I still don't get how anyone can comprehend what the hell is going on with all the chatter and rapid fire instructions that pilots have to process. Pilots are amazingly talented people, it's a mystery to me why there aren't more air crashes considering all the stuff the pilots have to deal with. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, but there is no way I could ever do the job these highly skilled men and women do. Big thanks to all the great pilots, their crews and atc personnel.

You can hear him refer to the SNTNA2 departure when contacting Norcal. Most heavies on transatlantic flights use this SID. They take off on the 28's and climb on runway heading to the coast, then make a turn to the north, and then to the east over the golden gate bridge. It's a really beautiful and scenic departure.

Usually in San Fransisco, only heavies(A330,340,B777,747.etc) and Super(A380) are allowed to depart and land on 28R.The lighter Jets use different runways to avoid wake turbulence. When an A380 lands, the tower will hold the departing jet for a minute so that the turbulence sets down. After take off, the aircrafts are made to contact NORCAL departure and as this flight is Eastbound(Frankfurt,Paris,London,Zurich.etc), it is instructed to change from runway heading to right heading after reaching 3000' and made to line up with the Golden gate bridge,then another right turn near Golden gate bridge to pass across it. Then the aircraft is made to reach FL130(if no traffic above the aircraft) before leaving NORCAL departure. Then it is made to reach Cruising altitude without any restrictions after entering next airspace.Then,it's a long flight to Europe.

@ryan8374
@ryan8374 4 года назад
That had to be edited. If I remember correctly, following time on approach is minimum 2 minutes.
@BollocksUtwat
@BollocksUtwat 4 года назад
@@ryan8374 It was clearly edited if you look at changes in lighting. Approach in trail minimums is not prescribed as 2 minutes though, instead it'll be minimum radar separation and then separation on the runway, so a prior arrival has to vacate the runway before the next arrival crosses the threshold. 3 miles is the common minimum separation (down to 2.5 at some larger airports) on the same approach so at normal VREF of 140-160 knots that's roughly 1-2 minutes in trail because they are rarely right at minimum separation. The 777 is departing on what is usually an arrival only runway in this config so he has to wait longer, probably because he wants the extra runway length for his takeoff performance. That also explain why he has to stay level at 3000 longer after departure due to other traffic that departed the crossing runway.

Great video! Regarding the ATC exchanges at 3:22 and 4:39, the captain (and the ramp controller in the first example) use the wrong callsign (AF082 rather than AF085). Its rather like how you don't need to spell a whole word to know that arplne probably means airplane, but you know for certain it means that when its int he context of a discussion about airplanes. Hearing things is the same, but also this is a recording. The actual audio in cockpit is probably higher quality than what you hear here.

Jas Tran you get used to it... you learn to tune out everything that isn’t pertinent and focus on / pick up on things you need to

@Katie Giles it can be fairly costly to get a commercial pilots license. But if money isn't an issue, than why not.

@Katie Giles depends on what you look like. Katie is a fat girls name so probably not.

The downtown San Francisco pointer is slightly off.. you highlighted the Pier 39/Fisherman’s Wharf/Ghiradelli Square area .. still a beautiful view!
