A few hours in, Bode’s almost over-the-top charisma literally put the thought in my head “this is the type of guy the CIA would seek out as an asset.” Didn’t think anything more of it. I wasn’t incredibly shocked at the reveal he was a plant, but my jaw dropped when he used the force 😂 one of the best video game plot twists of the decade in my opinion!

My mouth literally hung open for that first fight with Bode. Like everyone else, I saw the betrayal coming, but not the Jedi thing. I swear I was in more shock than even Cal was when Bode used the force push thing. Literal chills, the acting, the music, the stakes, everything about that reveal was perfect. Which is exactly why I think Bode's inevitable betrayal was so obvious. I think the devs telegraphed his treachery in order to disguise his Jedi past. It's almost a wink and a nod to the players and fans like "Yes! You are correct about him, AND! Watch this!" I know stories like this are not improv but one of the most important rules to improv theater is "yes AND", never deny something someone has already established, but affirm it and BUILD upon it.

This is probably the only recent star wars twist that has genuinely surprised me while still making sense. The way the game gives you the info is perfect - during all the fights you as the player are in the same frame of mind as cal is, making the whole "embracing the darkness" feel warranted. But after, the contest is a much needed addition. Thanks for the help!

Bode’s betrayal caught me so off guard. I was genuinely pissed at him the entire chase/boss battle. After the Cere interlude, and after learning more about him I started feeling really bad because I could understand where he’s coming from. I was still mad at him up until the game ended (which may be because I was playing on GM), but I felt justified. Then I heard the force echo of Bode and Kata singing Ghost Star and it made me just kinda sit there…

Bode was honestly geniusly written. I love how many people predicted that he would betray us, but the thing that nobody saw coming was that he was a surviving Jedi as well. The Jedi survivor here is not Cal Kestis. It’s Bode Akuna. What started out as simply being a spy, resulted in a beautiful friendship to the point where he even saw a cow as a brother to him. And was genuinely reconsidering what he was doing, and was going to join him on Tanalorr. But after learning they wanted to use it as a base for the Hidden Path which could potentially get the Empire involved, he panicked and attacked them. He betrayed those closest to him and hurt innocent people all so his daughter could have a better life. Almost every time he talks, he can hear agony and sadness in his voice for what he did, he was not happy with the fact that he had to hurt those closest to him, but believed he had to for his daughter. My emotions were all over the place with this guys writing, and I absolutely loved it. Jedi Survivor is a 10/10 for me.

Since the first mission I could see his betrayal coming from a mile away. He's a brand new guy to join the rebellion and conviniently ends up on our mission, he is conviniently the only other survivor of the mission, he conviniently flies away with the imperials, he conviniently manages to 'escape' them and join us. The whole game through I was waiting for the betrayal and thinking Cal is an absolute mug for trusting him, but I never thought he would be a former Jedi.

Bode was my favorite part honestly: I loved his fighting style and motivations. I was surprised by the betrayal, I thought he was going to be a boring Han Solo clone in the trailer and he got more interesting in play through only to become my favorite part of the game with his force push reveal. ( after Merrin obviously. Merrin is amazing) I found his boss fight a lot of fun

A friend of mine said he suspected Bode cause he was hitting “familiar tropes,” even with that I was SHOCKED when he hit Cal with the Force Push. I’m waiting for this friend to get to that part of the game so I can get his reaction!

Bode was a man consumed by fear following his wife’s death. He let that fear dictate his actions and lacked hope and faith for a better future for his daughter. The was no reason he couldn’t be safe on Tanalor with his daughter and the Hidden Path but he only saw other people as threats to his daughter or her security.

Bode is literally an Imperial agent who infiltrated the Hidden Path. He's proof that the Empire could follow them, and destroy them. His actions might not have been good, but his fear was quite rational. Hard to convince an Imperial spy that got to Tanalorr that an Imperial spy could never get to Tanalorr.

It is true, but Bode was a major control freak and the hidden path was an unknown he didn’t want to tolerate. And to be fair, the ISB were able to infiltrate him in Cals crew with relative ease, so they might’ve done the same with the hidden path. Doesn’t excuse his actions, but still.

I commented on another person's video that I never really trusted Bode even before the game came out, but during my play through, I let my guard down for awhile and really thought he was on Cal's side, I just never got that little nagging warning out of the back of my head. What tipped me off was something completely unrelated though. It was when Bode saluted Cal in the swamp, falling backwards off a cliff and jetpacking away safely. I thought to myself "Bode's a smooth criminal... OHHHHHHH. OH NO." Seeing this video really helps me understand how tormented over this betrayal Bode was. My one complaint about the entire story of the game is that it sort of felt like Bode's betrayal was a last minute addition to pad the run time of the game a tiny bit, like Geran WAS the true big bad of the game. Other than that, I loved the story and liked the twist. The second game is probably even better than the first one which is amazing to me.

