There was a movie released in the '80s called "Blue Velvet" directed by David Lynch and starred Isabella Rossellini, Kyle MacLachlan, and Dennis Hopper. I haven't seen the film in years, but I do remember it was quite a strange movie. This song was featured in the movie.
You probably didn’t remember “Roses Are Red” cause it wasn’t a very exciting song. I remember you didn’t care for it that much lol. “Blue Velvet” is a far superior song. Bernie Wayne, the original songwriter, was inspired to write it after a trip to Virginia where he caught sight of a woman wearing a velvet blue dress at a hotel party. they had a brief holiday romance. You can tell in the lyrics how much he misses her, and it’s an extremely well-written song. Been a long time since I did my review on this one, but I still remember that story for some reason. My score was 7/10, but I’d probably give it an 8 today.
So Pre Beatles early 1960's, pre President Kennedy Assassination, known as the Teen idol and Surfin' music era, Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons, Ricky Nelson was singing on his parents sitcom the Adventures f Ozzie and Harriet. Girl groups were just starting to come to more prominence on American Radio/TV as well. We did have the dance crazes, and the main teen show was still American Bandstand. No bowl cut length long hair yet, just crew cuts, and greater type hair (Teddy Boy hair in England?). I was 7 years old, what did I know? I was more concerned about whether Lassie [on TV] would come home or not. When the Beatles showed up in America 6 months later, it was like going from black and white to Color film like in the 1939 famous film, The Wizard of Oz.
