That last guys with the highest grip on the grip machine was actually really small. Only 175, very natty looking, but most of those guys were pretty jacked, and couldn't close the number 1 or struggled to. That gym is known for tons of guys on juice though. Those grippers are pretty humbling, especially if you don't have good technique or much experience.

@chazzthaspazz4475 I'm a biggish dude, I bought 100lbs, 150lbs and 200lbs. I did 100lbs working the door for a few weeks I'd rep them for 12 then flip them around and rep them for 12 and switch hands. 150lb ones I am using now I'll do 5-7 reps in each hand and switch. The 200lb one I can close with my right hand a couple times fresh but can't quite close with the left yet. I'll get to repping it by years end.

How does grip training on these grippers carry over to powerlifting?
@Pivitrix
@Pivitrix 5 месяцев назад
@@elafzal5866 They might help abit with deadlift if you are struggling to hold onto the bar, however, you could probably find a better exercise to specifically train static strength for that purpose. Otherwise, i have no idea, i wouldn't think there is much carry over at all, but i'm no expert nor am i a powerlifter. I do think they helped me as a bodybuilder who doesn't want to use straps though, grip is no longer a weakpoint/problem and i get less pumped, much less weakness and fatigue in my hands throughout the workout.(Although my grip would probably have caught up by itself given enough time)
@treyburro5525
@treyburro5525 5 месяцев назад
@elafzal5866 well for deadlifts in particular it helps with your grip strength, a lot of guys can't hold the bad despite having the body strength to complete the lift. It also just strengthens your hands, boxers and doormen have been doing it for ages, makes breaking your hands from punching less likely. Studies seem to indicate it doesn't help climbers much though.

@larrywheels I like these videos. I am not in anywhere the condition these bodybuilders are, but seeing them doing this made me dig out my COC grippers and even though its been a few months I still can close the #2. No chance at the moment on my #3 with the way I have been laying off, but I was suffering with an elbow issue from too much grip work so I gave it a break for 6 months or so. Glad I did not regress too much. My therapy that I invented for myself that seems to have helped me keep some of my grip strength has been to carry around a fairly medium weight kettlebell 35lb or so while walking around the house. It really has helped my tendons recover and I think also has improved my grip in ways that using a gripper wasn’t doing.

a lot of it comes down to technique. as larry mentioned in the video you gotta use your fingertips on one end or you're at a big mechanical disadvantage for the second half of the squeeze. most of these guys were doing it completely wrong
@billj4525
@billj4525 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, but in all fairness to those guys it takes a lot of practice to close those, and technique is very important. Larry has a ton of experience with those, and other grip movements in general. They're really hard to close and pretty humbling, especially if you haven't done it. So many of those guys couldn't even close the 1, or struggled like hell to.

I’m a Powerlifter and grip is trained with mostly doing heavy deadlifts with double overhand grip. Most gym bros are lifting for hypertrophy and never use their grip and then even use straps for easy the most easy of deadlifts. Weird how a strong looking dude can ignore entirely forearms and finger strength.
@Dave-lr2wo
@Dave-lr2wo 8 месяцев назад
I close the 1 with L and R easily, for reps, clicking them. There isn't all that much technique, it's not that tricky. I close the 3 to about 1mm short of touching. I've never trained grip but have always had a very strong grip. I'm not particularly big -- 5-10, 200.
@helmuthvonmoltke5518
@helmuthvonmoltke5518 7 месяцев назад
@@TDeslipI don't think that's entirely true. Most bodybuilders/ powerlifters just don't need to specifically train crushing grip strength as support grip is much more important for almost all lifts.

You know a farmer who worked hard with his hands prying stone with a spear and knocking down a post with a sledgehammer. Lumberjacks or loggers who are used to chopping with an ax and driving heavy chainsaws probably also have good cuts in their fists.

I really don't like how inaccurate either the grippers or the dynamometers are. The highest I got on my GripX dynamometer was 80.5 kg (177.5 lbs) but I can do like 5-10 reps of 200 lbs grippers. Here 18:53 Larry gets 120 kg (264.6 lbs) but here 12:55 Larry easily squeezes COC #3 which is 280 lbs, and he could've repped a couple.
@dudea3378
@dudea3378 3 месяца назад
The dynos are accurate. The grippers have to be measured at a specific point, so they will differ depending on your technique due to leverage. The farther away from the spring, the more leverage you have so the easier it gets.

kinda surprising that all the bodybuliding didn't really make their grip strong. in the previous video guys who didnt evne look like they worked out where getting higher numbers. @ModernNeandertal
@ModernNeandertal 9 месяцев назад
Grip strength in older folks supposedly correlates to health. Those grippers can be flipped over also. I do grip closes both ways. Larry gives good advice to warm up with light grippers first because those tendons in the fingers can get hurt and they take a long time to heal. Get the blood flowing in the fingers just like any other part of the body you hit with weight training. Besides, if you try to go straight to a hard gripper and fail it is most likely that you might not fail if you warm up with less tough grippers before hitting the harder gripper. Nobody in their right mind tries to bench their max without first warming up with progressively higher weight otherwise your rotators will tear.
@billj4525
@billj4525 26 дней назад
I agree. I work with grippers and always work my way up slow. I don't even start on the number 1 without warming my fingers up for a few minutes first. Grip correlates a lot to health, especially in older people.

For sure, but it also depends on technique. If you have really bad technique you might not be able to close it even if you do have an amazing grip. So it really depends, since there a lot of factors with those grippers. If you do close it your first try I would agree though.

I'm surprised that they hardly can close the #1. Bought a #1 some years ago. Could close it right away, and I'm sure I still can. I never went to the gym. I was, and still am, working in an office. @@10pm63 I would say that you had a really good grip if you managed to do that right away. I've had many friends try the #1, and very few succeed to close it. But then again, it's a significant difference between a good setup and just to close it picking it up straight from the table.
