mr. jone would probably be amazed at the way people try to learn golf today with all the high tech gizmos and expensive equipment. i think he would be for it if it grows the game.
Isn't it funny that nobody putts like this today? Feet together, open stance, yes a reverse overlapping grip like the video, major wrist hinge to provide the power. Perhaps Snedeker is closest. Maybe it's decline was due to the heavier, very little loft, putter heads used recently. I've heard commentators claim this stroke works best on slower greens, but not with todays amped up standards.
Jones is the best golfer ever. Number 1. Feats that Nicklaus, Palmer, or Woods never came close. Many great golfers putted with feet close together. This is a paradox, for it actually teaches the golfer NOT to move his body ! A wider stance actually slightly promotes body movement. Thus, paradoxical. The narrow stance also puts more feel in the hands, and the putter head seems slightly heavier. Jones is no. 1 !!! Hogan 2nd. Nicklaus 3rd. Palmer 4th. Woods 5th. !!
I caddies for Win Hoyt - starter of the Walter J. Walter Travis Never Died!
He already won the us open in 23 and his putting style was feet together with both arms bent. Yes Travis helped him but his style was set already. To say without Travis one time short lesson allowed jones to win 12 more majors is hardly believable. I know you are a golf historian but i have read extensively also. Please watch the video of jones putting on the green at his us open win in 23, feet together, arms bent and a smooth stroke. His 7 lean years were due mostly to his age, he was very young when he won his first major in 23, more experience equal more majors.
