VP-BLK Flew in for a touch and go, landed then departed back to KLAS.
On this day at the former George AFB, I was treated to a 707, L-1011, 747SP & a DC-10 (didn't record it) all within 1 hr.

@aviationlba747
@aviationlba747 3 года назад
@@philmontejano5971 The 747SP was developed on request of Pan Am and Iran Air, whom both wanted to fly to and from the USA and the Middle East. To increase the range, the aircraft needed to be made lighter, and so they decreased the length of the fuselage. This also increased the aircraft’s agility.

Sands 747SP's must be the last operational P/W JT9D 747's left in America, that engine makes some of the best sounds at takeoff power!!

@aviationlba747
@aviationlba747 3 года назад
This aircraft, VP-BLK, was not the aircraft that was damaged by the storm. It was Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s OTHER 747SP, VQ-BMS, that was parked in a maintenance hangar when a hurricane swept through the area, damaging her significantly.

The owner is the Las Vegas Sands Corporation last time I checked. But,In 2007 it was for sale by Sands Corporation. I don’t know if they’re still the owners. It’s in a VIP configuration.

The Las Vegas Sands Corporation still own this aircraft, VP-BLK. But, their other 747SP, VQ-BMS was recently written off. She was parked in a maintenance hangar when a hurricane swept through the area, damaging her significantly.

How are V1, Vr speeds calculated on touch and gos?
@ZK-APA
@ZK-APA 5 лет назад
Phil Montejano use the same speeds as before.
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 2 года назад
@@ZK-APA not really, because our speed bugs are set for landing. We don’t use V1 because we don’t start at a stand still. We basically don’t get below 100 knots. So we don’t need to accelerate much. We basically use our landing ref speed and add 20 knots to rotate at.

You can see the future VC-25B (Air Force One) pair in the background at 0:42 on either side of the two checkerboard water towers. Look for the white tails to left and right of the United tail.
@joeylantis22
@joeylantis22 6 лет назад
Great eye! So weird to think that the future president's plane is just sitting unused in the desert. You'd expect them to get a plane right off of the assembly line. It makes sense to get one that's notbeing used right now to save money. Is that a 747-8 correct?
@Mick_92
@Mick_92 4 года назад
@@joeylantis22 Yes, they're both 747-8i's. And while not new off the assembly line, these plnes were never delivered to the airline that had purchased them (which went bankrupt) so they may as well be. And yeah, this was done as an opportunity to cut costs.