Bode's betrayal is largely Cal's fault. Up until that point, Bode was admittedly fine with letting Cere, Merwin, Greez, BD, and Cal live on Tanalorr with him and Kata. But Cal just can't stop fighting the Empire. Everyone else in the game left his side at one point because he couldn't let it go, and Bode was no exception. The moment Cal became set on using Tanalorr as a Hidden Path base, Bode knew he had to cut him out. The Hidden Path can be infiltrated by the Empire, and Bode is proof of that; sooner or later, the Imperials would reach Tanalorr and burn it to the ground.

@@rippera45 I agree and disagree. I think the Empire eventually infiltrating the Hidden Path and laying siege to Tanalorr is EXACTLY where the next game will BEGIN. I do not think that Bode's betrayal was Cal's fault. Yes, Bode was willing to share Tanalorr with the crew of the Mantis, but MINUS Cere. Bode was ALWAYS going to betray them, that was his entire mission, find the Hidden Path, and draw out Cere for Vader. Even if Cal hadn't decided to use Tanalorr as a base for the Path and new Jedi training, Bode would have betrayed them. He truly loved Cal and the crew and would have let them join him on Tanalorr after the Empire wiped out the Path and killed Cere, but at that point, the Mantis crew never would have gone for it. So yes, Cal made a mistake pushing to use Tanalorr for the Path, but it was not the reason Bode betrayed them. He was a spy from the very start, he joined Saw's crew for the purpose of getting to Cal, and using Cal to get to Cere.

Right? lol. When I first heard we were going to get a companion, I was skeptical because someone helping a Jedi, having his daughter be in risk for working with a Jedi. And I started to wonder how long it'd be until his daughter's life would be threatened sorta how they did in Kenobi or something. And maybe Bode betray Cal to strike a deal for his daughter which kinda is how the story ends up going anyways. But as things went on, I started having a gut feeling, like another commenter said, maybe he would be the one likeable guy to die. Because after seeing the second fight with Dagan, Bode jump in to save Cal but survived as well, I had a feeling that Bode would die in the third fight when he said he was coming to help. And when he didn't I was like oh no. The games not over. He's not coming with Cal right away, Cal leaving tDagan's saber behind and then them focusing on it, made it clear that my suspicions were correct all along but never suspected him to be a Jedi himself other than the fact he saw the force hallucination which I wasn't sure was only something Jedi could see or not.

@John Also I think you're right about the beginning of the next game definitely would make it like a I told you so, and maybe, just maybe that start a rift between an older Kata and Cal asking why didn't they listen to her dad about not bringing the Path, as it already have been shown to us that the Jedi Order already has been attacked before on Tanalorr. Which I think how you talked about his mission, through the force echos and the cutscene of Bode contemplating calling the empire to Jeddah. And trying to have a small crew go to Tanalorr early. Makes me believe that he had either already made up his mind or was still struggling which is would explain why and was urging for Cal to leave with him to spare Cal, Merrin, and Greez, from having to go through all that plays out, like you said his mission was for Cere to die, not Cal exactly as Bode never mentioned Cal's name only Cere's for Vader to come, at least not yet. Cere for Kata's safety, and for knowledge of the inquisitor that killed his wife.

I started having suspicions, from the moment he wanted to look for a "manual" of the Tanalorr compass and some looks he couldn't hold in at times. And, the "only good Inquisitor is a dead Inquisitor..." specifying he had history with them. I thought he knew a someone close to him, who was Force- sensitive, maybe his wife. But him being a Jedi...🤯

I guess it's made sense why the imperial pressence were getting stronger in Koboh each time the story progress. Because basically Bode Akuna is a double agent for the imperial. He monitored every single Cal's move ever since he arrived in Koboh. The imperial could've send the Inquisitor to kill Cal to made Bode Akuna twist become more obvious yet again, all of the Inquisitors were busy for the moment to hunt down Obi Wan and any other surviving Jedi (yes, this game take place at the same year and at the same time as Kenobi tv show with Cere Vs Vader duel take place right after the tv show Finale) which is also why we never saw Inquistitors troops again until near end game.

I heard that some believe that the game takes place before the series. One of the reasons is that the Purge Troopers in the game wear the same armor from Fallen Order, but in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the Purge Troopers wear different armor.

