I want to thank thank you, Enigma. I had been BEGGING you to do this scene for ages...well a very long time. This scene is amazing and easily ranks among one of my favorites for acting. David Morrissey NAILS this character and blows the comic version away.. Season 3 was peak The Walking Dead. This is when everyone was watching and I firmly believe The Governors character was a huge reason. Again, thank you for covering this scene.

The Governor shows his dominance in that last bit. He sees Rick isn't budging, he is a wall, the only emotion was that micro twitch when speaking about loved ones. So the Governor drops....the Governor and becomes Mr. Blake. He tells a very real and emotional story that vexes him greatly. The second Rick grabs that glass, the look on Governors face...he knows he has him....right there he figured him out 100% and didn't care that he had to be so open to do so. MAN I loved that character. The comic version was so 1 dimensional. The TV version was amazingly complex. David Morrisey is an amazing actor.

@@gionatanayele I'm sorry I don't understand what point your trying to make. Not being rude, I mean no disrespect at ALL, just kinda lost what your saying. I was saying how Morriseys portrayal was totally different from the comic counterpart, like the show runners recreated the character specifically for him and I LOVED his portrayal. I read the comics, many times. So, again, what is the point your making? (Sorry if this seems rude, honestly) Edit: If it was the "one dimensional" comment I meant that as he almost immediately goes "main villain" and is basically a stock bad guy, the seriousness and cruelty aside the character was written quite 1 dimensional imo.

I love how they found each other 3 different times and each time they were essentially different people due to the trauma they had to go through. When Morgan gets to Alexandria their state of minds are basically swapped as Rick was the untrusting bloodthirsty man that Morgan was here and Morgan was the sane level headed one.

I was shocked to find out that the actor playing The Governor, David Morrissey, is from the UK. This has to be the best American Southern accent that I've ever heard from a Brit, hands down. I don't even think an American could've done it better. Unless that American was from Northern Georgia. A truly phenomenal actor.

One thing, not body language but cinematography, that is really well done is the lighting. Ricks right eye is cast in shadow for most of the scene, mimicking the governors eyepatch. Showing they are both leaders of similar strength, power, and capability. Very well shot and acted. As well as the backgrounds, the Govs is dark and wooden, with the only light being on his left side in the cabin, where Ricks background lighting mimics this also but his light is brighter and also on his left with the open door.

5:54-6:48 One of my favorite moments in the walking dead by far. Top 3 even. Holy shit. I can not express how normal this scene gets to be. Even for a little bit. Knowing full-well the battle that will ensue. "What did she want?..." *oof* I get chills! Very good writing!!! People say after the farm, or before the farm, etc... the walking dead's writing suffers. And to their credit, it's here and there. So when you get a wake-up call like this, of gentlemen...killers...killer-gentlemen getting to be human for just a second. 🥰 This scene brings me back to everything they've lost & become up until now, (in this scene). Two men who wanted nothing more than the other dead. "What did she want?...." *shivers* I can talk about this for ages, but YES superb acting in this scene and imo can hell younger actors finding their motivation and beats they're looking for. 10/10

@asimplewizard Год назад
I don't think TWD writing is as bad as people say, people just like to feel smart by calling popular things bad. There's so many incredible moments and characters, incredible actors through the whole show, and great villains. Sure, some arcs weren't as good as others, and some of the filler (like the well, or when Daryl and Carol have to flip the van upside down) are really bad, but they're completely inconsequential to the plot. I always wonder what TV shows they're comparing it to when they call it bad. The Breaking Bad universe? Oh, the literal best tv show ever written? Wow yeah ... I guess it isn't breaking bad. 😂
@eddysegafan6655
@eddysegafan6655 Год назад
@@asimplewizard if I had to guess I'd have thought some, if not half, of the hate (or criticism) for the writing comes after S1 during S2 when Gimple took over for Frank for directing. I know a lot of people who didn't like the change in directing and everything that came with it,, (including the drama & lawsuits for said change.) Sometimes it's the director's fault, other times it could be the actors for not being invested enough which you could blame it on the writers or the director for not having a full vision for what they want. Or yeah it could be the writers. I think what was mind-boggling for me was they had the comics to base the story off of, and where they went with that creatively-speaking I've usually always appreciated; because of what the actors also brought to the table. My biggest walking-off point was when Rick left...like why even continue? Even Carl. Judith just didn't fit right for me. I know plenty of other people who have walked off for less. When Glenn died, or Hershel, etc...going back to my main point, I do know a lot of people were upset when Scott Gimple took over. The vision seemed to change a bit - but you'd have to appreciate the nuance to what Frank brought in S1 to see it. You know, it's like when there was noticeably more filler, it doesn't always mean it was "bad" perse...just how much of it do you want to show the audience before the next transition into getting things going again. I like Avatar: The Last Airbender, for instance here. There was a decent amount of filler. But it was so fun and stemmed into what the characters might or might not get into with the next episode-- it just became...more fun lol. Not taking the show too seriously at times almost like taking the cast to a Waterpark. But when you need certain moments to hit hard, the show didn't falter. (See uncle Iroh's & Zuko's journey). That Brave soldier boy, filler episode with Iroh always gets me...

Good video. If I may suggest there is a very good underrated sci fi tv show called Farscape and in it the actors do a fine job at their body language for representing their characters in many certain situations. The man who plays Crichton and the woman who played Aeryn did a fantastic job displaying and adapting the emotions and mindsets of their characters in many many Farscape scenes like when they broke up or when they are reunited. Scorpius too is a great fantastic villain and anti villain. Good acting.

At this point in time, the Governor was not only a murderer, but psychotic. ESPECIALLY after the attack on Woodbury. He is able act so calmly and confidently because he is a monster, and Rick is not. Rick has had to do what he's had to do only to protect his group, he hasn't killed anyone that wasn't a threat to his people. The Governor, actively murderers people to take what they have. However, he thinks his actions are justifed because he too is providing, albeit in a much different way. Point of the story is, Rick just isn't at that point in his development yet. If this was Rick in Season 5, this would be a MUCH different conversation. (If there were ever a conversation at all) So Rick being a bit timid around The Governor isn't because he's weak, it's simply because he hasn't gone through what he is about to go through just yet. That being said, he still holds strong. He knows he's outnumbered and outgunned, he is a little afraid of the Governor, but that doesn't mean he is a coward. "It's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the size of the fight in the dog."

You see this the major flaw with this kind of analysis. These people are acting out a scene. Neither of them the caliber of actor who could take into account their "micro expressions." Or any of the other bullshit that gets babbled about. Body language is very real and not the same for every person. People do things gor different reasons. So when this gets used against someone in determining guilt or innocence in place of hard evidence it becomes dangerous. This wasn't popular until that idiotic TV show came out where Tim Roth tries to do a Sherlock Holmes thing which has been done to death and honestly it seems like most body language "experts" ate doing the same thing.
