@@avl8059 - Oh, I was meaning “Bombshell” in and if its own right. Spielberg was looking to make a Broadway version of “Smash,” unless that’s changed. That would be cool if it did. In the meantime, looking forward to him doing Westside Story.
Before I start to explain my argument, I want to assure you that I am as obsessed with this show as any other fan. I sing the songs on the piano everyday, and follow along with this very video at the same time, I know all the parts from the sheet music, so it's nothing personal against the cast/crew of the show "SMASH" or "Bombshell". This is just from the perspective of a theatre performer, who understands the demands that come with performing a live show like "Bombshell" 8x/week. It'd be nice, for sure, but wouldn't be realistic, if they were going to stick with one Marilyn for all those energetic numbers for eight times a week, she'd burn out fast. Even for this concert, they had to divide the numbers between Megan and Kat, and while it was most likely because they shared the part of Marilyn, it wouldn't be feasible for one Marilyn to be able to belt and dance all those songs, if it were an actual stage show (which leads me to believe that it could most certainly be done as a movie musical, but I hate to digress). Even Ann Harada got to sing one of the upbeat songs, which was a nice surprise, but why do you think they'd invite her to sing if both Marilyns could handle the numbers themselves for the entire night? Her character wasn't even part of the main cast, and throughout both seasons, she has, what, two lines--so why would she get to sing a Marilyn number? Sure, you have to take quick costume changes into account, especially in the concert, but as Ivy pointed out in "The Bells and Whistles" episode, she's "in almost every scene and could really use a breather", which Tom doesn't even grant her. Tl;dr: Make "Bombshell" a movie musical (not to be mistaken with that other movie about, what, Fox News?) or cut a few of the up-tempo numbers, and give Marilyn that break in Act II.
As a huge theater nerd and occasionally a performer too.. no woman could do that show 8 times a week... it would DESTROY her voice... as much as I'd wanna see it on stage. It'd never make broadway where it can't perform day after day
@@ginnykang943 This was a one-night only performance of the songs from Bombshell to benefit the Actors Fund as performed by the cast of Smash. That’s what is was designed around. If Megan or Catherine sang most of the songs then the others wouldn’t be included. Ann is also a cast member from that show AND has performed on Broadway much like the others and it didn’t matter how many lines their characters had in the tv show. Broadway actors can certainly handle a full show like Bombshell if it existed. Actors have been doing more difficult shows for ages. The trouble is that Bombshell was designed for a tv show, not a real theatre. There’s got to be set and costume changes, a plot worked out that makes sense, and everything designed to flow freely instead of just vignettes like seen in this concert. They’ve been trying for years to get a stage version but, unlike the tv show, some musicals can take years and years to be created.
this concert makes me laugh because there is so many lyric muck ups, the way megan and kat walk out three times at the end, the deletion of at your feet, christians cigar breaking, and the cast sTILL KILLED IT! i love how broadway actors know how improvise SO well. it’s so entertaining and shows their real talent.
Christian Borle improvised the cigar lyric. "Can someone find (originally: light) my damn cigar". Little things that show the caliber of performer that he is. A big piece of proof is the fact that he won his 2nd tony the night before.
The way they all improvised so well despite the various muck ups is amazing. And Megan Hilty absolutely KILLED IT!! She really showed off her Broadway chops here big time, especially the way she flawlessly transitioned from "National Past Time" to "History is Made at Night" so smoothly as if you'd never know that she was just jumping around before belting out a ballad. I love her.
I was lucky enough to see her as galinda/glinda in wicked in the first appearance it had in Los Angeles (a month in one theater while it was on tour). And also saw her in the testing cast of 9 to 5 as dolly parton's character before it went to Broadway. And I can confirm she's incredible!!!
Incredible that years later we can hear "Let's Be Bad" in Some Like It Hot, written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman AND starring Christian Borle / J Harrison Ghee!
