Bobcat drive belt and tensioner repair. If your machine lost all hydraulics and coding for low charge pressure then your drive belt may have failed. Sometimes the tensioner bearings fail and will lock up and cause the drive belt to break.

@11:02, Very important step to make sure that bracket rotates completely where it's touching that 'pendulum' part, and pull it down a hair past that. If working with mechanism inside the Loader, it might be good to wear gloves, otherwise you might slice your pinky open on the battery box tray on the bottom if these wrenches slip during that rat trap maneuver. Note: Most torque wrenches are not "Bi-Directional" where you can get a torque read in both directions. When you are trying to put the 40 lbs of pressure, your garden variety Torque wrench will not give you the 'click' you are waiting for. You will need a Harbor Freight Pittsburg torque wrench that is "reversable" or something better if you want to make sure it's torqued correctly. I found the best thing to do is just like shown here, make sure that bracket rotates where it can't rotate any more and the belt is tight. Otherwise the belt will start slipping, it will make a loud clicking/rattling noise when you strain the hydraulics like when turning and you will have to re-tighten. If you get the belt on right, your machine should feel 'peppy', like it has got some power back.

Great video. I have a question. My S550 is very similar to this setup. However, my tensioner appears to be frozen/stuck to the hollow shaft. I loosen the mounting/pivot bolt and the tensioner will barely rotate even with a breaker bar. Is this common? I am considering heating up the hollow shaft, but am concerned. Any ideas?

@toddtwenter3242
@toddtwenter3242 Год назад
On my 763 we find that we cannot keep tension on the belt even with a new tensioner. There were two belt lengths for 763's one is too short and the other is too long. We drilled and tapped a new hole to make it work. However, after just a few minutes we lose tension. You've seen many more of these than we have do you think we would have a chance of mounting the new style tensioner to the old style of housing? It looks like a single threaded hole and a roll pin. The adjustment and tensioning look much more forgiving. I think we could buy one from salvage.

Great video, as always, thank you. I kinda cringed when you held the tensioner up by finger tightening that bolt, and removed the belt. I was thinking, this thing is gonna snap down right on his fingers! LOL Glad it didn't. I believe and trust your skills.......But from my general experience, that just did not LOOK right. I guessing it must have a wedge factor in it versus a smooth travel that would require more torque on the bolt.
@tetradgroup

Haha, no you're exactly right I'm always scared to put my fingers near that tensioner. It does wedge itself in there pretty tightly but again that would definitely leave a mark if it came loose.

Brady, What is your opinion on the belt drive Bobcat used for a long time (what like 90s-2020?, until the R series) vs direct drive they used to use (my 843 for example), and pretty much any other manufacturer? When the R-series marketing came out I remember a video where Bobcat acted like they re-invented the wheel by using direct drive instead of a belt. Which made me laugh since no one else (that I can think of) used(s) a belt and Bobcat itself used to have direct drive. Just curious what your thoughts are. Keep the awesome videos coming!
@chargermopar

When the universal joint failed on a friend's 843 it sheared off the shaft. Not a fun repair either. The belt allowed a transverse engine mount to simplify maintenance. The original M series like my 610 used a variable belt drive.

Have you ever had any of the bolts loosen during normal operation and cause a squeaking? sometimes under heavy/ med operation i'll lose all hydraulic function and but the motor revs will stay the same, then when i back off and let it idle down they'll come back, but it'll do this infrequently. think its a slipping belt? I'm going to dismantle it this week and try to figure it out using these videos, but I was just wondering if theres anything in particular I should be looking for while I'm in there other than a bad pulley bearing or bad belt? 2015 t750 kubota engine btw.
