thank you Jerry, for another great documentary about hot dusty, delta days from the 1970s. The USA changed much since the rollout of the internet, but not all of it was for the best. God bless. Hope you have another great video soon.
Mr Skinner..... so nice to have you back. I am so sorry to have learned of the death in your family. May the Lord bless all of you in your time of despair and grant all of you peace.
That's no dirt road, that's a gravel road. I grew up with dirt and gravel roads, bad as a gravel road can be it's a big difference over a dirt road come the rain. Loved Bobby, another great video Jerry.
Southern country girls are just different. The more they wander from their roots, the more they long for the country life. She is blessed to now live the life of a gracious country woman unencumbered from the demands of show business. Health and happiness, Roberta. ❤
My son moved to Grenada Mississippi. Just visted him a few days ago. Visited some of those places you mentioned. Mississipi has some beautiful places. Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful celebration of such a beautiful & talented Woman. I grew up loving her & her music. 🥰 You tell such a fine story, Sir. 🏆
D.E.W. .... I REMEMBER HER FROM THE 70s. FOLK MUSIC SINGING ON A GUITAR 🎸 . 5 OR 9 GUEST SINGING SPOTS ON VARIETY SHOWS. THEN SNAP💥 SHE WAS GONE..... WHAT HAPPEN TO HER ?
YOU'RE BACK, YAY!!! Jerry, you've been sorely missed! I sincerely hope that your dear daughter and your whole family have largely healed from the overwhelming personal events of the past year.🙏 Bobby Gentry... who could ever forget her most famous song, and I had no idea she attended my Alma Mater in L.A.! Another excellent biography with your signature voiceover that is so loved by us all! Looking forward to your next production, Jerry! Cheers for now from your 'pronunciation' friend out West ~ Dany
Ode to Billy Joel and the night the lights went out in Georgia were two of the scariest songs to this little kid of the 70s! Two very different artists! Why is Bobby gentry more enduring? Because the quality and production of her recordings! Here's hoping you and your family are healing!
OK. First thing I will say is that Booby Gentry is gorgeous. Second thing is that - Jerry, you never disappoint. Your documentaries are simply outstanding. Your fans are glad to see you back at it.
I'm the only person I know of who performed her song OTBJ on national TV at that time. I sang it on Country Music Carousel in 1967 It was rerun many times
So happy to see you again my dear friend Jerry. Hope all is well with you. Sure missed you and a lot of prayers for you. Excellent documentary Jerry, so very happy your back. Who loves ya man. Jill and Augie Blase, Winter Springs , Florida.❤
Thank you for that. I always loved the Billy Jo song. The delta country obviously got into her soul. I can feel it although I have never been to the states. Your accent is nice and calming.
Jerry Jerry I have been wondering about you! I read sad news in your family. A big hug to your daughter I know how she feels. I loved this story of beautiful Bobby Gentry, I used to comb my hair like that 😂 I still wear it long. Looking forward for more videos of outstanding people who have graced our world and made a difference ❤ God bless stay well amigo.
Beauty, Brains and a Sensitive Soul. ( like many other Southerns Bobbie had our imaginations on full drive -she was and is special ) Thank you Jerry!- there's a reason I stay connected with you on YT, you are a master story teller!
Mr Skinner, all of your videos are amazing but this has to be your best. Ms Gentry is an amazing lady and singer, and the sound she has produced over the years is soul deep... I have no other way of describing it. Thank you for you hard work and the intense effort you've put in to make these videos. Simply amazing!
I have missed you Jerry & was thinking about you today & here you are! Thank you for this very interesting video. You've answered a lot of questions. I enjoy your voice 😊
Thank you Jerry! Welcome Back, hope youre doing well.❤ Loved Ode to Billy Jo Song & Movie. I had a tween crush on Robby Benson, who starred in the movie with Glynnis O' Conner.😆