Jeremy is effing amazing at every frickin' thing! I also love Megan and Kat attempting to run out and take their bow at the wrong time like three times. lol
Thanks for posting. Smash was a favorite and so disappointed when the series was canceled. Wonderful cast. Remember when Anjelica Huston, John Huston's daughter, sang September Song- musical theater geeks may know that it was her grandfather, Walter Huston, who introduced that song on Broadway in early '40s in Knickerbocker Holiday by Kurt Weil. It was a special moment to have her sing that song to continue the legacy.
@@lilibetp I also love that movie. I'm so thankful for TCM or other platforms that make things that perhaps were before our time and we discover these gems. I had seen Treasure of the Sierra Madre at an art house theater. Walter played a grizzled prospector but I didn't know his earlier work that show his tremendous talent and range. I was also very moved when Anjelica sang that particular classic song.
1:52:42 I LOVE this recording and loved watching it live when it aired, but how is no one else commenting about how funny Megan and Katherine are during the curtain call with their false entrance... twice?! 🤣
"Hang the Moon" is so gorgeous - makes me bawl! Must sing this for my daughter but not sure I'd get through it! 1:43:03 hang the moon 😢"I know in the past that the lines were all wrong, and the music was never in tune - but the wish that I make is for just one more take..." That's how we tend to feel as parents! It's so tender and beautiful.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this, contributed to The Actors Fund for their brilliance in capturing and sharing this concert. SO much great content, everyone was brilliant, but honestly, whoever came up with Ann Harada doing "Never met a Wolf" deserves a raise!
Just rewatched Series 1 and totally love this wonderful cast reunion, sensitively woven with stories of Marilyn's life. Amazing. Everyone is so talented and at the top of their games.
This was a show before its time, these days this more musical type show is a hit and you see so many more of them around... it needed another season or two :-(
I still watch the TV series religiously 2-3 times a year, and this at least once. Thanks to everyone who organized this and made it happen. Tryng to figure out how to get the money to make it to Broadway later this year (or next). Pray for me! :-) Meanwhile, to the brilliant cast, know your work never fails to put a smile on my face!
Megan Hilty has the kind of voice they used to write entire shows around. She's so fortunate to have a signature song like Just Keep Mov'in the Line. That was easily the highlight of this concert. She just kills it.
Can I count the number of times I've listened to this incredible event over the past few weeks? Heck no. This has kept me sane s I trudged through an endlessly nit picky work project? The clear upside of working from home, no one else is driven insane by my obsessive looping of this show. Everlasting gratitude for the post! And yes, I support the Actors Fund!
My best song List ♡ 2:57 beginning of the concert 9:08 let me be your star 14:09 20th century fox mambo 21:12 national pastime 33:44 mr and mrs smith 37:35 dont say yes until ive finished talking 41:05 on lexington & 52nd st 1:38:54 let's be bad 1:50:08 don't forget me
I might have shed a tear to Donna McKechnie and Megan Hilty's interpretation of "Hang the Moon" I'm soglad I've found this concert, it is so amazing ! Smash is one of the best shows I ever got to watch
Thank you, that was truly awesome, I loved every moment of it and will hopefully replay this often to keep my spirits high during these awful times. I needed this tonight as a dear lifeline Carer who has been there every Friday for ages checking in and a one hour chat that made me feel like someone was listening and cared has tested positive for COVID 19 and is not doing great and I only found out today and I’m holding my breath for him and others like him around the world and music, shows like this bring a smile through these awful tough times.
I've been in love with this show since the beginning, never imagined I'd get the privilege of seeing this. THANK YOU UPLOADER! You've made my year! 🖤⭐🍸🍾👑💥🧚♂️🥂
Well I preferred Katherine McPhee's rendition of the songs, particularly "Don't forget me". The finale to Season 1 was one of the most moving, thrilling things I've ever seen. Season 2 lost its way unfortunately.
In my fantasy timeline season 2’s big arch was the two of them sharing the part and top billing. McPhee is Norma Jean while Hilty is Marilyn. This conflict would drive the main plot. Ugh, I’m still mad about the second season.
