Free Western Series: Bonanza - Episode 134 - Little Man... Ten Feet Tall - An Italian immigrant and his son seek a new life after fleeing violence in their home country.
Little Man... Ten Feet Tall
Director: Lewis Allen
Writers: Eric Norden (teleplay), Eric Norden (story)
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 26 May 1963 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
Storyline:
"Nick Biancci and his son come to town seeking their fortune in a new country after leaving Italy. Nick has renounced any kind of fighting, after fleeing violence in his native Napoli. He works at odd jobs, saving money to help his son pursue his talent as a classical guitarist. Ben hires Nick as a cook at the Ponderosa. Unfortunately, two men learn that Nick has savings, and try to beat him into revealing where the money is. When they threaten his son as well, Nick must make a tough decision in order to protect his son and his son's future." Written by Charles Delacroix on IMDb.com
Reviews:
"The Ponderosa is in short supply of a cook with Hop Sing out of action. But rather serendipitously Ross Martin over from Italy and his young son Michael Davis get themselves rescued by Dan Blocker and the Ponderosa is getting some Italian cuisine.
They are traveling east to New York where young Davis is slated to study music. But the kid wants to be a cowboy and kind of looks up to Hoss as most of the human race does.
Hoss takes a leaf from his father's book on guidance for young people. A nice story indeed." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com
"Ross Martin guests as an Italian immigrant and single father making his way from San Francisco to New York City in order to finance his young son's gift for the classical guitar; the two stop off in Virginia City to find temporary work and raise the ire of a couple of roughnecks who seem to have no course of business other than being bullies. This was a common thread in the "Bonanza" stories: innocents challenged by lawless brutes, with the Cartwrights involved for moral (and sometimes financial and physical) support. Here, it's Hoss and Adam who bring the father and son back to the ranch to cook and entertain (seems Hop Sing is away visiting a sick family member), but the villains aren't far behind. Martin's Italian accent is heavy on the Prego Prego, while Michael Davis is curiously out-of-place playing his son (a year later, Davis turned up in Disney's "The Moon-Spinners" as a Greek kid, again having trouble with his English). The gist of this plot, that you shouldn't mess with cowards because everyone's got a fighter underneath, is a bit askew, but the hero-worship sub-plot between Davis and Dan Blocker's Hoss had intriguing possibilities not explored here (and couldn't have been, at least not with psychological depth). A middling episode in the series, which once again puts the focus on select Cartwrights, leaving Michael Landon's Little Joe in the background." Written by moonspinner55 on IMDb.com

@W N. YOU'RE WRONG!! You just aren't looking in the right places. There are plenty of men like Hoss Cartwright in real life. If you go to a genuine Independent Baptist church where the pastor preaches and believes that the 1611 King James Authorized Version of the Holy Bible is inerrant and infallible, then you WILL find that most, if not all, of the men are as gentle and kind as Hoss Cartwright.

He played a famous art critic who murdered his very wealthy uncle hoping to receive a lot of money from his uncle's will. When his uncle left the majority of his money to his former wife, then Ross Martin's character tried to frame his aunt so that he could still get the money. Shows like Seinfeld, Friends and Curb Your Enthusiasm have so horribly damaged and perverted the quality of Entertainment that NOW we perceive being sarcastic, horrible and pretentiously superior to everyone as somehow amusing. .... Some of the Bonanza episodes reference real historical people but it seems like this one is fictional. I couldn't find anything on any famous guitar player named Mario Bianchi.

To hate something like violence simply means one doesn't understand where it is useful, violence does have its usefulness. Almost every sport is some form of violence, even making love so-called is a form of violence. Communication is a form of violence upon the ego, especially when we must confront our own ignorances. The universe used violence to create every planet we now observe as beautiful and want to travel and speculate our imagination about. Another beautiful episode of Bonanza that in the creative script another happy result.

I really really like Denver Pyle. I love the role he plays in The Andy Griffin Show. Mario is a beautiful little boy in the show also. I watched Bonanza movie a few weeks ago in a similar situation. However, a Mexican man who was the father of a little Mexican boy was shot and killed without any provocation whatsoever. The killer was just plain mean and killed him just because he could. The Cartwright’s took care him until the killer was arrested and hanged. Unfortunately, every body was so scared of him and his two other equally mean brothers that he was never hanged. The only punishment he received was having all of his hair shaved off because he was so proud of his hair. As far as I was concerned that was a very unsatisfactory ending. Although it was just a made up movie, I think that it would have made him so mad that he would have murdered some people. 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

Since Nick and Mario came to the US from Italy, wouldn't they have landed on the east coast...where NY is? Even if they came through New Orleans, going through Nevada would be way out of the way. Must be TV logic :)

Ben was a prospector. He hit the BONANZA in silver! The mines on the ponderosa land were mentioned several times. They were dried out when little Joe was born.