I was wondering why I missing some info in my databank thanks. I think a cool story dlc for this game (if they decide to do one) could be like a 2-4 hour story about Cal tracking down the Inquisitor that killed Bode’s wife in fear of them coming for his daughter. It would fill the void of the plot hole, and they could introduce inquisitor outfit for Cal again, also they could create a new inquisitor (I think they let the identity ambiguous for that reason for future SW content), that’ll be a substantial dlc worth 9.99 imo. Because I already have 4 planets 100% in this game, 49/53 achievements, a full tactical guide, and 89% full databank I need more lmao.

@@Bushido89 Yeah I understand What you mean for sure, but personally I’m hoping it’s a different inquisitor all together like the orange twi’lek from Kenobi or the GI, or someone new entirely. Either way to me it’s something perfect for a medium length dlc. Hopefully they look into telling that story in a dlc, rather than having to buy another book or waiting however man years got the next game just to have it only be explained and not shown. Bode is more confusing, because Cal was bringing the old Jedi out of Bode, but at the same time Bode was just trying to protect his daughter. If cal brought that jedi back from Bode, imagine how the story could of ended with Bode living

When I first started the story and met Bode, I thought one or two things throughout the game since it looked like Bode was going to be a very good friend to Cal. 1. He was going to get killed in action by one of the antagonists in front of Cal, hinting Cal to use the Dark Side. Or 2. Bode was working deep undercover as an Imperial agent, betray Cal towards the end of the game, kill a few of Cal's close friends, etc. On an unrelated side note, however, I didn't think Cordova would still be alive. Considering he was only a holoprojection throughout Cal's journey in Fallen Order, pretty much hinting the fact he was likely killed during or shortly after the Jedi Purge. I was extremely in a lot of joy seeing him in person. But having Bode kill him the way he did, NOT cool. RIP, Eno Cordova.

I remember the moment after we defeat the high republic fallen jedi (sorry am bad with names) and cal says that we can trained the rebel army in that planet, bode response told me everything Now i didn't predict he was an undercover agent all along just that he wanted the planet to be for as little amount of people as possible and he would do anything to asure the planet would remain a secret from both the rebels and the empire, he would have happily gone to it with cal and his crew if cal idea was just to chill in it, but hosting the army, making trips from it and getting ready for a war, the empire would eventually figure it out. After learning he was working for a subsection of the empire its pretty clear he was ready to bail with the group without notice if cal wanted to settle down in that planet, instead he betrayes both sides and tries to take it for himself

Only thing I'd add was it wasn't going to be the rebel army there, only the Hidden Path. They're a separate group that just deals with refugees from the Empire, he said they could reestablish the archives and train Jedi there yes, but their plan wasn't to build a rebel army but a sanctuary from the Empire. Dagan Geera was the one with a plan to build an army there and then attack the Empire after it was built up.

I started to suspect him at the start of the game Things that gave his betrayal away were: - He was somehow permitted by a Imperial Security Droid to go with Cal. - He didn't say May the Force Be With you back - Somehow didn't get shot down by all those TIE Fighers in both the start of the game and at the observatory - He saw a Force Vision, and then tried to "look for a manual" which is completely out of character. Also this one is weird, but I noticed how his assists and attacks weren't as detailed as Merrin's At the Lukerhulk I really wanted to believe that he wasn't sus, because it felt like they were actually getting close.

I found it interesting during the final fight with Dagan, Bode and Dagan lock in on each other for a couple seconds staring at each other before Dagan overpowers him ands says 'pathetic'. Almost feels like there was a force-type interaction where Dagan caught on to Bode's abilities. Pure speculation but I got that vibe

I was convinced through most of the story that Bode was gonna die in a big heroic sacrifice, so when he betrays you instead I was floored. Also, thank so much for the guide, several of these were in spots where I got all the collectibles during the playthrough so I had no reason to go back, so you saved me from having to scour the entire map!

I knew early in the game Bode was going to betray you. Out of all your different partners through the game, he’s the only one who would go off on his own for significant periods of time leaving you to fend for yourself. I remember thinking at one point “this guy is gonna stab me in the back”. Even though the betrayal was obvious, I still really enjoyed his story arc. Also, him being a Jedi all along was a great surprise I didn’t see coming, so that added some depth to his and Cal’s showdown. I really enjoyed this game. My only problem with it was the damn bounties being bugged. I’m stuck at 11, so the completionist part of me is going crazy.

Man the bounty pucks/collection bugs is a giant gripe of mine too. I am literally missing only 1 bounty puck for true 100% and I have recordings of every puck registering and yet my count is still 17/18. I'll just have to look at 99% on my save files forever unless I do another run from scratch :( Hope you're able to get some of those fixed on your file with a future patch!

