Woodstock '69 -
Janis Joplin appeared at Woodstock in the late hours of Saturday, August 16, 1969. She performed until the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17. Despite her reportedly not even knowing of the festival's existence, the Woodstock promoters were advertising her as a headliner. She thus became one of the main attractions of the historic concert.
Joplin informed her band that they would be performing at the concert as if it were just another gig. When she and the band were flown in by helicopter with the pregnant Joan Baez and her mother from a nearby motel to the festival site and Joplin saw the enormous crowd, she instantly became incredibly nervous and giddy. Upon landing and getting off the helicopter, Joplin was approached by reporters asking her questions. She deferred them to Caserta as she was too excited to speak.

Tesla said it great also you know it's not what you got it's what you give, it's not the life you choose but the life you live. Life takes us all in different directions. But don't judge, don't let anyone steal your joy but most of all love everyone, you don't have to like their ways but love them.

I am a 68 year old Canadian and I saw Janis perform at Woodstock '69, and yes I was a hippie. I missed the first day of the concert and the rest (including the rain) was awesome. I feel truly blessed to have been there to witness such a spectacular event and see Janis and the other performers putting us into a frenzy enjoying their music. Obviously, the best music time of my life and there will never be another Woodstock '69 and that is sad. One thing we do have going for us "old hippies" today is a girl named Courtney Hadwin who is on Americas Got Talent, and I can definitely see a lot of Janis in her. RIP Janis.....you will never be forgotten in this crazy musical world we now live in.

I was there and loved every minute, there was more respect there than what we have today, Janis was so high she just blended in, she even walked in the crowd before performing asking people if they had enough water as she was playing late at night and damn she played until the sun rose...wild... and you know we all slept fine...would never give up my days of being born in 1950 EVER...you guys have NO idea...Live aid Montreal hell of a ride to, Elvis, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Irish Rovers etc etc...anybody who was somebody we seen for almost FREE...you can have your shit music of today paying thousands to listen to people with NO voice because of Auto Tune...

"Bobby" McGee" was first recorded by Kris Kristofferson, and covered by the late Janis Joplin & The Full Tilt Boogie Band in 1970... (which became the very last hit song before she passed away in September, 1970) Janis's version soared to the top of the charts in 1971. R.I.P. Janis

I grew up in the 60's and most of us were not aware that people like Joe Cocker and Janis Joplin would become legends. Most of us were not fortunate enough to attend their concerts either and there was little television coverage. Only 45's. Now, looking back on these old videos, I can see that much of our generation also missed out on their true greatness when they were alive.

When I think about JJ, and Woodstock, its seems like another life time now. She always gave you a great show, and put her heart into every performance. It was a time when America was at the peak of its greatness, but we also had a war going on that was unpopular among young people especially. We were in our prime, and no one wanted to die in some Godforsaken land, that we knew nothing about, but many did. I was one of the lucky ones who went, and made it back. 58 thousand of my fellow men didn't. RIP old friends, and brave men. I never saw a group of guys who were so proud to live, and so proud to die, than the ones in my platoon.

THANK YOU daniel occoner , and to all of the brave young men who selflessly gave up their lives in order to provide us w/ a blanket of freedom. Your valor & sacrifice will never be forgotten- not yours, nor any other soldier who has given of themselves for the sake of their fellow man. The American people should have honored the Vietnam Vets to a higher standing than they do (today's) basketball players - sadly... Despite the War ( at the time ), I'm sure it must have been a GREAT TIME to be alive! Keep ROCKIN #SOLDIER :)

Trinity, I always felt sorry for the Vietnam soldiers who came home. Not so much myself, I was OK, but many were spit upon, and disrespected, for doing what their country asked them to do. I have a lot less respect for the ones who ran to Canada. Don't hate the soldier, hate the war.

"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson and originally performed by Roger Miller. A posthumously released version by Janis Joplin topped the U.S. singles chart in 1971. Kris Kristoffersen, quote: "When I heard Janis Joplin's version for the first time, I just sat there and cried. That wasn't a song...it was an experience."

Really wish I wasn't born almost thirty years after Woodstock. God, no one understands what I would have given to be apart of the hippie movement and to have been at Woodstock. There's a certain charm to all of it that makes it all feel nostalgic, even when you weren't apart of it. I saw David Crosby live solo about 2 months ago, probably the closest I'll ever come to that dream lol.

Thanks for the footage. Yes, I was there...had no conception of what it was gonna be like until I got there...unreal. What an experience. Never forget Janis and Grace Slick on the stage together...they didn't sing together...they were contemplating the probabilities of electrical equipment vs. rain.

Janis was a special person. My dad knew her well when he was 15 and watched her beach house in Monterey when she was on tour. He’s gone now. I should’ve asked him more about her and wrote it all down.

I was 15 in 69, great year , I left school , ran away with the fair, spent some time locked up ( not good ) , So now as I listen to stuff like this with a glass of Bushmills and an empty pipe I think to myself ,What an end to probably what was the best era of music ever

About the time Janis took the stage, I was heading down I-80 towards Ohio, on Sat ,August 16th-with my husband and two young kids, heading for his first job out of college.. We were approaching Lincoln Nebr, when two Old, wildly painted VW vans pasted us, obviously headed for Woodstock! I can see them giving us the peace sign over and over, to the delight of our kids!! I remember it like it was yesterday1

James I know man......I know! There has never before nor will there ever again be an event that was free that so many of the greatest musicians in the world at the time, came and gave everything they had for no profit, no gain, just because they loved the people and the people loved them. I don't think it ever happened before and never will again!!

I was ripped off...only 12 when Woodstock happened...the best of everything, never to be again, all those rockers in one place, what a weekend it was....now most are singin' in heaven but what a gift they gave us....when music was raw & true...if only I had been 6 or 7 yrs. older.