I Saw the tv shows years ago… I some moments it almost made me cry, it was so sweet, and powerful at the same moment; the magic of making a show inside a show, while living sparkles of the life of Marylin . The state of the art. And, oh….Almost feeling the need to embrace and protect the two Marylins. And, oh…Almost loving Debra 😀❤️
also did anyone notice that the end of “just keep moving the line” the belt was taken down a bit? go megan for still making it SLAP even if she couldn’t belt that high for whatever reason
I would spend a whole day writing up paragraphs singing my praises of everyone who performed but god do I not have that kind of perseverance. My personal favorites were, of course, megan hilty’s let’s be bad and they just keep moving the line, leslie odom jr’s AMAZING let’s start tomorrow tonight (seriously the song brings me such joy), christian borle’s super fun don’t say yes until I finish talking, and brian d’arcy’s the right regrets. Especially that last one- There’s something so moving about his rendition of it. Like I’m nearing tears whenever I hear it.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is my favorite I think. It is so sweet BUT SO HEARTBREAKING (I see you Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, I know what you're doing here). That is all she wanted: a white picket fence and a husband and family. And she was just too famous and the men who were with her were there for all the wrong reasons. And she died broken and alone. 😩
I'm such a HUGE fan of "Bombshell", and have watched a few different bootleg videos of this production. So, I am pickled tink they decided to release the official video. There are a few notable performances throughout the concert. BUT, the biggest showstopper was Jeremy Jordan's "Cut, Print, Moving On", and followed by Megan Hillty's "Moving The Line" & Will Chase's "Lexington And 52nd Street". My only complaint about Will, was his haircut. I know it may have been stylish, but that Dippity Do was a Dippity Don't! But, as much as I love "Secondhand White Baby Grand" by Megan Hillty, it was Donna McKechnie singing "Hang The Moon" that tore me up. Even the way Megan walked her off stage was quite moving. But, again, Jeremy Jordan gets the award for best performance.
This is best musical drama to me. I am still waiting for season 3 of this drama. And seasons 1 and 2 are also expected to be seen on streaming services. Thanks for uploading this video :D 시즌 3 간절히 기다립니다..
This was AMAZING! I actually have never watched Smash, but now I'll have to go find it and watch the series. I'm obsessed with musicals. This concert was Fantastic! Seeing some other comments on here, I also wouldn't mind them turning Bombshell into a musical with multiple Marilyns. It worked well in concert.
@@lilibetp That’s true. I also feel like Megan injects a lot of drama into her vocals, which is also very beautiful. Their singing styles are so different, but in such amazing ways.
@@LB-ih7hn I would have loved for them to share the part. Kathryn playing the young eager newly arrived, Megan playing slightly older and struggling, wishing to try more serious roles.
unfortunately she's also a republican who donated to institutions against lgbt+ rights despite pretending to love the lgbt+ community and owing her career to "the gays" so,,, not a very good person
Okay, did anyone else die laughing at Megan and Katharine almost going out for the bows at the wrong time a couple of times? They seemed like actual friends that were like... oops, and oops again. It was great.
LOVE this! LOVE Smash! Hilty and McPhee are fire! And Kentucky boy Will Chase never disappoints! (Go Wildcats!) I could watch this over and over again!
i watched this for the first time after id just started the show and hadn't put too much thought into it. im about to rewatch it only a couple months later, knowing every lyric and melody like i wrote them 😭
Krysta Rodriguez is actually in my city right now in a production of “Cabaret” as Sally. And meeting her I knew about things like “Addams Family Musical” and “First Date” but I haven’t seen smash yet and had no clue she was in it. She actually comes to my job pretty much daily for lunch so I’ll have to educate myself before her last show 😅
She also did an amazing trio show at 54 Below with Andy Mientus and Jeremy Jordan called This Will Be Our Year that had a lot of the songs from SMASH, plus some other tunes. It's from 2015 when she was in chemotherapy, so she was bald and wore a fabulous wig for the performance. The three of them sound so great together and just look so freaking adorable through the whole thing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RuzljkhkvLU.html
