Well that doesn't apply to me because no one wants to jam with me cuz I don't know s*** right. Now if they would give me a chance to let me jam with them sit down and learn it I would but by myself my mind would not do it I'm trying the best I can by myself but still it's not good enough I wish it was better but you do what you got to do
A monkey can get on a stage and play in front of 4 people in a 10x10' bar somewhere downtown. A monkey can't get 100 students online via Skype and make more money.
I watched a video of Jake E. Lee explaining how in the day everybody would learn the same song but they all learned it differently, it made each guitar player unique and have their own style instead of a guitar world where there's no variety. Sound advice.
Na the notes are the sane distance apart or they are exactly the same notes in a different place. Nobody thinks there are rules but there are absolutely explanations and understanding theory is extremely powerful..
I miss the 80s , no worries there for me WE just got our first microwave , no cell phones , I'm 53 now and M TV died years ago , I couldn't wait for M TV HEAD BANGERS BALL and all the new metal videos , I recorded them to VHS and or BETA that war wasn't over yet . Thanks for the Video . Play it your way , sounds great man .
The part that grabbed me the most in this video, is where you talk about the guitar players in the crowd and said" I'm the one on the stage" referring to players who are too critical. That statement is very true and powerful. A lot of proficient players who can play note for note end up not playing in bands or live. Either because they can't gel with other players, lack the Grove or right attitude, or are simply afraid of shitting the bed and being harshly critiqued themselves, because that's what they do. This video is caulked full of awesometisity!!
I grew up through the 80’s Metal era and I miss it. It’s great to see some of those bands making a comeback . You play it the the way you feel is comfortable to you. No one should criticize someone’s else’s guitar skills. The difference is, they are down in the audience and you are on stage. There’s a reason for that. It’s easy for someone to watch and say, he’s not playing it right. Keep doing what you do. Keep on Rockin, 🎸🔥👍
This is so cool to see. I'm completely self-taught and when this album came out, there was no RU-vid or anything to show me how to do it and I learned it exactly that way! In the second and third fret position because that's the easiest way to do it and it made the most sense to me. Most natural. Every time I played that for a friend, they look at me strangely like what? Lol.. I'm so glad you posted this, I feel vindicated.
Subscribed. I'm a drummer, but this stuff is still pretty cool to me. Also, you seem like a real humble dude who has some serious chops. Keep kicking ass.
I'm really glad you said played in a different position but the same notes. I'm the exact same kinda player, I play by ear, but I always figure songs out in the "wrong" position, BUT I'm playing the correct notes. So for this thank you
Well said. We used to play a lot of Rush & Police & the funnest times we’re when we would improvise small sections & do some add-ons. Even more fun!🤘🏼🎸🔥
Dude, you are AWESOME. I love the honesty. I play too, but am so far from a pro, I appreciate what you’re saying. And now I have an easier way to play one of my favorite songs! Thanks!
Explained like a true musician. I think a lot of players forget about octaves and that they are in multiple places on the neck. I put up a cover video of this song and I always played it like Warren did. But as you stated, even Warren doesn't play it the same every show he does. To be honest, I totally forgot about that other position on the neck where it can be played and it's literally the same notes, same chords, just different position. I can see where playing it that way makes it much easier to sing as well. Also, one other key thing said here is make it your own. I humbly agree.
Sounds good. You have a great attitude too. Thanks for helping to keep the amazing music from that era alive like it deserves. An absolutely underrated era and underrated genre, “hair metal”. Call them what you want but all the bands you mentioned are legends and changed the landscape of rock and roll for the better forever. Long live 80’s metal 🤘🏻
Cool lesson Bobby, Ty. You r definitely very talented to play both ends of the spectrum n so many excellent cover bands ! God bless you n keep up the great work your doing. You never have to work a day in the life if your doing what you truly love n we’re born to do!
Ha, man you have amazing wisdom! It’s rare to see someone just lay it bare and call it out with such raw honesty - excellent way to describe it all. And the best part, YOU get to play all that music LIVE that we enjoy so much! Must be insanely fun. Loved your version, too, can’t wait to try it - that Warren chord stretch is tough!
Awesome job. I'm a beginner, and want to learn this riff which is way too difficult for me. However, the shortcuts which sound just as great to me are just what the doctor ordered. Outstanding job. Thank you!!!
Ramble on and on...I love it..this is a really good educational informative video.every time you strum that guitar it reminds me of that ratt song ,,,the morning after...love that intro into that song.and your guitar sound really nails that sound to perfection.i had a friend growing up that nailed the ratt sound .he would tune to the album exactly, and would play every last nite identical without mistep along with the album.non stop each side..with his amp slightly louder which forced people who didn't like or listen to ratt to hear the beauty and brilliance of the guitars on the albums.you heard it in ways you never had .I would listen for hours .ratt is my best alltime favorite to play along tuned with band....
Young man Boston based older Rock drummer boy ,Bill says keep it fun no guilt . Giving it your all the best that you can . Guys like yourself when we play out make me look AND sound great . I can never say thank you enough nor be able to let you know it's wonderful to Rock like she ain't got no backbone . Much love and health to you. Anytime in East Coast area . I will jam like I am possessed LMBO peace.
My daughter is learning guitar. I love this song but her hands are just not ready for the "real way" to play this after only 5 months. I am pretty confident she can gets this way in a few hours. Thanks a lot Eddie.
