Bohemian Rhapsody Queen played by Bert van den Brink on the Verschueren organ in "het orgelpark Amsterdam" june first 2013 at the presentation concert of Bert van den Brink's cd "BLOWING" www.bertvandenbrink.com
@@larrymagee8758 Freddie's BR was _symphonic_ in its structure, so it lends itself readily to more than one treatment, from Spanish guitar, to a full orchestra.
I just posted that exact comment on FB ( the first half of it ). Before reading the comment section here. Maybe there is some telepathy going on here! lol. I hope we have our wish granted.
I'm a 55year-old bloke and not usually emotional and I know this is going to sound pathetic, but this made me cry, it's so damn beautiful; what a wonderful interpretation of a classic rock song.
It's a completely different instrument -- you have no sustain pedal, have to operate 2+ manuals at any given time, handle stops and other mechanical eccentricities (swell, etc.), plus maintain a bass with your feet. It's an incredibly majestic instrument, but it requires tons of practice even for a seasoned pianist.
There really is no comparing the two insruments. Lots more split attention with organ having to change stops, consoles, foot work, but no depth of touch or sustain to contend with. For fancy foot work see flight of the bumblebee on pedals.
To my opinion the people here who don't like this performance are narrow in their views. As a child I played church organ for 10 years, then I started to learn blues guitar, rock 'n' roll, later I studied jazz guitar. Bert van den Brink is a great (jazz) musician! To all the people here I wanna say: don't judge, just listen and enjoy all the music there is: from classical music to hard rock!
He didn't say at age 10, he said for 10 years. Still, not really that outrageous: There are a lot of churches here, and most of them have organs. Bigger church = bigger, more elaborate organ of course, but many small village churches have organs. If a 10 year old expressed a lot of interest in organs, and could actually play it decently, I'm sure he could access somehow. It's not like they see a lot of use, especially in smaller churches, so I'm sure whoever is responsible for upkeep for the organ/church would be delighted to see some 'fresh blood' showing interest in these beautiful instruments.
@@dopplerfox Not that difficult, actually. AFAIR, I was about 5 when I sat on the bench of the organ in First Baptist Church in Bryan Texas. The beginning of a lifelong affair with the organ. Google Hector Olivera and you will see what a 5 year old with TALENT can accomplish. And, by the way, there's really no reason for profanity here.
OUTSTANDING! I am a classically trained organist and conductor and really love the classic organ literature. I also Love Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. To combine the two is sheer genius. This is the kind of thing that will attract young people to the organ again, its versatility. Thanks Bert. This was a great way to start the morning.
Charles, do you know anyone who produces albums using contemporary music on the organ? I assume you have to figure out how to play contemporary music on the organ yourself b/c it is not readily available on sheet music?
I doubt many young people will identify with Queen hits of 30-35 years ago. Perhaps people in their 40's perhaps,. Contemporary youth culture is light years away from this.
Charles Owings Anytime i hear a song that i love i instantly search for a version played on the organ... The most beautiful and powerful of instruments.
***** Speak for yourself, I'm 27 and have loved Queen since high school. I know several high schoolers that listen to the works of Queen, Zeppelin, etc.
I've watched this many times. One of the most incredible renditions of this song ever played. And it shows that pipe organs made with wood and using bellows were doing things that people thought were only possible once synthesisers came along. The variety, majesty and power of this instrument is bewildering. And for a blind musician to master this beast to such a level is yet another testament to one of my deepest held beliefs: Music is the nearest thing to real magic in this world. Bert van den Brink is a true magician.
MASTERFUL selection of stops and playing...just WOW. And sorry to admit...I got misty eyed at the deep inner beauty of the music.Bert van den Brink allows his pure soul to be revealed through his exquisite playing.
Bert van den Brink , You really touched my heart so much so that I was crying and laughing at the same time with the sheer brilliance and joy of seeing and hearing you play , thank you so much you are amazing.
I miss Freddie's earthling humanoidness very much! I saw queen twice and partied with Freddie at an after hours club in 1982. Freddie is one of my spirit guides and he is very happy with his tribute!!
Bert van den Brink, You are truly a force of courage and determination, thank you so much, I almost cried , inspirational and expertly played , does anyone out there know how I can buy his music please ?
