The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I saw Bobbie a few years back. She still has an amazing figure, her hair is very short and silver white color. I asked for an autograph and she replied, "I don't do that anymore."

Seems to me if your willing to perform and be paid you may at least sign a few autographs. If she said that to me I believe that would end any ticket buying for her . Ode to Billy Joe was what I remember anyway, not Jackie DeShanon’s big hit.

@@dougg1165back here is probably my favorite. I had whichever album it was on. It was an 8 track with almost all of the label peeled off, the only part left was where it said Goose Creek Symphony. I used to listen to it all the time until one day I walked in to find my nephew, who was just starting to crawl, setting in the middle of my room with a hugh pile of tape beside him, and more wrapped around him, still pulling tape out of the cartridge, looking at it very intently like he couldn't believe all that tape could be in such a little box😅. Anyway it wasn't till years later that I got to hear Back Here again through the magic of RU-vid!

Bobbie really brings it all home in perhaps her greatest television performance. Her deep soulful delivery is awe inspiring. Her 1971 album ,PatchWork, is a masterpiece finally getting its just due. A deluxe re-issue is in the works from U.M.G. The deluxe re- issue of her 1968 masterpiece ,The Delta Sweete, sold out its first pressing in 48 hours.

She did alot especially in a male dominated industry at the time. She helped forge the way for other women. It was a tough row to plow..but she did. She was very talented and could write, produce and play many instruments. She was a pure artist. She eventually saw the folly of the so called Entertainment business and chose a different path. Check out her performances with Glen Campbell....Great stuff.

i saw this performance when it aired and it is as compelling now as it was then. I loved her soulful heartfelt delivery of But I Can't Get Back and hoped it would appear on an album and of course it did. And as good as the recorded version was, this live version is even better. The complete performance that includes He Made A Woman Out of Me reminded me of the energy and versatility of the show I saw in Vegas. Pure raw talent on display here.

Was wondering if Jody Miller ever did the Ed Sullivan Show? Since she passed away yesterday if she was on the show that they could do a tribute to her and also a tribute to Loretta Lynn who passed away on Tuesday if possible.

@@bak-mariterry5180 I can see where that can confuse a few people with a first name like Jody being a male name and not Jodi or Jodie. Jody Miller had a huge hit in 1965 with "Queen of the House" an answer song to Roger Miller's "King of the Road" and won a Grammy for the song in 1966. She also had a string of Top 10 country hits during the 1970s with her versions of "He's So Fine" and "Baby I'm Yours."

I feel that too. She'd be 79 today. But I bet she's as beautiful and soulful as ever. She choose to live her own life her own way and I so respect that. But it's OK to be wishful and sentimental she kinda gave us so much yet left fans yearning for more. Appreciate what she did share and respect the lady she choose to be too.

The Jackie De Shannon hit tacked to the back of this song might have worked in concert but seemed awkward here. Still, this carried so much of the soul the music of 1969-70 did. This had the feel of some of Elvis Presley's and Neil Diamond's soulful performances of the time.

Honestly the majority of the public disagrees with your bitter assessment. Just in 2018, her box set of all her Capitol Record recordings The Girl from Chickasaw County :The Complete Capitol Masters shocked the recording industry when it stormed out of the gate and sold 20,000 box sets at nearly 100 dollars a piece. It was by far the best critically reviewed box set of 2018 and a 2019 grammy nomination followed for Best Historical Recording.. The L.A Times gushed " Her unrivaled legacy restored"

@@danielrdrown1 In fairness, she recorded a decent number of masterpieces but also inferior versions of hits of the day that so many country and MOR singers did (the Beatle covers come to mind). Still, you wish she'd kept recording and performing; she had at least one more great album left in her. And certainly this song carries some of the power of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Lean On Me, and Let It Be - songs which provided comfort and companionship as the decades changed and more people found themselves dillusioned and abandoned.