I was born in 83' but I geek out to the Hair Metal! You mentioned being in a RATT and Dokken tribute bands...both George and Warren are my 2 Favorite! You earned a subscribe from the first video
This is the most real, honest and true video I have ever seen on RU-vid regarding guitar playing. Especially playin in cover bands doin what you love. Nice job. Good luck to you and hope to find you on tour sometime, somewhere!!
Very cool man! I have small hands and short fingers. I’m always trying to find authentic sounding ways to play riffs with ridiculous stretches. Sweet guitar!
Sup Eddie? Danny here FB friend. Just came across your video. Back when I did the cover/tribute thing I cant count how many times I have said the same thing about playing these songs. I completely know the feeling when note for note guys are standing there picking apart what you are playing but by the end of the set they have found a whole new respect for what you are doing. Much love Rock on Brutha!!!!!!!
This is the first time I’ve came across your video. I enjoyed watching you play. I’m not a guitar player. I’m a drummer at heart, but your long hair caught my attention watching your video you were great I love your basic tactics. You used like a normal person sitting across talking to me. I’ve been wanting to do some RU-vid videos, but I was worried about the haters out there, but watching you makes me wanna say F___ all of them and just have a good time making them. Happy New Year’s, and thanks to people like you that are keeping rock ‘n’ roll alive!
Grew up in the 80's and I love this. Just like a car guys. If you are truly into cars you admire them all. Same goes for guitar players there's always a different way of playing rock and roll.
I absolutely respect this musicians candour. He just speaks from the heart, no pretense. Thank you for sharing your talent, and giving such a positive perspective on the joy of just playing guitar (for the individual). I applaud you...and yes, your Axe is very bad ass. Cheers
i dont have the talent for musical instruments, but i can say trying to keep up with warren & robin would present a challenge.in there day, they were on top of their game.NO DOUBTS!!! i love old ratt music.
I agree. You can put way too much time into learning note for note for the 1% that might notice. Like someone else said, those of us in the old school crowd didn't pick up music videos that show how to play stuff. We had to play everything by ear. We didn't slow it down to learn it either. Just get it as close as you can and try to have fun with it. Life is hard enough. By the way, playing something in an easier position is actually smarter, in my rule book.
Up in the middle of the night, here in Yokohama. Yup Japan! Grew up in the 80’s in Honolulu Hi…. Was a Headbangers ball fan back in the late 80’s. Doing random searches for Poison, Ratt, and Crue stuff, you popped up. Cool stuff! ( was/ kind of still am a bass player. No gigging now though. Just on the couch or studio jams with co-workers.) Thanks, hope to see your bands once we can safely travel back to the states. Aloha! Paul.
I was 16 when Invasion of Your Privacy came out & was in a band. Back then I had to rewind tapes, listen with headphones and really take time to breakdown leads or in this case a riff. I knew it was drop D from previously learning about that tuning cover VH songs from Fair Warning and also Ratts Lack of Communication. So learning by ear and a little from the MTV video back then, I played it pretty much like DeMartini played it.
Oh p.s. I had a friend and his brother that lived and played out there for years. Bands were, DZ Stanz and ChiggerRed. Ok cool. Glad I found your channel. Fan from Alabama !!
Your humility only precedes your humbleness, if you cant enjoy the fact that anyone at all is playing music, then there is something definitely wrong with you!! Noone hardly never picks up an instrument and only wants to play it half-ass!! We play 100% percent to the best of OUR abilities!!! My dad told me all the time" Son, if they sont like animals or music! , something is wrong them!!! And my dad never lied to me! Thank you for being so kind!
Stumbled across your video kind of by accident. I’m glad I did. Very cool stuff. Good for you brother. I play in a GnR tribute band in Dallas called Rocket Queen DFW. You’re always gonna have the haters, but you’re always going to have the chicks too. And that’s what I’m after the chicks. Keep doing what you’re doing bro. Cheers
There's no such thing as the right way to Play, what is in your heart your soul at the moment let the shredding begin I've been playing 50+ yrs thanks Mr Dall
The original is heavier and thicker than the thinner sounding, but more convenient chords. I do agree with what you said. Real talk, good information. Cheers!
Great riff and who'd of thunk it? Never tried it in that position but it sounds good.Love that guitar too the first time I saw snakeskin was on Randy's guitar strap.I miss those days back in the 80s because we just don't get the same euphoria off music we got off bands and guitar players we did back then. These riffs and songs will never die.
Brother, I’m a fan of Ratt and a fellow guitar player as well. I think how you play it is just fine and your right, same damn notes!!! Love your perspective of what’s best for live performance. Good on you man.. love that you’re doing what all you’ve done and doing. Keep up the good work bro .. Thank you for the video 🤘🏼🤘🏼
There's always an easier way to play those Killer 80's songs . I have been doing it since the late 80's and it's helped my playing and on stage performance . Thanks and do more please especially some Dokken , Lynch is my Guitar Hero ever since Tooth & Nail !!
I did the same thing when I would learn a cover. I would find my own revised and simplified way of achieving an 80% repro. It helps when playing live, because sometimes you have to clear your plate a little to make sure you don't fail. And I learned a lot about guitar coming up with easy alternatives. I like what you did!