I think this song IS holy for those devoted to rock n roll. There have been rock operas in the past, but Bohemian is a rock hymn! It should be played in church, rightfully so. It is a wonder the organist can keep up with the song. It's very complicated. A wonderful performance!
He kinda reminds me of neil patrick harris as count olaf in a series of unfortunate events, nonetheless an amazing interpretation of the song and the feelings he played with, also kudos to him for playing even when blind because i find it amazing how some people who have a small health issue, disability or nothing at all find excuses for things they have a hard time doing or give up easily (im not saying everyone does) but then people like him who plays the organ flawlessly despite his disability is just amazing my respects to him
He is not looking at his hands, he is not watching his feet. He is FEELING, feeling the music, and letting it take him, and dictate how he interprets and plays. This must surely be a spiritual experience for both the artist who is being carried along by the music, and those in attendance who are being taken along on a journey into their own souls and exploring their own emotions. I am a rock man, but I love piano and am exploring the pipe organ. This is a journey I embarked on about a year ago, it is simply amazing.
As much as I don't agree with religion, I have to say, it's good that human believed in it, so that such beautiful monuments and instruments were built
Spi Rale Pipe organs didn't originally come from religion, they were first used as a 'party instrument' for the rich people more than 2000 years ago in the Roman empire. The church is what inspired organ builders to always take it to new extremes of course. But it doesn't need the connection to religion, a lot of big concert halls are equipped with an organ, I myself am an atheistic organ builder. The instrument is just fascinating
Allthough 'Orgelpark' (Organ park) is housed in a former church, this location near the Vondelpark in Amsterdam is ment as a concert hall for organ music, void of religious context. Of course much clasic music is inspired by religion. With the Organ park one does not have to visit a church to enjoy (old and contemporary) classic music centered around the organ.
You know organs weren't originally made to be used for church they where just incorpated in to cotholasism and the church in the late 18 hundreds Because before they didn't have the technology and the church doesn't at rock this has nothing to do with the church it's just an organ for gosh darn sake
I think that the best part about this is that you can see just how excited the organist gets as he approachds the rock part of the song. He's just like "Heck yea, lets do this!"
Ich bedanke mich und verneige vor diesem außergewöhnlichen Oegelspieler. Kann nicht mehr zählen, wie oft ich diese Nummer nun schon abgespielt habe. So beeindruckend!🤗🤗🤗🤗
This performance is a major source of inspiration for me. Bert, you are amazing. To think about how you play so wonderfully and yet you can't see. I always seem to tear up at the end of the song. You are truly a master of the keyboard. Keep up the wonderful performances and may God bless you!
A lovely rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. That is a fantastic organ. Bert demonstrates that not only church or classical music can be played on a pipe organ. Simply wonderful.
Right? Im listening this on my headphones on a bus but I still have to mouth every word and I think my head nodding makes the driver think im about to have a seizure 🤣
My, my, Bert! Every now and then I go back and watch this video and every time it moves me. It's great to see your expressions as you play. You can see the love you have for music! Thank you Bert!
Je kan het 100 keer luisteren.. Het blijft geweldiggggg.Echt zo zo zo knap gedaan, complimenten!!!.Ook de beleving van Bert met het orgel is echt 1 groot feest!!!
Magnificent! I listened to this a year ago and commented that It was sheer enjoyment! I just listened again and this time it made me cry... Freddie wrote this fine classical music, and this gifted organist tapped into the soul of this great piece. It is was a very moving and brilliant performance.
Gregg Anderson I commented in 2013 or 2014, three or four years ago, when I was in eighth grade, I think. I still haven't found my comment after a couple hours of scrolling slowly, but I'm sure it's here :) I agree, this is a wonderful performance.
I have watched this so many times and still get the chills, it's absolutely beautiful and the look of joy on his face while he is playing is wonderful.
Very enlightening to see that three people were required to operate this infernal device, and one had to be a tap dancer. Though I make light, it was an impressive performance.
I love music played on the organ , this has to be the best ever a masterpiece by Freddie , played as it should be with panache and the maestro interpreted with flair and Freddie would have loved this version , good one !
This rendition is amazing!!! I love Queen and I love the organ so to hear this was perfect. So much practice has gone into this - well done and thank you for playing 😊
This really sounds hellfire, and it did go into me! The emotions in the lyrics of the original song can be felt in the way he plays, and what was in his mind during this performance must be priceless.
