@@lordbacon3936 well bacala sr was quite sadistic when he killed the second dude, whereas in bobby the sons first and only kill he was practically crying when he killed that dude and even then Tony forced him to do it, plus when bobby was with his first wife he was faithful to her and not like the rest of his associates in many regards
@Doom Reverb Let me guess: you were picked on a lot in high school, probably got weekly ass beatings, so now you’re the bad ass picking fights with people you’ll never meet or confront from the comfort and safety of your mom’s basement. Maybe they smoked, maybe they’re making up the stories, but you come across as pathetic to me. Hope things turn around for you some day.
RIP Burt Young. The range of characters he could play from the down on his luck drunk in Rocky, to the old but still deadly gangster in The Sopranos, will always be impressive.
"Tell Tony it will never happen again, or if it does, I'll at least yell 'fore' next time." If there was any bit of guilt going through Bobby Sr's mind, it was gone after that remark.
True he didnt like the comment. But it didnt matter anyway. The order was given and the contract was accepted and nothing he could have said would make it better or worse.
His cough is so realistic, that always when I'm watching this scene, I can't help, but have this weird feeling in my lungs. One of the greatest scenes from whole series.
Yep, we all been there in terms of having some bad cold or flu & coughing so much until our chest hurt while our throat fills up with disgusting phlegm. It's literally one of the best feelings in the world when you get well again.
The Sopranos did a great job of showing how fights to the death aren't flashy or cinematic its just pure desperation and will. This one was great and so was the Tony-Ralphie fight.
They're realistic as shit, they never play dramatic music when someone dies, it's just pure silence and character dialogue. Just like when Chris and Paulie whack Mikey Palmice
You are so right. There was nothing cinematic or balletic - shown in slo-mo - about the murders on this show. They were dirty and ugly and excruciating, the way they should be shown. I've always appreciated that.
BEST KILL in the entire series! The sadistic look on Burt Young’s face after the hit was so intense and real. An old con getting the taste of blood one more time. Pure evil. Pure madness. Loved it.
Can't call it evil. He was killing someone who actually WAS evil and deserved what he got. Did anyone NOT enjoy seeing Sally get his? The look in his face was one of virility. Of primal victory. An old, dying man who felt that strength surge one last time. That's what the cigarette was for. He went toe-to-toe one last time and took down the younger bucks. It was a last taste of his youth, his strength, his power. He died smiling with the adrenalin still coursing through his veins. His was a good death.
Bobby Sr was only in the series briefly but he was one of my favorite parts, it was cosmic gold how he managed to overpower two healthy young men while being just days away from dying of cancer, finally get that rush he missed for years, only to smoke one last cigarette and die 15 minutes later behind the wheel of his car
Bravo. As an asthmatic that used to smoke (yeah, stupid), I can honestly say nearly every film ever that tries to portray a person gasping for air misses by a mile. This guy nails it.
I seriously can't believe Burt didn't win an Emmy for this. I honestly believe that he deliberately contracted pneumonia just to film this scene. There's no way anybody can act like they are sick like this.
And this is one of the greats this guy... I can't act but I'm pretty sure I could fake a cough ... lung cancer... the plague I got plenty of practice as a kid being fake sick ... I can def do that shit for $$
@@brianwells4507 People make stupid ass decisions when they panic or get shocked lol yeah the smart thing to do was to shut up and try get out but leaving your friend to get murdered is kind of fucked up too.
Mustang's instincts are there-his 'Danger' alarm is going off when he turns around and asks if Bobby's alright but he's too overwhelmed with relief at the 'pass'. It's like Henry Hill said in 'Goodfellas', your killers come with smiles on their faces.
Burt Young made those coughs so disturbingly realistic. I live with a lifelong smoker and every time you hear one of those coughing fits, it’s just awful.
He's from the "method acting" era so it wouldn't surprise me that between takes, he was actually inhaling either smoke or something else to induce heavy coughing. If he's doing it just out of acting skills, my hat's off to him because my chest hurts every time I see this scene.
It's amazing how, in just the few scenes at the end of his character's life, it feels like we come out of the end knowing Bobby Sr's entire life story. Like, you can just assume everything about him and what kind of man he is just from the, what, three or four scenes he's in? That's the real strength of the Sopranos, that all these people feel like they have stories even if they don't have a lot of screentime.
im surprised we dont see more people talk about the sadistic/insane laugh and facial expression Bobby Sr does after shooting the guy through the chair, he genuinely enjoyed it very much
The scene was pretty well done. And yes having been around people with advanced pulmonary disease, he was scary and sadly spot on with his facials. In reality, he wouldnt have had the cardio to support that seemingly small exertion. O2 is what fuels our furnaces so to speak. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell... as the saying goes, but oxygen is what we pay the power bill with. Maybe if he was on betablockers and doubled up his does to prevent a heart rate spike, but otherwise he would have folded in real life. That shit is no joke when your lungs arent working 10% reduction in volume and efficiency is hug it will change your world. And hes way past that. But artistic license. Like pitch meetings says, so the movie can happen.
