Every time I get on a plane I say, the tray table behind should have a screen that projects a dash cam so we can see the plane land from the cock pit. I was once lucky enough to sit in cock pit of a Lear jet and the take off and landing was spectacular. My father had a plane and loved that too.

747 was my go to plane on flight simulator 04 Century of flight. It took me about 100 tries, I finally landed the 747 on Campbell River BCs 5000 ft runway. Stopped right on the numbers. The Screenshot was gorgeous. Bad fire Feb first that computer is forever gone. am crybaby whaaaa I did manage to retrieve my pilots logbook 600 hours, and old pilot licence scorched but fine. Siggh

I love the final ten feet when pilot gently resists the gravity force, to make contact almost imperceptible, seamless. There’s still a lot of vibration on impact, but I love how gentle he makes it.

Not sure of the numbers. In Canada I believe it's one in 16,000 holds a Pilot License. I'm ex private pilot 600 hours. I'd venture the numbers have changed, there's hardly any Civilian aircraft in our once busy local airstrip.

landing in Hong Kong these days is child's play. Before 1998, on the only Kai Tak track, certification was required. In the NW > SW direction we skimmed the roofs of the buildings at 800 feet, and if the sea was rough the runway was under the spray

The views a pilot can enjoy everyday are just unbelievable! One can see why Hong Kong is land scarce not because it's small - it isn't for a city - but because its so hilly!

I flew on a B747 into Hong Kong back in 1985 and landed at the old airport called Kai Tak International Airport- as you descended there were buildings on both sides- strange as you are coming in to see that there are buildings not far away and higher than you- came in around 6pm their time and could see the close proximity of these buildings to the approach path - understand why they built the new airport away from the closeness of residential areas 👍🏿🇦🇺

@@mariagrant3706 Yes I remember the plane having to make that big last second right hand turn once it got to that mountain with the big red checkerboard sign on it. And you could actually see the people inside those tall buildings as you were getting ready to land. I prefer landing at the new HK International airport. Flew in there twice in 2012 and 2019. Nice and easy landing on Cathay Pacific!!!!! 👍

+kevin O its a common problem caused by the capture rate difference and the display screen scanning rate , which makes it "flashing" in the video. You won't notice any flashed if you see the displays with your own eye.

Most people would not remember the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport, there was only one runway, the IGS approach to runway 13 was always breathtaking no matter how many times you did it! Just look for it here.

There was a square painted on a big rock as you approached Kai Tak and the idea was to count to three when you saw the square and then turn right. Flying past people's windows on the approach was a hoot! Occasionally planes would not brake in time and end up in the water.

Damn, all those shiny brand new 747-8Fs and here we are inside a 747-400F with CRT avionics screens, analog autopilot dials and mechanical backup instruments. But at least the video and Hong Kong are awesome.

I was in Honk Kong several times during the late '80s. I was convinced that if everyone came down and out of all the high rise buildings that there wouldn't be enough space on the ground for everyone to stand.

I flew on Boeing 747-400 twice. Once in 2007 on Delta going to Japan. And the 2nd time on Cathay Pacific going to Hong Kong in 2016. Incredible planes, and fabulous food & service

@@valentinoferrara9736 The pilot was using manual flying all along. It was not the autopilot disengaging. It's the spoilers being deployed. Before landing, pilots will set the spoilers to "armed" mode, which makes it deploy when the wheels touch the ground. When the spoilers automatically deploy, the noises will be heard in the cockpit.

I take it the controls screens are not actually flickering but static the shutter speed setting of recorder different from panels that make for the effect of strobing

As challenging as any landing is, this was a piece of cake compared to the old Kai Tak Hong Kong airport approach and landing. You literally had to point the aircraft at a 'chequerboard' - painted red and white squares on a rocky outcrop, just before impact, make a hard right turn and if you've got it right the runway will appear right in front! Managed to do this successfully a few times on Flight Sim 74-4 but when you get it wrong it's wrong spectacularly; go around, crash or in the sea the only options.