Cal entertaining the idea of using Tanalorr as a base of operations instead of a secret haven gave the betrayal away for me considering the motivations we all knew Bode had, let alone his actual reaction to said idea, but him being a part of the ISB was out of left field and him being a jedi was out of the ballpark for me.

After Bode caused the death of Cere and shot Cordova, I was fully ready to kill him and after learning a bit more about him I started feeling bad but was still happy when Cal shot him... but that damn lullaby of Bode and Kata singing washed all of that away and now I miss Bode lol

He needed to be stopped but it's hard to not feel bad for him once you learn more about how he got to that point. Such a conflicted character, if only he had someone like Cal to ride withand give him hope before getting tangled up with the ISB things could have been so different

I think the part where Bode went off to record a bedtime story for Kata was the most obvious point where a betrayal was upcoming. It just seemed to be a bit out of place at that time. But overall, it is a solid storyline and plot twist with the "Jedi Survivor" being Bode Akuna rather than Cal Kestis.

Have you checked upstairs in Pyloon's as well? Turgle is a bit weird because he will move around VS most other characters that stay in one spot inside. There are some characters who will permanently depart, however

Lol I am so sorry, I was trying to complete the databank as fast as I could and have a habit of dashing like a madman while searching. Managed to figure it out but 13 (464) and 14 (465) are shown in opposite order which is confusing when you've collected one and not the other but I got there. Finally. 100% complete. Haha!

I actually got the feeling right at meeting Bode, something about his early dialogs. He seemed almost to good to be true and brotherlike. He was a very good character much better than Mirrin. And he was a bit under used.I got the feeling that he would either die tragicly or betray us. He seemed like a guy who would let no one get between him and Kata.

I absolutely loved the story, furthermore, Bode grew on me as a character and his betrayal worked within the story really well. The only issue I take is that Bode sort of just goes stupid mode at the very end and it sort of compromises the story. He almost kills his daughter on 2 separate occasions and just refuses to listen to anyone and can’t seem to comprehend a scenario where he and his daughter are left alone on the planet.

Awesome video. Extremely helpful… except where the hell is denviks office? Every echo shows where to fast travel and where to go then all of a sudden it’s like “go to denviks office to find the next one” with no direction. I had to run around that entire place all over again just to find it

The very beginning of the game I didn't trust Bode when he broke off in their escape off Coruscant, I was like this dude is working for someone he has to be!! He was the only one to survive that and he was new to the crew. I didn't buy it, what I didn't see coming was him being a former jedi that twist was a shock to me!

Yeah the jedi part was a huge shock that I think very few could ever have reasonably forseen. There were definitely signs that something was off with him in general though

I really like the idea of Crashed but functional clone wars tech in Star Wars games. I really hope we get a sort of story-driven RTS Star Wars game where you can pretty much alter the timeline by what you do. Pick a starting area, build up, then OH LOOK, you stumbled upon a few old CIS caches, or crashes ships - and a COMPLETE LUCREHULK - with the hangar section attached to teh core, floating in space or crashed on a planet, but largely intact, like it crashed in shallow water. Imagine jsut going "I am gonna rebuild the CIS and take revenge on the Empire!" Or go with a criminal angle, using CIS droids and ships as teh core for your criminal enterprise - basically the Bedlam Raiders - only instead of largely being trapped on a planet, expand to other systems carefully and avoid the attention of the Empire so a fleet of ISDs dont plop into your skyline. Would be fun. An RTS RPG or maybe closer to Empire at War or Stellaris, but still more story to it.

This helps understand Bode a little bit at least...lol I loved the story in Fallen Order. I had a bunch of issues with Jedi Survivor though. Dagen just turning without having more input on what's happening in the Galaxy was a bit bizzare. And Bodes betrayal is a bit out of place and weird. I was super excited to see Master Cordova, then to just have him killed off was a bizzare choice. Death adds or takes away in a story plot, I just think it was misused in Survivor.... So many cool things could have happened, but that's that.... Other then that, the game play etc etc etc etc etc is outstanding, but those few bits of the story will always just be..... well.... Blaaaaaa....lol Have a great day !!! :-)

