Good advice Will. The only time we boil is when we're melting snow. It's usually clean, and it's being heated anyway. Otherwise it's drops for clean looking water, or the Sawyer (or both) for sketchy water.

Very true, you always have to evaluate the water source & utilize the best methods you have available to you. Thanks Carley!

You covered this really well! I think one of the disadvantages this has to other methods is the time and sometimes work. If you don't have a stove, you have have to build a fire and get it hot enough, and keep it hot enough to get the water to a boil. And then once it's at a boil you then have to cool it down if your going to transport it. Personally why it's not my favorite method. I weirdly talked about it a few months back in an episode of my podcast. But like you said, it's easy, you don't need anything special, and can be done almost anywhere.

Good point Nate! Ultimately I see this as a method for either when you’re somewhere stationary and able to boil larger quantities at a time, or more as an emergency backup. Not the most convenient, but it works!

It's why I like having it as a back up. if one of the other methods fails. I can always apply the heat.

Have you ever tried out a WAPI? It’s for pasteurization of water.
