You will need the following:
1. A lot of patience
2. A good solder gun
3. Some shrink tubing
4. Some 16, 18 and 20 awg wires
5. PWM device
6. Spare brake/turning signal light connectors - make sure they come with pins: P/N 33481-0401 and 33471-0401
7. Spare tail light connectors (very hard to find, in fact took me a couple of weeks to identify them and another few weeks to get them): P/N 6098-7779 and 6098-8435
8. Trim removal tools
9. Some wire ties
10. Foam tape (to wrap the PWM device for protection)
11. Some other common tools

It's unacceptable to me that GM didn't do this set-up from the factory. Very nice work!

In principle I like what you have created. Others have similar ideas. But I am concerned about any of these modifications. They all cause twice the OE designed current to be pulled from the Brake/Turn circuit to light an additional lamp. I have looked at the Bolt circuitry. The current is supplied by the Body Control Module. There is no way of knowing whether this may cause eventual damage to this computer module. It is hundreds of dollars for a replacement. I would want a GM engineer to look over these mods before I proceed. I'm advising viewers to keep this in mind when considering these changes. It may be perfectly fine, or very expensive.

GM made the mistake of not using international amber on the turn signals.

This is perfect, exactly what i've been thinking about getting done to my Bolt EUV. but i don't want to mess things up. is there a way to get this done. I live in Virginia, is there a place where i can take it to and have this done. thanks

Thanks so much for sharing. Can you please include Amazon links to similar products you used?

I found the parts I used on Aliexpress. But the ones I received had broken wires on all connectors so I wouldn’t recommend the store. Sorry you will have to try your own source…

Are you planning on selling these as plug and play kits? Do you have links to the wiring connectors?

Sorry no plan to sell parts - this is just a hobby. The place I ordered my connectors from gave me quite some troubles so I wouldn’t recommend

What is the name of that connector?

Do you have any idea if this will work on the EV, or would the connectors be different?

That’s what I wanna know I want turn signals to be on the top lights so I have less chances of being read ended by someone driving too close or not paying attention

Ignore the few haters below. They're douchebags. Thanks for the vid. That was a lot of good effort in making your objective happen.

Can't this be done as part of adding trailer wiring?
@xnmaidongxi
@xnmaidongxi Год назад
It surely can and will be easier if you combine the two

Looked ok until you closed the hatch at the end. With the hatch lights being the original brightness it looks terrible, in my opinion. You may want to consider finding a way to dim them to match the dimmer outer lights. Also those holes you're running wires through if the metal is sharp it could potentially wear the wires down and cause as short. Finding a rubber or plastic grommet that fits the holes would be best. I heard you say you were going to use silicon caulking, that should work too. Thanks for sharing even if I didn't care for the outcome.

Thank you for the comment. I have the same feeling and is actually looking for a way to add some light before dimming the hatch mount taillights - don’t want to decrease visibility of my car to others at night is the main concern. As for sharp corners I used a rubber tubing for protection

@Kaixin Baba I don't know how useful this will be but in the motorcycle world, kurakyn makes a run-turn-brake controller so you can change your single brightness turn signal only modules into running lights that also function as brake and turn signals. Pretty easy wiring and I think with some basic head scratching, it would be a brilliant way to fix the bolt taillights. You would get dual brightness out of the running lights and they would all be at the same level of illumination so as to eliminate confusion.

@@xnmaidongxi I've seen video where people I think use the same module for the hatch lights, tieing into the center brake light. That was just for tail/brake function though. no turn signal. To make the lights work as a turn signal too, I think you'd have to run a traveler wire up the pillar and through the ruber boot to the top of the hatch and down to the fixture.

I was shocked when I noticed they put blinkers on the bumper only. It made no sense to me and it was not visible nor safe. If you are standing close behind it at the intersection you cannot see it it wants to turn or go straight.

It has to do with federal law about where brake/turn signals can be on located on the rear of cars. Specifically, you can't put them on moveable panels (such as a tailgate/liftgate/hatchback) since if it were to fly open, one wouldn't be able to see if the vehicle is braking or indicating a turn. Since there were spots for lights due to various international requirements for rear fog lamps (in the US, they're usually filled in with reflectors), it was an easy swap to put the brake/turn signals there to maintain compliance. GM also wanted design parity between the EV and EUV and since the EV's hatchback has the pointy hatchback of death that makes standard turn/brake signals a no-go, so does the EUV. If you think those are silly reasons for why things are the way they are, I can't disagree. I think it, like a number of other car regulations, deserves to be revisited and revised, preferably with input and data from international sources.