I could see the betrayal coming and was waiting for any moment he reveals he is ISB exactly. I did not predict him being a force user however. The entire time on Tanalorr I called him a psycho path. And when the funeral was happening I said "Oh look, 2 jedis and a psycho path". I lost a good deal of sympathy for him. I believe it was a great decision to create these force echos. He was ultimately blinded and obsessed about keeping his daughter safe so much so that even though that red light saber was red from Dagan, had he built his own light saber on Tanalorr, it would have been a red blade as well. He claimed to try and save his daughter but by the time he reached Tanalorr he was too mentally unstable to care for his daughter in my opinion even if no one else made it to Tanalorr. You can see how unwell he was right before he discovers you with his daughter on Tanalorr. So I never regained sympathy for him. I think of it as it is, as Bode chose to screw everyone over, in the process driving himself to insanity and we mercy killed him. Tl;dr Bode's still an asshat in my opinion and even through the messages (which I thank the developers doing) I take relief in his death

It still always leaves me wondering, what if he had some sort of support system to lean on like Cal has been so fortunate to have in his journey. Bode was screwed over and made a lap dog to the ISB after his wife was killed by the inquisitors. Who knows how he would have turned out. That's why I see him as such a tragic character. He wasn't inherently evil but he got backed into a corner enough times to let the dark side take him over. Love the force echos

@@unclemumble something that holds a huge weight in my mind on Bode is that in the one force echo with Denvik and Bode, Denvik asks Bode what he wants before he calls the guards. This implies that no one on the base knew Bode was there, so Bode snuck in and made first contact. Bode took that gamble to become the lap dog first. Then with how Bode could sneak around Nova Garon, I find it unlikely that Bode couldn't find some way at some point to sneak his daughter off that rock and double cross Denvik without killing Cal and everyone in the process. Your question about how Bode would turn out if he had a support system is an incredible hypothetical to think about. I had not given their support system's thought before and that could very well have changed everything. Had Bode met Cal a little earlier, it is pretty reasonable to imagine Bode being a loyal ally who could bring his intelligence to the table. Maybe even becoming another mentor to Cal.

so does anyone know why my character databank is only at 97% when ive platinumed and got all the data for the characters ive recorded? who am i missing??

I would do a manual check through your databank and see what entries are missing based on the number. If it's a place e.g. Koboh Ramblers Reach you should be able to revisit the area and find the missing entries. It's usually scans or echos. The other could be characters that you're missing because you haven't spoken to people in Pyloon's enough to trigger databank updating dialogues. Moran needs to be talked to like 15-20 times to finish his entries. Let me know if you find the numbers on any specific ones and I can look them up on my file that's 100%

I knew there was something wrong with bode when he refused to respond with "may the force be with you" in the early scenes. It was solidified when the group got ambushed by imperials. Everthing involving him was just too convenient Edit: when the original starting group was ambushed. Not the big reveal at the end

I thought he may have been a traitor at the beginning of the game when I seen he lived but then was like maybe just maybe Bode got lucky but after defeating Dagan and on Jedha you can hear doubt in his voice and see he is acting differently and right there I was like he is going to do something

Yeah tells became way more apparent after the fight with Dagan. I like that there was enough fishy about him to suspect something but nothing to give away the fact that he was a jedi

There is one Force Echo that you missed. It's in the room where you first meet Denvik. There is a second Force Echo which show that Vader killed Denvik

That's not actually part of Bode's story, that's just another force echo tied to Nova Garon. There are a few that spawn when you return after finishing the main story mission. One in the final hangar, 1 in a hallway with saber marks on the ground, another before you get to Bode's quarters where Cal goes rage mode, and the final being the Denvik one you mentioned. They are insightful echos though!

Hmm that's strange, sorry to hear it's not registering. If you have a backup save from not too long before you started collecting the echos you could maybe revert to that and see if it registers when you pick it up again? The only other thing I can think of is maybe you picked up a different force echo in Denvik's office thinking it was 455? There are a few that spawn all in the same area there. Otherwise your save is sadly bugged :( I also have a bugged bounty puck and I have recordings of every puck showing up on my screen it just didn't count one of them

I didn’t trust Bode as soon as we first left Coruscant. Not in the sense that he would betray our protagonists, and certainly not that he was force sensitive or a former Jedi, but in that he just seemed like “Man” who was awfully close to a plethora of things that I, as Cal or another character in the situation, would find highly sensitive or esoteric.

Leave it to Disney Star Wars to make a father who would do literally anything, including sacrificing his own soul, to protect his daughter the main villain, while Cal embraces the Dark Side out of sheer vengeance but pays no price. But to answer the question, I did suspect a betrayal by Bode, mainly because he was way too friendly for a mercenary.

9:45 ...Yes. That is what Attachment means. That is *literally* the definition that Star Wars uses. Bode condemned a massive number of people out of selfishness. He never cared about Kata. Just as Anakin never cared about Padme. They were both "things" that gave them pleasure. When they stopped giving them pleasure, Bode and Anakin attacked Kata and Padme. And his actions look pretty evil to his victims.
