Hi all, I'm a PMDG tech team member and real life 737 pilot. It doesn't happen very often that a completly new checklist including memory items is introduced on an aircraft that's already centuries old.
It did happen though, a few weeks ago we recieved the latest version of the QRH and it includes a new procedure: The Engine Fire on the Ground Non Normal Checklist (NNC), including related memory items.
In this video I'll explain what the checklist is about, why we had to introduce the change and how it works.

These tutorials are not designed as absolute beginner tutorials. It is expected that the viewer already has basic experience with airliners and knows the basics how to operate an aircraft.
Instead these tutorials will focus on the 737NG as an aircraft and the particularities of how to operate it.

Thanks for the video, good job. I believe there is only one carrier who have made the Engine Fire on th Ground Checklist as memory items, standard Boeing is read and do. There is a lot of confusion on this subject for many airlines as to which checklist to follow. For example, one low cost carrier, that the checklist above is from, states that for an RTO the Engine Fire or Severe Damage or Seperation checklist is followed whilst if you are on the taxiway, the Engine Fire on The Ground checklist is followed. Boeing doesn't stipulate this so you need to follow your company guidance. Thanks again for filming this.

Nicely explained. Interestingly (or not, depending on your point of view) our equivalent one on the 777 is identical, except that it is a reference items only checklist with no memory items….

I can't believe. Is it real latest NNC “ Engine fire on the ground”

Very good video. Thank you. I believe latest checklist is not a memory items(depending on operator). Just sharing on what I've observed, the FSTD is having a slight glitch. The "LEFT BOTTLE DISCHARGED" light should illuminate one or two seconds after the Fire Switch has been rotated and hold and the crew are supposed to wait for this light to illuminate before moving towards next items/actions to ensure the fire extinguisher bottle has been discharged positively. Or else, the other bottle should be selected. Many occasions during training where the crew didn't "Rotate to stop and hold for 1 sec" the Fire Switch properly ended up the fire bottle didn't discharge. This FSTD has shown that the Left Bottle Discharge light illuminated almost at the same time when the fire is out. It may be a coincidence but could lead to negative training.

@A330Driver Год назад
Hi, in our full flight sims it can take some more time for the light to illuminate as well. What you describe is how we did it before as well, but Boeing changes things in light of the Chicago engine fire and evacuation and now the procedure is aimed a bit more at speed than before in order to get people out quicker if necessary.

@@A330Driver yes, you are correct. It was explained in the FOTB. Good video on your part. On the Fire Bottle Discharge light, it is faster(approx around 1 to 3 sec) on the FSTD which I'm attached with. That's why I pointed out as it might be a glitch on your FFS.

@@A330Driver Do you have a link for the incident referred as 'Chicago engine fire and evacuation'?

ı have a question for you guys. do you know the reason why boeing changed discharging one fire bottle instead of discharging 2 fire bottle as a memory item in engine fire checklist. it was discharging two bottles interval 30 seconds as a memeory items before but now it is only dicharging one bottle as a memory . To discharge second bottle you need to make read and do.

where can i download checklist like this one?
@receperbenlioglu4134
@receperbenlioglu4134 Год назад
You make an evacuation decision without using the second bottle?? Evacuation is a serious action and can cause injury to the passengers. What if the second bottle will extinguish the fire and eliminate the need for evacuation?? This does not make sense.
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Год назад
This is Boeing SOP. Using the second bottle on the ground will hamper the suppression system unless a significant amount of time is in between the two discharges. This is time that you'll loose for your evacuation in case it's needed. Keep in mind, your aircraft is only guaranteed to keep passengers and crew safe for 90 seconds, thereafter an outside fire could enter the inside. Waiting 30 seconds for the second bottle and another ten to evaluate if it works would use up a significant amount of that time.

@@A330Driver Thanks for your reply. I understand the new Boeing procedure, but I can't say I understand the reasoning for it. I still have concerns about starting evacuation without using the second bottle because evacuation will definitely cause some injuries which could be serious in some cases.

Does the Parking Brake stop the aircraft whilst taxiing?
@minhpham7481
@minhpham7481 2 года назад
No, plane will continue to taxi out to runway and proceeds to take off.
@JosephSeabourne
@JosephSeabourne 2 года назад
@@minhpham7481 plane would absolutely not take off with the parking brake set 😂 OP: Yes, it would stop the aircraft taxiing, although to engage the park brake you need to apply the toe brakes anyway I believe.

could i ask one question? We had differrent steps before new QRH. There was choose item, tailpipe fire or not tailpipe fire in QRH. but not now could you explain the backgound reason?
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Год назад
We didn't have that in my company. I guess yours tried to avoid killing and engine just for a tailpipe fire. Which is reasonable enough. Not that Boeing released the new procedure they probably just implemented it like pretty much anyone else did out of the box without any company customization. I wouldn't be surprised to see those steps reintegrated in your airline afterwards again.
@thesimguide8292
@thesimguide8292 Год назад
@@A330Driver The first version of the Boeing EFOG checklist had choose one fire is a Tailpipe Fire or fire is not a tailpipe fire. This was later removed by request and possible confusion that could lead to the Tail Pipe Fire checklist being actioned instead of the EFOG checklist. 737NG Driver, I believe your airline introduced the EFOG later than March 21, the first edition, which coincided with the time the Max (200) were being delivered.

great video ,just a quick one but as its an on ground emergency would you not set parking brake ,selects flaps 40 and notify ATC and then identify the problem and then go in to the new memory items for the engine fire on the ground ?cheers
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Год назад
Hi David, that is correct. The sequence kind of overlaps when carrying this procedure out. When the fire warning happens the captain would stop the aircraft, set the parking brake and advise the cabin immediately. At the same time the FO will select flaps 40 once the brake is set and advise ATC. Then the memory items are started. In this video my intention was to show the memory items in action. If I combined it with the on ground emergency procedure I believed it might confuse people and therefore I did not include that in this video.

@@A330Driver Flap lever 40 and Parking brake is company specific following an RTO. Boeing says consider not setting parking brake unless an evacuation is needed. In the EFOG and Evacuation checklist has set parking brake as the first and second item, respectively. Setting Flaps 40 before calling for the Evacuation checklist is a good procedure from your company because it takes away the possible delay before placing the engine start levers to cutoff and deciding to wait until the flaps have reached 40.
