STORYLINE:
U-S Consulate staff were taken to a grave site in southern Karachi on Friday afternoon believed to contain the dismembered remains of Daniel Pearl.
Police were led to grave site, late on Thursday, by three new suspects in the kidnapping of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who identified the body as that of Pearl's.
The two American consular officials refused to make any comment when they left the site barely one hour after arriving.
A team of forensic experts has already visited the grave site in Gadap, a neighbourhood located almost 30 kilometres (18 miles) from the centre of this sprawling city of 14 (m) million people.
The body was dug up late on Thursday, but was not removed in order to protect the site and the evidence.
Earlier on Friday Pakistan's presidential spokesman said police were "quite sure" that the body they found in southern Karachi late Thursday is that of Pearl, who disappeared four months ago while researching links to international terrorism in the city.
