that's what the fuss is all about , classic jet sounds with smoke , amazing beautiful sleek design ( times have changed ) , everything just perfect , beauty is in the eye of the beholder
footage from 1998/99
including some rare footage of the ill fated 5N-VRG

Thank you so much for the wonderful memories your vids trigger! Watching the "Seven Oh's" reminds me of a lot of little quirks and techniques, especially with all the cross-wind ops. The 707's had VERY effective reverse-thrust which was certainly welcome for a heavy or high-speed landing. The DC-8's were designed to use reverse-thrust in flight, but the 707's were not. You couldn't dip the wing into the wind too much (like you could with the DC-8's) or you could snatch a pod right off the wing. The widely-spaced main gear was great once you got it on the ground. You can always tell when the crew throws out all the flaps (on short final) as the N1 increases sharply and you really get the dark smoke pouring out. The pure-jet JT-4's gave you almost instant thrust. The JT-3D's were too slow to spool-up so you really ran the thrust up there when going to full flaps. If you had to TOGA the N1 was already cranked-up. I would love to see a straight -320 in ops, but, most of them were gone by the mid-1980's. They were beautiful and FAST. There is a great rainy cross-wind take-off about (2:45) a white 320C with "ACS" on the tail. This guy is very heavy, uses most of the concrete, rotates and almost as soon as the mains get off the ground he weather-vanes it into the wind. Did a great job, especially when a gust got under his right wing. I'm sure that got his attention so close to the ground!

Unedited JT3D sound and 707 action. Doesn't get much better than that! Thank you.

Love the Tarom (all white 707) departure in nasty weather: rolling take-off and rotation with the northerly crosswind ! And of course all the others wow