"Or if it does I'll at least yell 'Fore!' next time." The look Bobby Sr gives him is great, it's like this line convinced him Sal was all bullshit and had to go.
@Happy DeLarge well ya see, when you post a comment in a public thread it kinda doesn’t matter who you are or aren’t talking to... because its public... that means anyone with a RU-vid account can reply with there opinion. i hope this information is helpful/ beneficial to your youtube experience... must’ve been confusing/ frustrating for you, to reply to one person and having all these people you weren’t talking to chime in with there bull shit all this time.
@@jasewildheart Nope. The sopranos is my favorite series. I Just thought the way Bacalas character ended up killing his nephew was perfectly brutal. Still the best hit in the show.
@Christopher Briscoe he was also obsessed with death in a weird way. It became obvious when he was seeing faces of death with Janice and he knew what part came next
What a terrific performance from Burt young (better known as paulie in Rocky saga) ! You almost feel the pain with each breath he takes and the ecstasy of a draw from a Marlboro! Nice work Burt.
yea, they should have done a bit more with him, filmed in his little bodega, had Jackie Jr. disrespect the heck out of it. Chris should've been given his soft drinks of choice as tribute too.
Well, the first bullet still went into his head & brain didn't it? It just did not do enough damage to kill him or incapacitate him completely on the spot, but maybe it still did enough damage to his brain or maybe cerebellum to make him a lot weaker, so he was struggling to overpower the old man and tried to reach for his own gun instead. That's what I am thinking at least.
@@ll2240 Having his ear shot off still would have caused a lot of shock and panic. A friend's uncle dropped a hammer action 12 bore (gauge) shotgun into a metal gate, one of the hammers caught and one barrel discharged - it blew his ear clean off! He did not like the experience!
Loved this episode. Between this scene, bacala sr’s coughing and the car accident, this was definitely one of the most brutal episodes in the whole series
Damn, that was some fine acting. I seriously believed Bobby Sr. at every minute with his coughing and wheezing, yet he's still strong enough to fight that guy on the table and finish off the guy hiding behind the chair. Excellent work. Such is the plight of a working man, working until his last breath, even if his job is killing people.
Uncle Bobby went out in a true blaze of glory mafia style. It was a good death for the character and Burt Young was amazing in this. One of the best one and done or short appearances on the show.
Kudos to the sound design team. You have no idea how many layers of sound you just listened to. Terry Thomas Director of Photography Atlanta, Georgia USA
When he said "It won't happen again I swear. And if it does, at least next time I'll yell "fore!" or something, huh?" the look Bobby Sr. gives him is that he instantly knows not only that it was bound to happen again, but that killing him is the right call.
The desperation in the Hispanic character was brilliant, trying to cover himself with a chair for some sort of protection from the bullet knowing it won’t work
I never really understood if Bobby was acting or if he was really sick. However, this is still one of the most insane storylines in The Sopranos. The death and murder that take place in these few episodes is truly stunning.
Lmfao I love the first line he says here “what more fuckin stairs” my tough as nails Irish grandma talked like this stairs are an old persons number one enemy 😂
Baccala/Mustang Sally and Tony/Ralphie are the 2 best kills in the series. No glamorizing the violence or cinematic endings, just primal urges to kill/live
This scene was filmed so well. so tense, thinking Bobby Senior is gonna accidentally fumble and drop the gun, and fudge the hit, etc. So much tension in this scene. I was on the edge of my seat and had to pause it to soak up the excitement/fear
Fyi, if you are ever in a situation like this one, where you cant exactly point the gun at his head, but you have it close anyway, fire a shot off. It's like setting if a small explosion in his ear. But don't ask me any more questions. That's all I gotta say about that.
No shit, loud noise near ear from exploding object make ear go pain pain. /r/iamverybadass material. Stop acting like you are some badass hot shit, your just regular shit.
@@TheWoWisok it was a joke man. Relax. I even quoted jr soprano with "that's all I gotta say about that." People like to make jokes in the comment sections sometimes. You area fucking loser for coming in here acting like a big man. You're not special, you're an annoying little bitch who talks shit online because you're to afraid to say anything in real life.
